Chelsea Have £10M Transfer Decision in Efforts to Sign Arsenal Target With PSG Clause
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Leipzig agreed to an €80 million deal for Simons, with €55 million paid upfront. The Dutch midfielder is under contract through June 2027, and PSG included a sell-on clause to ensure they get a cut of any future transfer fee.
That approach is already paying dividends. Adam Crafton of The Athletic says PSG recently received €17 million (£15 million) from Hugo Ekitiké's move to Liverpool thanks to a similar clause.
Romano also pointed out that Chelsea are making solid progress in personal terms talks. Simons is reportedly open to the move and interested in joining the Premier League club, though discussions are still ongoing.

'In that event, Leipzig already have their sights set on a successor in Liverpool's Harvey Elliott. Head of global football, Jürgen Klopp, who once coached him in Liverpool, is expected to assist in this endeavour. He is Leipzig's secret weapon and is expected to persuade Elliott to join the project.'
Meanwhile, TalkSPORT recently revealed that Chelsea are close to reaching an agreement on personal terms. Simons is still holding talks with other clubs, including Arsenal, who remain strongly interested.

Concord Rangers suffer away defeat at Tilbury
Concord Rangers' losing start to the 2025/26 season continued with a 2-0 defeat at Tilbury. Both sides were reduced to ten men with former Beach Boy Jimmy Wallace getting sent off against his former club for a second bookable offence in the first half for Tilbury, before Chelmsford City loanee Kai Torres also saw red for Concord for an elbow in the second half. Concord were on top for large periods and had the better chances, but they were the masters of their own downfall, conceding twice in the space of a minute with substitutes Nathan Best and Kieran Jones scoring near identical goals in quick succession to earn Tilbury a first three points of the campaign. Concord had the first chance of the game with Bobby Kelman getting in behind, but his lobbed attempt went way off target. After 20 minutes, a crucial goal-line clearance was required from Tilbury to stop the visitors from opening the scoring. Sherquan Toussaint played the ball down the line for Khris Oti, whose cross was played back to Toussaint and his shot was blocked on the line by Luke Reeve - which, despite the appeals of the Concord players, was not given as a handball from the Dockers defender by the referee. Just past the half hour, Concord would have a key referee decision go in their favour with the home side being reduced to ten men. After Rangers had cleared an Oli Spooner free kick, the Beach Boys looked to break on the counter-attack with Oti, but he was brought down by a sliding challenge from behind by former Concord man Wallace, who was given his second yellow card of the evening. Concord almost made the man advantage count on the stroke of half time, with Sammy Collins' side being frustrated by another goal-line intervention. Torres teed up Kelman with a disguised pass, and he beat Harry Fairs to the ball, poking it across to Harrison Day whose back heel was stabbed off the line by Spooner. The second half was inactive until 20 minutes from time when Concord were also reduced to ten men. After Torres and a Tilbury player tussled for the ball following the awarding of a free kick, the Concord full back lashed out with an elbow to the face that resulted in him becoming the second player of the evening to receive an early bath. This was also the second red card that Rangers have received this season, with Ricky Modeste too being sent off in an FA Cup tie against Harpenden Town earlier this month. Despite this setback, it was Concord who had the next couple of chances with Toussaint sending a drilled shot agonisingly wide of the far corner and Day's mistimed header from Liam Jones' free kick sailing over. These missed chances would prove costly for Concord, with Tilbury striking two quick-fire goals to steal the three points. Straight after coming off the bench, Best was played in behind and the striker slid the ball beneath Concord 'keeper Jacob Marsden and in with his first touch of the game. The Dockers then doubled their lead straight after kick-off, with Concord giving away possession cheaply straight to Jones, who ran through on goal and beat Marsden. This being the second season in a row in which the midfielder had scored against Concord, having also been on target in the Dockers' 2-0 win against the Beach Boys at Chadfields in January. A first win of the campaign sees Tilbury move up to eighth with Marc Harrison's team now eight games unbeaten at home, a record that stretches back to February. A second loss of the season for Concord means they are now winless in ten games in all competitions, with their last victory coming back in March.

Texans' Brevin Jordan suffers another season-ending injury
HOUSTON (AP) — Houston Texans tight end Brevin Jordan was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, marking the second straight year he's sustained a season-ending injury. The team didn't specify his injury, but he appeared to injure his lower leg or knee in training camp Monday. This injury comes after he tore an ACL in Week 2 last season. 'He went down with a devastating injury,' coach DeMeco Ryans said. 'It's really rough for a guy that just bounced back from a major injury. So, it's tough on Brevin right now and tough on our entire team.' Jordan was a fifth-round pick in the 2021 draft. Nelson Deossa's jump from Mexican club Monterrey to Spanish team Real Betis isn't quite the window's blockbuster signing. It does make a case for being the most interesting, though. Yesterday, Betis unveiled the Colombian midfielder, who officially joined on August 4. While some reports have the price slightly lower, ESPN says the transfer sum (Spanish) was approximately €14.5 million ($17 million), making him the third-largest sale ever from Liga MX. He's also among the top ten most expensive acquisitions made by Betis, which broke the transfer world record to sign Denilson back in 1998. Deossa's contract runs until 2030. On their own, these are extraneous details when you consider that, just six years ago, Deossa had long odds of becoming a professional soccer player in the first place, let alone playing at a strong team in one of Europe's elite leagues. Los Verdiblancos' arrival was working alongside his father in the mines near his small hometown of Marmato. Stepping out from the underground darkness, the game was an outlet rather than an obvious career pathway. 'I was studying and working,' he once told the television channel at Pachuca, where he used to play, adding. 'I saw myself frustrated a lot of the time, but I didn't quit the dream (soccer) and made the most of the opportunities I had.' If the mines didn't bring gold, soccer would in the end, and his first opportunity to star competitively in Spain could come on Monday, when Betis takes on promoted Elche. Deossa Brings Rawness But Vigor To La Liga Depending on how you look at it, Deossa arrived with a handicap, first at Atlético Huila before moving to Pachuca and Monterrey via loans, including Estudiantes in Argentina. In a fiercely competitive business, he missed out on a formal soccer education, further disrupted by the pandemic. And he's now settling into a country where the soccer education yields such fine players. However, it's made Deossa a unique talent. 'With little schooling. With a lot of heart, intuition, and fortitude,' is how a recent El Mundo article puts it (Spanish). Indeed, watching Deossa at his last club, Monterrey, he's direct, running back and forth, and with a rocket of a shot. Club World Cup viewers may remember the South American receiving the ball, skipping past an opponent, and thwacking in a long-range goal against Urawa Reds in June. He scored seven in 29 matches for Rayados. It will be fascinating to see how Deossa adapts to, or changes the rhythm, at coach Manuel Pellegrini's Betis, which is looking to build on a promising 2024/25 season, despite losing the Conference League final to Chelsea. Elsewhere in midfield, Betis has lost a valuable cog in USMNT player Johnny Cardoso to Atlético Madrid, is without Isco due to a serious injury, and knows holding onto Manchester United loanee Antony will be tough. Rodrigo Riquelme has come in from Atleti. Coincidentally, regarding Deossa, the origins of soccer in Spain go back to the mines. In and around Huelva, part of the Andalusia region, like Sevilla-based Betis, the first informal kickarounds took place roughly 150 years ago. Drawn to Los Verdiblanos after speaking with colleagues Sergio Canales and Cucho Hernández, both familiar with the team, his first kicks are just around the corner. Bringing a different background and all-action style to the team, Deossa is a La Liga addition worth following.
