Social media reacts to Alabama's second round SEC Tournament loss vs. Tennessee
After a 4-1 victory over Missouri on Tuesday morning, the Alabama Crimson Tide advanced to the second round of the 2025 SEC Tournament in Hoover on Wednesday afternoon where they collided with the defending champions, the Tennessee Volunteers.
A back-and-forth contest between the SEC's No. 8 and No. 9 seeds, both of Alabama and Tennessee were playing to improve their chances at potentially hosting a regional in the NCAA Tournament, along with deciding who will be advancing to the SEC Tournament quarterfinals on Thursday against regular season champion Texas.
To get things started Wednesday afternoon, Tennessee struck for a run in the first, as well as another in the second, to take an early 2-0 on Alabama starter Aedan Finateri. The Crimson Tide would get on the board in the top of the fourth via a Richie Bonomolo Jr. RBI double as well, but Tennessee immediately struck for three runs in the bottom of that inning, building a commanding 5-1 lead.
However, Alabama came roaring back with a five-run top of the fifth inning to take a 6-5 lead in the game, capped by a two-RBI double from Bonomolo. Alabama also scored two runs during the inning via a Tennessee throwing error, and this seemed to be a potential turning point in the matchup.
That thought quickly changed however, as Tennessee tied the game in the bottom of the fifth, and went on to build a commanding 11-6 lead via a five-run sixth inning. The Volunteers also added four more runs in the eighth inning, followed by four from Alabama in the ninth, with Tennessee going on to win by a final score of 15-10.
A game in which the Crimson Tide were out-hit a combined 20-10, here is a look at some reactions on social media Wednesday afternoon to Alabama's loss against Tennessee in the second round of the SEC Tournament.

Iowa baseball star earns Perfect Game All-American honors

Iowa baseball star earns Perfect Game All-American honors After a stellar junior campaign with the Hawkeyes, Iowa baseball ace pitcher Cade Obermueller has been named a Perfect Game third-team All-American. The left-hander is the Hawkeyes' first All-American honoree since Brody Brecht and Keaton Anthony earned it in 2023. The Iowa City, Iowa native earned the third-team All-America distinction after going 5-3 with a 3.02 ERA in 15 starts. He posted five quality starts and fanned 117 batters over 83.1 innings. His 117 punchouts rank second all-time in program history for strikeouts in a season. The highlight of Obermueller's 2024-25 season was his complete-game performance at Northwestern on March 4. In that game, he recorded a career-high 12 strikeouts while giving up only one hit, one run, and one base-on-balls in a 12-1 Hawkeyes run-rule win. Obermueller's third-team All-American honors add to his growing list of accomplishments from the past season, which now includes a 2025 All-Big Ten Tournament team and an ABCA/Rawlings NCAA All-Midwest Region first-team selection. While Obermueller could be in line for more honors following the conclusion of the 2025 College World Series later this month, a potential return for his senior season with the Hawkeyes could be vital to the program's success as they hope to return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2023. Edey needed the procedure to repair and restabilize his ankle after spraining it again during offseason training last week. The Grizzlies said the 7-foot-3 Canadian would be evaluated again in four months, which is less than two weeks before the 2025-26 season opens Oct. 21.
