Beloved Local Washington Bakery Is Closing Before End of June
The community in Bellingham, Washington, received an unfortunate update this week regarding a beloved bakery.
Avellino Gluten Free Bakery will officially close its doors this weekend. It's final day of operation will be June 14. The bakery was well-known for its gluten-free pies, pastries and breads.
"It's with a heavy heart we are announcing the closure of Avellino Gluten Free Bakery. This will take effect and be our last day of operation, Saturday June 14th," the all-natural bakery said in a Facebook post. "If you or anyone you know is interested in purchasing a fully functioning gluten free bakery please reach out. If you are interested in purchasing any equipment please reach out. We have stainless steel tables, shelving, display cases, mixers, a range, rotating pita oven, commercial fridge, commercial freezer, display freezer and various utensils and miscellaneous baking item.
"Thank you to all our patrons over the years we really are saddened to have to close shop."
This decision will not impact Avellino Gluten Free Bakery's sister business, Avellino Coffee House.
"Please note this closure does NOT affect Avellino Coffeehouse, and we have no plans to stop serving the community any time soon. We love the community and as seasons come and go, so do businesses. While we will miss Avellino Gluten Free, we are looking forward to what lies ahead."
Avellino Gluten Free Bakery is usually open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays. On Saturdays, however, customers are served until noon.
Several Facebook users made it clear they'll visit Avellino Gluten Free Bakery before this week is over.

Customer charged RM30 for mixed rice in JB, then called out by owner over misleading photo angle
Would you pay RM30 for a plate of mixed rice? If your idea of nasi campur still revolves around a budget-friendly meal where you can eat to your heart's content without breaking the bank, it might be time for a reality check. A man in Johor Bahru recently took to Facebook to share his shock over being charged RM30.20 for a single plate of cai peng at Sentosa Curry Rice in Taman Sentosa. In his post, he included a photo of his meal, detailing the items he picked: a piece of curry chicken, some braised pork and egg, plus a serving of curry vegetables. Like most of us, he didn't bother to ask for the price of each dish while piling food onto his plate, thus, was blindsided when it was time to pay. To top it off, the bill included a 6% SST charge. Apparently, this wasn't his first rodeo. He claimed to be a long-time patron, dating back to the shop's humble pushcart beginnings, particularly fond of their fried chicken. So naturally, the RM30 price tag would hit harder. Many netizens chimed in, siding with the man and dropping jokes here and there. But not everyone took his side. A user posted an estimated itemised bill of his meal while calling him out for being 'greedy'. The plot thickened when the eatery's owner responded with a detailed breakdown of the cai peng, which included: Curry chicken (RM6) Rice (RM4) Braised eggs (RM1.50) Curry vegetables (RM4) Braised pork (RM15) Chinese tea (RM1) She also pointed out that he had taken a rather generous helping of pork, something not clearly reflected in his photo, and accused him of using a strategic camera angle to downplay the portion. However, the man wasn't backing down. He responded, insisting that he didn't even order any drinks, throwing the validity of the breakdown into question. The internet remained divided: some argued that RM15 for 10 pieces of pork (RM1.50 each) was fair enough, while others couldn't get over the RM4 charge for plain rice. Heritage Sin Kee Chicken Rice closes after 2 months at new outlet
After just over 2 months of operations at Sims Vista Market & Food Centre, Heritage Sin Kee Chicken Rice closed for good on 24 May 2025. The reason for their closure was not specified, simply stating they've ceased operations 'till further notice'. We can't talk about chicken rice in Singapore without mentioning the legendary Sin Kee Chicken Rice, first founded at Margaret Drive in 1971 by Mr Leong Fook Wing. Today, there are 6 stalls islandwide that share the 'Sin Kee' name, and while not all are directly connected, some trace their roots back to the OG. One such stall is the aforementioned Heritage Sin Kee Chicken Rice, run by one of the late founder's sons, Niven. Before rebranding to its current name, this stall had undergone many variations, from Uncle Chicken Rice, Sin Kee Famous Chicken (featured in the Singapore episode of Netflix's Street Food: Asia!), to Sin Kee Chicken Rice (Margaret Drive). Heritage Sin Kee Chicken Rice's closure was made known by the posters Niven plastered across his stall front — one placed directly on his face on the signage. He uploaded it to Facebook with a sardonic caption, 'My face so 乞人憎 (qi ren zeng). Must sealed up', a phrase that loosely translates to 'so annoying, people can't stand the sight of it.' A separate Facebook post by a netizen on 10 Jun garnered mixed reactions in the comments. While some loyal customers were disappointed by this sudden news, others were noting Niven's pattern of relatively short stints at various locations. Since Heritage Sin Kee Chicken Rice is now closed, will Niven open another outlet under a new name? Only time will tell. Until then, you can still get your fix of the OG Sin Kee Chicken Rice recipe at his brother's stall, Margaret Drive Chicken Rice at Holland Drive. 15 best 'clucking good' chicken rice stalls in Singapore [Apr 2025 update] The post Heritage Sin Kee Chicken Rice closes after 2 months at new outlet appeared first on
