An Army jawan from Siwan, Ram Babu Kumar Singh (26), became the second personnel of Bihar to succumb to battle injuries in Jammu and Kashmir on May 12. He was rushed to hospital for treatment where he succumbed to the injuries late on Monday. He was posted to the Nagrotta in 16 Corps wed with Anjali on December 10, 2024. His wife is currently staying at her mother's house in Dhanbad (Jharkhand) and is said to be pregnant. He joined the Indian Army in 2017 and was posted with the Army Aviation. Villagers of Vasilpur say Ram Babu's legacy will live on in the heart of Bihar and the nation. The news of his death plunged the village into mourning. Martyred jawan's uncle Shashikant while talking with reporters said that he was younger son of former deputy mukhia of Hariharpur panchayat Ramvichar Singh, who died two years ago. His elder brother, a loco pilot, was posted at Hajaribagh in Jharkhand. Ram Babu had spoken of serving the nation since he was a child, said his family members. His widow, still reeling from the shock, told local reporters that she was devastated because of the loss but proud of her husband's bravery. The funeral will be attended by army officials and district authorities. This marks the second such tragedy in recent days. Mohammad Imtiaz, a BSF sub-inspector of Saran, was also killed in Pakistani firing and buried in his native village on Monday. Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar expressed deep sorrow at the loss, stating, 'The country will always remember Ram Babu Singh's sacrifice. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family.' The state government has announced an ex-gratia of ₹50 lakh for the martyr's next of kin and confirmed that his last rites will be conducted with full police honours. Kumar also urged citizens to stand in solidarity with the soldier's family during this difficult time.

Jawan dies in Pak shelling along LoC in J&K after India's strike on terror camps

The official X account of 16 Corps, Indian Army on Wednesday night confirmed that an Indian jawan was killed in Pakistan shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. This comes after India struck nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. "GOC and all ranks of White Knight Corps salute the supreme sacrifice of L/Nk Dinesh Kumar of 5 Fd Regt, who laid down his life on 07 May 25 during Pakistan Army shelling. We also stand in solidarity with all victims of the targeted attacks on innocent civilians in Poonch Sector," it wrote. Codenamed Operation Sindoor, India's strikes on terror camps linked to three terror outfits, Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen, were in retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed. Pakistan resorted to arbitrary firing and heavy shelling along the Line of Control and the International Border after Operation Sindoor. At least 15 Indians were killed and 43 others injured in Pakistan's cross-border shelling in the Poonch and Tangdhar regions of Jammu and Kashmir, defence sources told India Today TV. The Indian Army reportedly responded swiftly, targeting multiple Pakistan Army posts in the Kupwara and Rajouri-Poonch sectors and inflicting heavy military casualties. One of the shells fired by Pakistan struck a corner of Gurudwara Shri Guru Singh Sabha, damaging a door and shattering window panes, said Narinder Singh, President of the District Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee. "12 people have died in cross-border shelling in different areas of the Poonch district," Singh added. Tune In
