
Oman's minister sheds light on one health policy in Tunis
Tunis: Oman participated on Saturday in the activities of the Regional Conference for One Health for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Region hosted by the Tunisian Republic.
The Sultanate participated as guest of honour by an official delegation chaired by Dr. Hilal bin Ali bin Hilal Al Sabti, Minister of Health.
Dr. Al Sabti gave a speech in which he reviewed the efforts of the Sultanate of Oman in implementing the one health policy.
He said that the conference comes at a significant time and represents a vital platform for exchange of expertise and optimal practices which contributes to boosting the collective efforts and regional and international cooperation in the field.
In his speech, the minister shed light on the Sultanate's efforts in implementing the one health policy.
He added that the Sultanate has established several national mechanisms supportive to the one health policy and formed teams in various sectors to further cement integration between the various sectors.
The minister also described the leading role the Sultanate has played in the international arena in the antimicrobial resistance dossier by hosting the third high- level international ministerial meeting for the first time in the MENA region in Muscat in 2022.
He said that the Muscat conference and its final declaration signed by 47 countries represents the foundation for the preparations for the high-level meeting in the UN to discuss the microbes' resistance issue held in New York on 26 September 2024.
The Minister also pointed out that the Sultanate of Oman has launched the carbon neutrality (zero carbon) project, which represents a strategic pillar supportive to environmental health.
The conference discussed a number of issues within the one health framework such as the basic principles and the global significance of the issue and implementation of the one health method and protection of nature under climate change conditions among other issues.

Health Ministry celebrates graduation of students
Muscat: The Ministry of Health on Sunday celebrated the graduation of the 2nd and 3rd batches of the Health Assistants Programme. The programme support the Health Ministry's strategy on consolidating the national health workforce and achieving Oman Vision 2040 goals for the health sector. The programme seeks to raise the efficiency of competencies in health sector and enable them to promote healthcare services in Oman. The second and third batches of the Health Assistants Programme included more than 100 male and female graduates. The programme constitutes a link in national initiatives implemented by the Ministry of Health to meet the health system's need for technical support personnel. The three-month programme included knowledge acquisition, skills in basic nursing, first aid, patient care and handling of medical devices, in addition to practical training at primary and secondary healthcare institutions. The graduation ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr. Badria Mohsen Al Rashdi, Director General of Health Services at the Ministry of Health, and attended by department heads, programme supervisors and health and training personnel.

TUNIS: The Sultanate of Oman participated as the guest of honour at the One Health Regional Conference for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, hosted by the Republic of Tunisia. The Sultanate of Oman's delegation was headed by Dr Hilal bin Ali al Sabti, Minister of Health. He explained that the Sultanate of Oman has established several national mechanisms to support the One Health approach, including the formation of national committees and sectoral teams to activate integration between sectors. Those include the National Committee for Integrated Disease Vector Management, the National Committee for Food Safety and Quality, the National Committee for the Hydrological Programme for Safe Water Resources, the National Committee for Climate Change and Ozone Layer Protection, the National Committee for the Sound Management of Chemicals and the Central Team for Improving Environmental Performance in coordination with the Environment Authority to ensure the safety of ecosystems and adaptation to climate change. 'The Sultanate of Oman has played a leading and distinguished role in international forums on the issue of antimicrobial resistance, highlighted by its organisation and hosting of the Third High-Level Global Ministerial Conference for the first time in the MENA region in Muscat in 2022. Besides, the Muscat Conference and the Muscat Final Statement, signed by 47 countries, marked the starting point for preparations for the United Nations High-Level Meeting to discuss the issue of antimicrobial resistance, held in New York on September 26, 2024," he said. 'Within the framework of our commitment to sustainability and the environment (climate change), we launched the Carbon Neutrality Project, which represents a strategic pillar for supporting environmental health by achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
