Turkish official: Russia-Ukraine talks could continue for several rounds

Halil Korkmaz, Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Relations Department of the Turkish Justice and Development Party (AKP), predicted on Wednesday that the potential negotiation process between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul would continue for more than one round, indicating that there could be a series of meetings.
Russian news agency Sputnik quoted Korkmaz as saying, in response to a question about whether the upcoming meeting in Istanbul on May 15 might not be the final one, that "it is very likely that after the negotiations conclude, an agreement will be reached to continue the process (negotiations) in order to end the conflice."
He added, "There may be a second and third meeting. This cannot be ruled out. Everything will depend on the results (of the first possible meeting on May 15)."
Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously offered Ukraine to resume direct negotiations without preconditions in Istanbul, Turkey, on May 15, and did not rule out the possibility that the two sides might reach a ceasefire agreement during those negotiations.
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia is determined to seriously explore ways to reach a long-term peaceful settlement.
According to him, the goals of the proposed negotiations with Ukraine are to eliminate the root causes of the conflict and protect Russia's interests.
In response, Volodymyr Zelenskyy has once again begun to put forward conditions previously described as unacceptable in Moscow, insisting that Moscow agree to a complete ceasefire starting May 12, and only then will the Kyiv regime sit at the negotiating table.

Putin approves Russian Navy Development Strategy until 2050
Moscow - Saba: Nikolai Patrushev, aide to the Russian president, announced on Monday that Russia's position as one of the world's greatest naval powers is gradually being restored. Sputnik quoted Patrushev as saying that Russian President Vladimir Putin approved the Russian Navy Development Strategy until 2050, stressing that the approved document is the first of its kind in modern history. According to Sputnik, Patrushev revealed in an interview with the Russian newspaper Argumenty i Fakty that "the decision to develop the strategy was made in July of last year during a meeting in the Kremlin. At the president's direction, the Ministry of Defense prepared a draft law, which was subsequently reviewed by the Russian Maritime Council, taking into account proposals submitted by federal agencies and organizations." He noted that "the final version of the strategy, which was submitted to the head of state for consideration, was approved by him on May 30." He added, "I would like to say, without going into details, that such a strategic planning document is being adopted for the first time in modern history." Patrushev emphasized that "the development of a strong and modern (naval) fleet is one of Russia's priority tasks." The document includes an assessment of the navy's condition and capabilities, taking into account the experience of the air defense forces, and formulates the requirements for the fleet's future combat formation, according to Patrushev. Patrushev continued, "The strategy includes an analysis of developments in the global military and political situation, the likelihood and nature of armed conflicts, and the capabilities of leading naval powers." The strategy also assesses the current state and capabilities of the Russian Navy, taking into account the experience of special military operations. It also formulates the main requirements for the future combat formation of the Russian fleet, its main tasks in peacetime and wartime, and the mechanisms for the future formation of the navy. The Russian presidential aide emphasized that "it is impossible to develop a strong and modern fleet without a long-term vision of the scenarios for the development of the global situation, the evolving challenges and threats, and without defining the goals and tasks facing the Russian Navy." Patrushev concluded by saying that "Russia is gradually regaining its position as one of the greatest naval powers in the world." It is worth noting that since 2024, the command of the Russian naval fleets has been directly transferred to the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy. The Russian Navy includes the Baltic, Northern, Black Sea, and Pacific Fleets, in addition to the Caspian Sea Flotilla. Turkish FM discusses Ukrainian crisis with NATO SG
Ankara- Saba: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan discussed the Ukrainian crisis by phone on Sunday with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. According to the Russian news agency Novosti, a source in the Turkish Foreign Ministry said: "Fidan and Rutte discussed efforts to end the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and preparations for the NATO summit scheduled for June 24-25 in The Hague." The second round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine was held on June 2 in Turkey. The meeting lasted for more than an hour, during which the two sides exchanged memoranda of understanding on the settlement of the conflict. Russia calls on Ukraine to receive bodies of 6,000 soldiers, adhere to Istanbul agreement
Moscow – Saba: Head of the Russian delegation to the Istanbul negotiations Vladimir Medinsky on Saturday called on the Ukrainian side to receive the bodies of 6,000 of its soldiers to enable their families to bury them properly. Medinsky explained that the Ukrainian side had suddenly postponed the process of receiving the bodies and exchanging prisoners of war, according to the Russia Today website. He said: "Russia calls on Kyiv to receive the bodies of 6,000 Ukrainian soldiers and officers so that their families can bury them with dignity." According to the agreement of the last round of negotiations in Istanbul, a humanitarian operation was scheduled to begin on Friday, including the transfer of the bodies of more than 6,000 Ukrainian forces, in addition to the exchange of wounded and seriously ill prisoners, and all prisoners under the age of 25. The first batch includes 1,212 frozen bodies of Ukrainian soldiers, which were transported via refrigerated trucks to the exchange area, while the remaining bodies are still on their way. Medinsky confirmed that Russia has provided Ukraine with a preliminary list of 640 prisoners from the agreed-upon categories. He noted that the Russian Ministry of Defense's liaison team is present on the border with Ukraine, but the Ukrainian side has postponed the process without providing clear reasons. Medinsky stated that the Ukrainian negotiating team has not arrived at the exchange site, describing the excuses offered by Kyiv as "disparate and somewhat strange."
