NFLPA elects David White to serve as interim executive director after Lloyd Howell's resignation

Yahoo20 hours ago
The NFLPA has finally elected an interim replacement for Lloyd Howell.
The union announced late on Sunday night that it had elected David White to serve as the new interim executive director. White will replace Howell, who resigned last month amid a scandal that rocked the union.
White was a finalist for the role in 2023. He is the former national executive director and chief negotiator of the Screen Actors Guild. He's also the CEO of 3CG, and is the board chair of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.
'I am grateful to the NFLPA's player leadership for entrusting me with the privilege and responsibility to guide their union as interim executive director,' White said in a statement. 'It's a duty I do not take lightly, and I'm committed to re-establishing trust and ensuring the union is serving its members best.
'I look forward to working with the entire NFLPA team to prospect players' health and safety, secure their financial well-being and further strengthen their voice to shape their futures.'

Browns K Dustin Hopkins looking to rebound in 2025 season

Browns K Dustin Hopkins looking to rebound in 2025 season originally appeared on The Sporting News During the 2022 (L.A. Chargers) and 2023 (Cleveland Browns) seasons, Dustin Hopkins was nearly perfect with a make percentage over 90%. During the 2023 Browns season, Hopkins made 8 of 10 on kicks over 50 yards and became a lethal weapon. Then during the 2024 offseason, he signed a three-year extension worth $15.9 million, and it all went downhill. Last year, Hopkins only made 66.7% of his kicks, which included only four of eight from 50-plus and three missed extra points. Even though last season there were talks about cutting him, he appears to be getting back to form as he kicked a game-winner in practice on Monday. We don't usually hear a ton on kickers out of camp, but seeing him get confidence early should only help his season get off to a better start than last year. Hopkins will be dealing with a short fuse by fans, and a few costly kicks missed at the beginning of the season could easily cost him his job.
