Putin approves Russian Navy Development Strategy until 2050
Nikolai Patrushev, aide to the Russian president, announced on Monday that Russia's position as one of the world's greatest naval powers is gradually being restored.
Sputnik quoted Patrushev as saying that Russian President Vladimir Putin approved the Russian Navy Development Strategy until 2050, stressing that the approved document is the first of its kind in modern history.
According to Sputnik, Patrushev revealed in an interview with the Russian newspaper Argumenty i Fakty that "the decision to develop the strategy was made in July of last year during a meeting in the Kremlin. At the president's direction, the Ministry of Defense prepared a draft law, which was subsequently reviewed by the Russian Maritime Council, taking into account proposals submitted by federal agencies and organizations."
He noted that "the final version of the strategy, which was submitted to the head of state for consideration, was approved by him on May 30."
He added, "I would like to say, without going into details, that such a strategic planning document is being adopted for the first time in modern history."
Patrushev emphasized that "the development of a strong and modern (naval) fleet is one of Russia's priority tasks."
The document includes an assessment of the navy's condition and capabilities, taking into account the experience of the air defense forces, and formulates the requirements for the fleet's future combat formation, according to Patrushev.
Patrushev continued, "The strategy includes an analysis of developments in the global military and political situation, the likelihood and nature of armed conflicts, and the capabilities of leading naval powers."
The strategy also assesses the current state and capabilities of the Russian Navy, taking into account the experience of special military operations. It also formulates the main requirements for the future combat formation of the Russian fleet, its main tasks in peacetime and wartime, and the mechanisms for the future formation of the navy.
The Russian presidential aide emphasized that "it is impossible to develop a strong and modern fleet without a long-term vision of the scenarios for the development of the global situation, the evolving challenges and threats, and without defining the goals and tasks facing the Russian Navy."
Patrushev concluded by saying that "Russia is gradually regaining its position as one of the greatest naval powers in the world."
It is worth noting that since 2024, the command of the Russian naval fleets has been directly transferred to the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy.
The Russian Navy includes the Baltic, Northern, Black Sea, and Pacific Fleets, in addition to the Caspian Sea Flotilla.
The Russian Navy was established on October 30, 1696, by royal decree of Tsar Peter I. Since then, the Russian Navy has been performing its duties in defense of the sovereignty and security of the Russian Federation.

Russian security announces destruction of Ukrainian facilities for production of missile systems
Moscow - Saba: The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced today Thursday that, in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense, it had thwarted a secret Ukrainian missile program aimed at developing "Sapsan" ballistic missiles capable of targeting deep inside Russia. Russian authorities confirmed that the joint operation resulted in the destruction of Ukrainian facilities specialized in military industries, which were being used to develop and manufacture these missiles. They pointed out that the preemptive information obtained by the security services allowed them to determine the precise coordinates of these facilities before carrying out the strikes with high accuracy. Russia Prepares to Test New Missile Ahead of Alaska Summit
Washington - Saba: Reuters quoted American researchers and a Western security source as saying that Moscow is working on testing what appears to be a new nuclear-powered cruise missile, as Russian President Vladimir Putin prepares for talks with his US counterpart, Donald Trump, next Friday in Alaska. According to Reuters, these assessments were reached separately by Jeffrey Lewis of the California-based Middlebury Institute of International Studies and Decker Eveleth of the Virginia-based research and analysis organization CNA, by examining images taken by commercial satellite company Planet Labs in recent weeks and up until Tuesday. The two researchers agreed in their conclusions that the images reveal extensive activity at the Pankovo test site on the Novaya Zemlya archipelago in the Barents Sea, including increases in personnel, equipment, vessels, and aircraft related to previous tests of the 9M730 Burevestnik missile. "We can see all the activity going on at the test site, which is massive amounts of supplies coming in to support operations and movement around the place where they're actually launching the missile," Jeffrey Lewis said. A Western security source confirmed to Reuters that Moscow is preparing to test the Burevestnik missile. Lewis indicated that the test could take place this week, raising the possibility that it could impact the summit between the Russian and US presidents in Alaska. The Russian president has previously described the missile as "invincible" against current and future missile defenses.
