1 2 Lucknow: Leg-spinner Piyush Chawla, who was part of India's two World Cup-winning campaigns, on Friday announced his retirement from all forms of cricket after a career spanning more than two decades. The Aligarh-born UP player was a member of India's T20 and ODI World Cup-winning squads in 2007 and 2011 under the captainship of MS Dhoni. He represented India in three Tests, 25 ODIs, and seven T20Is, taking 43 wickets across the three formats of the game. The 36-year-old Chawla is also the joint third-highest wicket-taker in Indian Premier League (IPL) history, having taken 192 wickets in as many matches in T-20 IPL tenure 2008-2024 while playing for four IPL teams, having won one title with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2014. Most recently, he played for Mumbai Indians in IPL-2024. This season, he remained unsold at the IPL auction. In domestic cricket, he has bagged 446 wickets and scored 5,486 runs in red ball cricket for UP and Gujarat. He played his last first class match for Uttar Pradesh against Kerala in Nov 2024. Announcing his retirement through an Instagram post, Chawla said, "After more than two decades on the field, the time has come to bid adieu to the beautiful game. I owe my deepest gratitude to my coaches KK Gautam and Pankaj Saraswat for nurturing and shaping me into the cricketer I became." "I also thank the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) and Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) for providing me the platform and opportunities to pursue my passion," he added. Talking to TOI, an emotional Chawla said, "I felt it's the right time, so I officially announced my retirement from all forms of international and domestic cricket. London [UK], June 6 (ANI): Australia's seasoned quick Scott Boland is still in the dark about his potential appearance in the World Test Championship final against South Africa on Tuesday at the Lord's, a venue where he would 'love' to play. With match figures of 5/105, the 36-year-old was one of Australia's premier pacers when they lifted their maiden WTC mace at The Oval in 2023 against India. He boosted his credentials against India by scalping 21 wickets in three appearances as Australia celebrated its first Border-Gavaskar Trophy triumph in a decade. Despite his exploits, Boland has found himself in a neck-to-neck battle with IPL-winning seamer Josh Hazlewood for one spot in the defending champions' pace setup against the Proteas. With less than a week left for the enticing contest, Boland has yet to receive the green light from the selectors about his spot in the playing XI. 'I haven't had any chats with them (selectors). My goal coming into the last two months is just to get myself and my body in the position where I can put my hand up and be ready to go if it (selection) goes my way,' Boland said in London on Thursday, as quoted from ICC. 'I probably felt like back into the Shield season (Australian domestic red-ball competition), my knee was sort of not wearing away but wasn't going how I wanted it to go and didn't feel like I was bowling how I wanted, but now I feel like I'm in a really good spot that I can bowl how I want to bowl. I loved the fight & the grit our young team, our shers showed through out the tournament. I loved the way our captain, our Sarpanch lead from the front & how Indian uncapped players dominated this IPL," she wrote. This year, Punjab Kings reached the IPL final for the first time in over a decade. Zinta described the season as 'unique', noting the team overcame multiple challenges — including injuries to key players, national call-ups, a pause in the tournament, and even having to relocate home games. 'This year was unique. We smashed records even though we lost key players to injury & national duty, witnessed a pause in the tournament, transferred home games to other states & evacuated a stadium ! We adapted & topped the points table after a decade & fought till the end in an exciting final,' she said. Zinta praised every player and thanked the support staff and fans for their unwavering belief. She wrote, 'I am so proud of each n every player of Punjab Kings for showing so much character throughout the tournament. A big thank you to each of them and to our support staff and everyone at PBKS for an incredible season.
