Former Texas A&M QB has high expectations ahead of his first season with Houston
Texas A&M's 2025 football team will not include longtime quarterback Conner Weigman, who transferred to Houston this offseason due to current starting quarterback Marcel Reed earning the job during the latter half of the 2024 season, as Weigman consistently dealt with injuries and felt it was time to find a new home to re-establish his five-star recruiting status.
This spring, Weigman has put in the work with the Cougars, dropping weight and gaining strength in the weight room, looking like the player who Aggie fans hoped would lead the program to prominence over the past two seasons, but as we all know, this is just part of college football in 2025. Weigman's decision to transfer to Houston was a no-brainer, as the Cypress, Texas native used to attend Houston games as a child.
While following his progress this spring is tough, Houston fans and local media members have provided various interview clips, including Saturday's press conference where Weigman, as confident as ever, is looking to lead the Cougars to the Big 12 Championship game in his first season with the program.
"Personal goals, I have a lot of them," Weigman stated. "I mean, personal goals to go on and with the Big 12 Championship, I said that when I came here, and I've said it every day since. That's the plan, and that's what we're going for.
In three seasons with Texas A&M, Weigman threw for 2,694 yards, 19 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Again, his lack of prolific stats is due to injury issues, including his shoulder injury that affected his throwing motion and overall confidence. For the first time in years, Weigman is healthy and on track to have his best collegiate season yet.

Nebraska athletic director issues statement on historic House Settlement A federal judge has finally approved a settlement that could change the face of college athletics. Judge Claudia Ann Wilken approved the House Settlement, paving the way for college athletes to be financially compensated for their name, image, and likeness (NIL) directly by their school. The settlement will now allow schools to directly compensate their student-athletes for their NIL rights. In the first year under the settlement, schools will be allowed to share up to $20.5 million with their athletes. That number represents 22% of their revenue from sources such as media rights, ticket sales, and sponsorships. Third parties are still permitted to enter into NIL deals with players under this agreement. Another aspect of the settlement is the $2.7 billion in back pay that will be paid to athletes who competed between 2016 and 2024. Those funds will come from the NCAA and the conferences.
