Another jawan of Bihar martyred in J&K
An Army jawan from Siwan, Ram Babu Kumar Singh (26), became the second personnel of Bihar to succumb to battle injuries in the Jammu and Kashmir on May 12.
Ram Babu, who hails from Vasilpur village (Barharia block), married just five months ago, was grievously injured during Operation Sindoor. He was rushed to hospital for medical treatment where he succumbed to the injuries late on Monday. He was posted to the Nagrotta in 16 Corps wed with Anjali on December 10, 2024. His wife is currently staying at her mother's house in Dhanbad (Jharkhand) and is said to be pregnant. Ram Babu left Siwan after post marriage in the second week of March 2025. He was joined Indian Army in 2017 and posted with the Army Aviation. Villagers of Vasilpur say Ram Babu's legacy will live on in the heart of Bihar and the nation.
The news of his martyrdom plunged the village into mourning and exuberance of pride among the villagers because of Ram Babu's sacrifice. Ram Babu's sacrifice, part of the ongoing Operation Sindoor, has cast a shadow of grief over his native village, where his body will be brought on Thursday for final rites with full state honours. Martyred jawan's uncle Shashikant while talking with reporters said that he was younger son of former deputy mukhia of Hariharpur panchayat Ramvichar Singh, who died two years ago. His elder brother loco pilot posted at Hajaribagh in Jharkhand.
Ram Babu had dreamt of serving the nation since childhood, said his family members. His widow, still reeling from the shock, told local reporters that she was devastated because of loss but proud of her husband's bravery. The funeral will be attended by army officials and district authorities. This marks the second such tragedy in recent days. Mohammad Imtiaz, a BSF sub-inspector of Saran, was also killed in Pakistani firing and buried in his native village on Monday.
Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar expressed deep sorrow at the loss, stating, 'The country will always remember Ram Babu Singh's sacrifice. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family.' The state government has announced an ex-gratia of ₹50 lakh for the martyr's next of kin and confirmed that his last rites will be conducted with full police honours. Kumar also urged citizens to stand in solidarity with the soldier's family during this difficult time.

BSF jawan gets hero's welcome in Dhanbad
1 2 Dhanbad : When BSF jawan Rajesh Kumar deboarded at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Gomoh railway station on Sunday morning, he was in for a surprise. Waiting at the station were officials of the Dhanbad district administration, police personnel and hundreds of locals. The crowd cheered for him with 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' and 'Vande Mataram' slogans. Notes of traditional musical instruments filled the air as the town celebrated the return of its ' Operation Sindoor ' hero. A member of BSF's 120 battalion, Kumar sustained injuries during the heightened military exchange between India and Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. Unmindful of his wounds, Kumar put up a brave fight before being evacuated for medical care. He was admitted to the 166 military hospital at Satwari in Jammu and discharged on May 25. Topchanchi circle officer Sanjay Kumar Singh, inspector Rahul Jha, and RPF officials led the reception, garlanding the jawan and expressing gratitude for his bravery. The emotionally charged scene also moved passengers waiting at the station and many of them joined the celebrations. "It is a historic moment for us. I have never seen such a grand welcome for any soldier. This will be remembered forever," said Vinod Kumar, a vendor at the station. Calling jawan Kumar "a true inspiration for all", deputy commissioner (DC) Aditya Ranjan said, "He fought fearlessly. " Rajesh Kumar is on medical leave till July 2.

Army chief reviews operational preparedness along LAC in Uttarakhand
NEW DELHI: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi on Sunday visited forward posts along the LAC in the Garhwal, Uttarakhand region to review the operational and administrative readiness of the deployed forces. The Army in its statement said, "During his visit, the COAS interacted with troops guarding the frontiers and commended them for their unwavering dedication, resilience, and professionalism. He emphasised the importance of maintaining high standards of operational preparedness and constant vigilance." Later in the day, the COAS inaugurated Ibex Tarana 88.4 FM, the first-of-its-kind Community Radio Station based in Jyotirmath, Uttarakhand. The station is envisioned as a vital platform for local expression, knowledge sharing, and the preservation of cultural heritage. Its broadcasts will include programmes on education, environment, weather, entertainment, employment, disaster preparedness, tourism, health, and traditional arts. In his inaugural podcast, the COAS remarked, "Ibex Tarana is not just a radio station-it is a powerful medium to amplify the voice of youth. It will bring the community together, promote local talent, and reconnect people with their cultural roots." On this occasion, the COAS also felicitated distinguished veterans with the Veterans Achievement Award in recognition of their outstanding contributions to nation-building and social development. Uttarakhand, along with Himachal Pradesh form the Middle Sector of the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Uttarakhand is also defined into Kumaon and Garhwal regions. There are around 22 Passes in the Middle Sector dotted on 545 kilometres and including the boundaries shared with Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
