Texans RB Nick Chubb ready to become 'great together' with Joe Mixon
Nick Chubb is excited to call Joe Mixon a teammate in Houston.
After watching his career revival last season as the Houston Texans' lead running back, who wouldn't be excited to see similar results after a lost campaign in Cleveland?
Chubb, who inked a one-year deal worth $2.5 million earlier this week, will likely serve as the secondary runner behind Mixon to begin his career. Mixon is expected to be fully healthy by the time the season rolls around, but he missed three games during the 2024 regular season, meaning Chubb could see significant reps.
After averaging 3.3 yards per play last season in eight games, Chubb is just looking to get back to a stable situation. Splitting carries with an option coming off a 1,000-yard campaign on a championship-caliber team might be a way to help the former Pro Bowler regain his confidence.
"I think we're great together," Chubb said of Mixon during Texans minicamp Wednesday. "He's a bigger guy. You know, tall, explosive, he runs super hard, and I do the same thing. So, I think it'll be us, kind of doing it back-to-back against other defenses."
Chubb, a 2018 second-round pick out of Georgia, ranks third on the Browns' career rushing list (6,843 yards) after spending the first seven years of his career in Cleveland. Much like the four-time Pro Bowler in the other major city of Ohio, Mixon spent seven seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, helping them reach the Super Bowl in 2021.
Not only did Chubb remember Mixon from his time in Cincinnati, but the two were in the same recruiting class back in 2014, where at one point, he thought they'd be teammates.
"He should have come to Georgia, by the way. He went to Cincinnati. I played against him twice a year. And I was always afraid he would take over the game with his ability. You know, he runs super hard. And so, I think both of us have the same intangibles. It'll be tough for defense to stop.'

Legendary Rams QB named among highest-graded players since 2000

Legendary Rams QB named among highest-graded players since 2000 The Los Angeles Rams' history over the past 25 years has been up and down. The franchise enjoyed a great start to the millennium with two consecutive playoff appearances and one Super Bowl berth before not seeing much success until Sean McVay became head coach in 2017. But over the past 25 years, one Rams quarterback made Pro Football Network's top-25 highest-graded quarterbacks list: Kurt Warner. He was a three-time Pro Bowler, two-time All-Pro and two-time MVP during his six years with the Rams after going undrafted in 1994 and playing for the AFL and NFL Europe. "Kurt Warner's career started before the QB+ era, but it includes some of the best years measured by the metric. In 2000, he led the NFL in completion percentage (67.7%), yards per completion (14.6), and net yards per pass attempt (9.03). "Warner made his mark with the St. Louis Rams during 'The Greatest Show on Turf,' one of the NFL's most explosive offenses. He later had a successful run with the Arizona Cardinals, earning a Pro Bowl nod in 2008 at age 37. Warner finished his career with 32,344 passing yards, 208 touchdowns, and a 93.7 passer rating. In 2001, he led the league with 4,830 yards and 36 TD passes. "From an advanced standpoint, Warner's numbers weren't elite but were solid — +0.13 EPA per dropback and 7.5 net yards per attempt. Those numbers, combined with his playoff success, helped earn him a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame." As PFN noted, Warner was the leader of "The Greatest Show on Turf" alongside Torry Holt, Isaac Bruce and Marshall Faulk. The group only won on Super Bowl together in 1999, but proved to be one of the most exciting teams to watch in the NFL at the turn of the century. Now, his bust sits in the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a sign of one of the greatest Rams players ever.

Talent Bischof raring to go as he names Bayern move 'perfect match'

Bayern Munich's new signing Tom Bischof takes part in his introductory press conference at the Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort, ahead of Bayern Munich's first Club World Cup group match against Auckland City. Sven Hoppe/dpa Teenager Tom Bischof has named his move to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich "a perfect match" and does not mind being compared to Bayern and Germany great Joshua Kimmich. The 19-year-old Bischof arrived on a free transfer from Hoffenheim and could make his debut on Sunday in their Club World Cup opener against Auckland City in Cincinnati. Advertisement That would be a week after he got his first minutes for the senior national team in the Nations League match for third place against France, underlining his meteoric rise over the past months. Bischof said at his official presentation at Bayern's camp in Florida that he has been a life-long Bayern fan, and happy to play at the Club World Cup instead of the under-21 Euros in Slovakia. "We are together here for a month. Of course the U21 Euros are something great. (But) I want to find my feet in the team, produce great performances and win trophies. I'm raring to go," he said. Bischof said that other clubs were also interested in him but that "the talks with (board member for sport) Max Eberl, (sporting director) Christoph Freund and also (coach) Vincent Kompany were very good. The system of play suits me very well." Advertisement Freund named Bischof "a really talented player" who "suits FC Bayern very well with the way he plays.' Bischof joins an already crowded Bayern midfield where he will be competing with fellow German internationals Leon Goretzka and Aleksandar Pavlovic as well as Portugal's João Palhinha for playing time alongside national team captain Kimmich. Bischof has been compared to Kimmich by the likes of 1990 World Cup winner and ex-Bayern great Lothar Matthäus. "I have heard the comparison a few times. Jo is an outstanding footballer. I look up to him. And I do believe that our style is similar. But of course I want to play together with him in the centre (of midfield)," Bischof said.
