Drone deployed after storm frees cow set for Aidiladha sacrifice
KOTA BARU: A trader has turned to modern technology in a race against time to find a missing cow meant for sacrifice during tomorrow's Hari Raya Aidiladha. Mohammad Alwi, 35, has been using a drone to scour the surrounding area near his home here after a cow belonging to his father, valued at about RM5,000, went missing during a thunderstorm on Wednesday. He said the cow, which had been prepared for korban tomorrow, broke free from its tether during heavy rain and strong winds, and has not been seen since. "I've been searching around my village and nearby areas since yesterday, but there's still no sign of it," he said when met at his home today. Determined not to give up, Mohammad deployed his drone – equipment he has been using since early this year to monitor and retrieve his livestock whenever they wander off. "This isn't the first time I've used a drone to find my cows. "Usually, I'm able to track them down within hours. But this time, it's been more difficult, maybe because of the weather," he added. Mohammad, who has been involved in small-scale cattle farming in addition to running a business in Gua Musang, said he was especially disheartened as the cow had been reserved for a korban ceremony by his father's family. "I just hope I can find it in time. This isn't just about money – it's about fulfilling a religious duty. Many people are relying on this," he said. Despite the setback, Mohammad remains optimistic and continues his search, drone in hand, hoping the animal will turn up before the important festival begins tomorrow.
