Red Sox's Jarren Duran Drawing Trade Interest From Padres

Red Sox's Jarren Duran Drawing Trade Interest From Padres originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Boston Red Sox aren't out of the playoff hunt yet, but rumors are swirling around some of their players being available for trade. The latest rumor has one of the team's best players drawing interest from a National League West team in dire need of outfield help.

According to a report from Dennis Lin of The Athletic, the San Diego Padres have expressed interest in trading for Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran. This wouldn't be the first time that the Padres were interested in Duran, either.
Ahead of the 2024 season, the Padres were reportedly interested in the Red Sox outfielder. Now, a year later, the Padres are interested in Duran once again.
For the Red Sox, Duran could be viewed as expendable with number one overall prospect Roman Anthony waiting in the Minor Leagues. Trading Duran would open a spot for Anthony, and would make the roster moves necessary to bring Anthony up a lot easier.
On the Padres' side of things, they need a left fielder badly. After Gavin Sheets suffered multiple injuries crashing into the left-field wall, the need in left field became even more apparent.

The Padres already were looking for left-field help before the Sheets injury, and now it's one of the most glaring holes on a contending team around baseball.

Duran would fit the Padres' need perfectly. With the Red Sox having the top prospect in baseball waiting for a spot to open up, the move would make sense for both parties.
However, moving off Duran would be a huge decision for the Red Sox, and the Padres might not have the ammo to acquire him. Duran is under team control through 2028 and is on a cheap deal for just $3.85 million in 2025.
His contract, control, and age at 28 years old, combined with his talent, make Duran a valuable asset. To acquire him, the Padres would need to offload multiple top prospects, something they may not be willing to do after already investing so many prospects in win-now deals over recent years.
Whether the Padres make a strong offer or not, the Red Sox have been receiving interest in Duran. With Anthony sitting in the Minor Leagues, a trade of Duran does make room for Anthony on the Major League roster.

13 and Done: Nashville Superspeedway Breaks NASCAR Xfinity's Historic Viewership Run

13 and Done: Nashville Superspeedway Breaks NASCAR Xfinity's Historic Viewership Run originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The NASCAR Xfinity Series was on fire this year. For thirteen straight races, over a million people tuned in to watch every single event. That's the best streak the series has had in almost a decade and it showed just how much fans love what they're seeing on The CW. Advertisement But all good things come to an end. The Tennessee Lottery 250 at Nashville brought in 988,000 viewers, falling just short of that magic million mark. Still, it was the most-watched Xfinity race at Nashville since they started racing there again back in 2021. Here's the thing though – the numbers are still pretty amazing. Those first thirteen races averaged 1.176 million viewers, which is 20% higher than the same time last year. Back then, they were only getting about 978,000 viewers per race on average. NASCAR Xfinity Series drivers race at Nashville Nelles / The Tennessean / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images What's really helping is that The CW puts these races on free-to-air coverage instead of cable broadcast. More people can watch without paying extra and that's making a huge difference. It's the first time in the series' history that every race is free to watch. Advertisement Even with the streak ending, the Nashville numbers showed continued growth. The 988,000 viewers represented a 29% increase over the fourteenth race of 2024 at Sonoma Raceway, indicating that while the milestone run concluded, overall viewership remains robust and well above last year's pace. So yeah, the streak is over at thirteen races. But the bigger story here is that more people are watching NASCAR Xfinity than ever before and that's pretty exciting for the sport. LeBron James Makes Strong Alex Caruso Statement Before NBA Finals

LeBron James Makes Strong Alex Caruso Statement Before NBA Finals originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The NBA finals tip off Thursday night from Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, where the hometown Thunder host the Indiana Pacers. It's a winner-take-all, best-of-seven series and both teams are chasing their first-ever NBA championship. Advertisement With a break after the conclusion of the Western and Eastern Conference finals, analysts and fans had time to dissect every matchup. Over a full series, the strategies and adjustments will be fascinating to watch. It seems every NBA finals features a wildcard who makes a game-changing impact. For Oklahoma City, that player might be someone who's already been there and done that. On the latest episode of the "Mind the Game" podcast, LeBron James made a strong statement about his former teammate, Alex Caruso. James, joined by Steve Nash, praised Caruso's versatile defensive abilities. 'Then they come off the bench with one of my favorite teammates of all time in Alex Caruso.' Advertisement When Nash chimed in and called Caruso a 'DOG,' LeBron doubled down. 'He's like the ultimate Swiss Army knife. We've seen him guard Giannis, the Joker, ANT, Julius Randle, Jamal Murray, all in this postseason.' "You check the plus/minus after the game, and AC might have five points, three rebounds, two assists and his plus/minus will be a [expletive] 17.' James added. Oklahoma City Thunder guard Alex Caruso (9). Alonzo Adams/Imagn Images Later in the episode, James recalled one of his favorite plays from Oklahoma City's run to the finals. "AC was guarding the ball on the left wing, I think it was Anthony Edwards. Edwards got to the middle, which you try to avoid, but he's so dynamic, it's going to happen. After getting some help at the nail, AC still recovered to contest the corner 3.' James said. Advertisement 'Instead of just standing and watching after the help, he sprinted to the corner and contested the shot. That kind of hustle affects outcomes. With that kind of effort, they're going to keep winning.' Caruso entered the NBA undrafted in 2016 and eventually earned a spot on the 2020 championship Lakers alongside James. He won the NBA Hustle Award in 2024, made the NBA All-Defensive First Team in 2023, and the second team last season. In the 2024–25 season, Caruso played 54 games and averaged 7.1 points per game.
