Iowa baseball star earns Perfect Game All-American honors
After a stellar junior campaign with the Hawkeyes, Iowa baseball ace pitcher Cade Obermueller has been named a Perfect Game third-team All-American.
The left-hander is the Hawkeyes' first All-American honoree since Brody Brecht and Keaton Anthony earned it in 2023.
The Iowa City, Iowa native earned the third-team All-America distinction after going 5-3 with a 3.02 ERA in 15 starts. He posted five quality starts and fanned 117 batters over 83.1 innings. His 117 punchouts rank second all-time in program history for strikeouts in a season.
The highlight of Obermueller's 2024-25 season was his complete-game performance at Northwestern on March 4. In that game, he recorded a career-high 12 strikeouts while giving up only one hit, one run, and one base-on-balls in a 12-1 Hawkeyes run-rule win.
Obermueller's third-team All-American honors add to his growing list of accomplishments from the past season, which now includes a 2025 All-Big Ten Tournament team and an ABCA/Rawlings NCAA All-Midwest Region first-team selection.
While Obermueller could be in line for more honors following the conclusion of the 2025 College World Series later this month, a potential return for his senior season with the Hawkeyes could be vital to the program's success as they hope to return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2023.

NBA approves sale of Boston Celtics for a record $6.1 billion
BOSTON — The NBA on Wednesday unanimously approved the sale of the Boston Celtics to a group led by private equity mogul Bill Chisholm, a deal that values the franchise at more than $6.1 billion — the largest ever for an American professional sports team. The league said the transaction is expected to close shortly. When it does, Chisholm will take ownership of at least 51% of the team, with full control coming by 2028 at a price that could bring the total value to $7.3 billion. The previous record for a U.S. sports franchise was the $6.05 billion paid for the NFL's Washington Commanders in 2023. The record price for an NBA team was the $4 billion mortgage firm owner Mat Ishbia paid for the Phoenix Suns in 2023. A Massachusetts native and graduate of Dartmouth College and Penn's Wharton School of business, Chisholm is the managing partner of California-based Symphony Technology Group. The new ownership group also includes Boston businessmen Rob Hale, who is a current Celtics shareholder, and Bruce Beal Jr. Wyc Grousbeck led the ownership group that bought the team in 2002 for $360 million and presided over NBA championships in 2008 and '24. The franchise's 18 NBA titles is a record. Chisholm outbid at least two other groups, one led by previous Celtics minority partner Steve Pagliuca. Pagliuca has since announced plans to but the WNBA's Connecticut Sun for $325 million and move them to Boston, but the women's league has balked at the deal.

Christian Pulisic blasts ‘cop-out' criticisms from Landon Donovan, ex-USMNT players
Two U.S. Men's National Team stars hit out at their critics who questioned them for not participating in the Gold Cup earlier this summer. Christian Pulisic and Timothy Weah fired back at the players-turned-media pundits during a newly released episode of the Paramount+ documentary, 'Pulisic.' The American soccer star faced criticism from the likes of Landon Donovan and other USMNT alumni for doing 'the best thing for myself' and not participating in the summer Gold Cup tournament. Christian Pulisic clapped back at USMNT stars. REUTERS In the eighth episode, which focuses on the national team's struggles, Pulisic defended his decision with some pointed language. 'I'd say the most annoying thing, and for me, the biggest cop-out of all time, is when, especially, you know, all pundits want to say: 'They didn't want it. They didn't have the heart, you know, back in our day, we would fight and we would die on that field,'' Pulisic said. Weah had a similar feeling when he discussed the criticism, taking it a step further. 'Those guys are chasing checks, and for me, I just feel like they're really evil, honestly, because they've been players, and they know what it's like when you're getting bashed,' he said. 'Those are the same guys that will turn around and shake your hand and try to be friendly with you.' 'Don't get me wrong, I respect all of them, I mean, they were the players I looked up to,' Weah added. 'But quite frankly, the guys before us didn't win anything either.' Christian Pulisic REUTERS The spat between some of the current players and the former ones took a very public turn earlier this year when Donovan said on air, 'I can't help but think about some of our guys on vacation, not wanting to play in the Gold Cup. It's pissing me off.' Donovan did not name any players specifically, but Pulisic's father, Mark, fired back with a post on social media. The United States went on to lose to Mexico, 2-1, in the Gold Cup final.

The Brewers' 12th straight win had fans so fired up for free burgers
The @Brewers have won 12 straight for the 2nd time in franchise history! The Milwaukee Brewers are the hottest team in baseball. And after Wednesday's 12-5 win over the Pirates — the Brewers' 12th straight — their fans are about to be well fed. The win triggered one of the most legendary promotions in all of American sports. We've all seen restaurants and companies make lofty marketing promises in support of the local team. But nothing really tops what Milwaukee restaurant, George Webb, does when the Brewers win 12 straight games. It's free burgers for everyone. The "free burgers for 12 straight wins" promotion was formalized in 1970 when the Brewers became Milwaukee's MLB team. The Braves had left for Atlanta five years earlier. And since that promotion started, it had only been triggered twice: 1987 and 2018. Well, make room for a third time, Milwaukee. 🎉 THEY DID IT!!! 🎉 You know what that means? FREE GEORGE WEBB BURGERS are coming! We're buzzing with excitement and working hard to prepare. Please note: Burgers will NOT be ready right away. A special giveaway date will be announced tomorrow with all the details! Stay tuned! The restaurant plans to offer more details about the burger giveaway on Thursday. But in the meantime, Brewers fans were in celebration mode. Nothing excites a community quite like free food.
