Florida's Todd Golden talks relationship with Bruce Pearl ahead of 2025 Final Four Auburn's Bruce Pearl will meet Florida's Todd Golden in a true "teacher vs. student" matchup in the Final Four.
Auburn basketball head coach Bruce Pearl and Florida head coach Todd Golden have crossed paths multiple times over the years.
Their relationship started during the 2009 Maccabiah Games when Pearl coached Golden and the USA men's team. Golden later served as director of basketball operations and as an assistant coach for Pearl's staff at Auburn from 2014-16. The pair became SEC rivals when Golden accepted the head coaching position at Florida in 2022, and now they will square off on the same floor in the 2025 Final Four.
Ahead of Saturday's matchup, Golden was asked about his relationship with Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl and assistant Steven Pearl. Golden says that he is excited for the opportunity to face the Pearls on a giant stage and that he is thankful for their friendship.
"It's incredible. It's what life is all about. We were laughing. (Steven and I) FaceTimed on Sunday after they beat Michigan State. We were shaking our heads like, Man, we're legitimately going to the Final Four, competing against each other. A long way from when we first got down to Auburn, I was director of basketball operations, he was the assistant strength coach. You can remind him of that when you see him. Like I said before, Bruce and Steven (Pearl) are incredibly important to me, have been really impactful with the opportunities I've had. I'm just really grateful for my relationship with them. I think it speaks volumes about the way we build our programs, that we're both still alive right now."
While Golden says he is proud that Florida and Auburn are competing in the Final Four, he will not take it easy on Pearl and the Tigers on Saturday.
"I don't like it as much in the regular season. At this point in the year, when you're in the Final Four, it is what it is. You're going to go out there and do everything you can to take each other out. I think in a way we're both pleasantly surprised to be competing against each other at this point in the season."
Auburn and Florida have played six times since Golden took over the program, with each team earning three wins. Golden got the best of Pearl in their most recent meeting when the Gators stunned No. 1 Auburn at Neville Arena, 90-81, on Feb. 8. Saturday's game between Pearl and Golden will be the biggest since the 2024 SEC Tournament, when Pearl's Tigers defeated Golden's Gators in the SEC Tournament final.

Former MSU QB calls out Big Ten rankings that snubbed Aidan Chiles
Former MSU QB calls out Big Ten rankings that snubbed Aidan Chiles Popular college football analyst for CBS Sports Josh Pate released his top 10 quarterbacks of the Big Ten, and a former Spartans signal caller had an issue with the list. Pate's top 10 quarterbacks list for the upcoming season left off Michigan State's Aidan Chiles -- which initially grabbed my attention as surprising to see. It also was alarming to former Michigan State starting quarterback Brian Lewerke -- who took to social media platform X to call out Pate. Lewerke called out Pate's list as "not very good" and noted that his feedback wasn't just because of Chiles being snubbed. You can see Lewerke's response and Pate's top 10 list in the post below: As I said above, I also was not a fan of this rankings from Pate. In my opinion, Chiles ranks as at top 10 quarterback in the league, with the potential to be a top five quarterback should he approach his ceiling. Last year, Chiles showed inconsistency but as a first year starter that was expected from him. Ironically, Nebraska's Dylan Raiola had comparable numbers to Chiles and he was ranked as the No. 6 quarterback in Pate's list while Chiles was left off. These type of lists are not ultimately a big deal and just used for fun offseason discussion. But I enjoyed seeing a former Spartans quarterback looking out for the current guy wearing green-and-white under center. Miami Dolphins rookies connect with community, culture in Coconut Grove
Before they suit up for the season, the Miami Dolphins' rookie class is getting to know South Florida off the field—learning local history, engaging with youth and embracing the culture of their new home. Building bonds beyond football At Barnacle Park in Coconut Grove, the rookies spent the day with kids from the Miami Gardens Police Athletic League, participating in activities designed to teach them about the area's cultural roots and historical significance, including the region's rich Bahamian heritage. "When we were doing the scavenger activity, I got to know them more personally and get more engaged," said Briana Pean, a member of the Miami Gardens Police Athletic League. Dolphins rookie cornerback Ethan Robinson said the experience was about more than just learning the city, it's about setting an example. "I feel like it helps us just like on top of the community engagement, so like the kids that are looking up to us and like trying to strive to be in our shoes one day, like we're showing them that there's more to being an NFL player than just what we produce on the field," Robinson said. "Like you have to give back to those around you and just build up the world around." History, culture and impact The visit to Coconut Grove is part of a series of community events the Dolphins rookies have participated in. During this stop, they explored the area's Bahamian influence, including a lesson in the origins of Junkanoo. "Junkanoo is being known to being brought to the Bahamas by Johnnie Kanoo. That was the slave that introduced Junkanoo to the Bahamas," one of the Junkanoo performers explained. Running back Ollie Gordon reflected on what it meant to get this kind of introduction to the city he'll soon represent on the field. "Knowing where I am, knowing the history about it, it's, it's the best thing possible, you know," Gordon said. "Some people from Florida probably like they just want to play football. They don't know much about us, so with us being here, I feel like that's huge for everybody." For Pean, the day left a lasting impression. "It feels amazing. I got to experience the culture and be more informative," she said. This was the final community event for the rookie class before they shift their focus to the season ahead and enter training camp preparation.

NFL player says his team lied about 'culture change'
Miami Dolphins linebacker Bradley Chubb told reporters that his team was "lying" about a change in culture last season. "I'm going to say last year we were lying, honestly, point-blank, period. We felt it," Chubb said at the team's minicam Wednesday. "We put our toe in the water, but we didn't dive all the way in. We didn't get all the way there with each other. We weren't making the effort to go the extra mile." He continued, "I would say this year we're doing that. I'm not sure how it's going to turn out for us, but we are putting forth that foot to change it. … If it works out, it's going to work out. If it doesn't, we're going to get back to the drawing board and make sure it works out." Head coach Mike McDaniel reacted to Chubb's comments while speaking to reporters. "It would have been awesome if he would have told me on the front end when they were lying," McDaniel said. "Beyond that, 2024, unless I'm using it directly for an analogy, I'm much more concerned with 2025. I think you do a lot more for the organization if you spend your time thinking forward in terms of not this, that or the other or whose fault it was. No, we want it like this, let's do it like this, and this is who we are. I don't even – what year did you speak of? I guess I'll read about that in history books."
