Former MSU QB calls out Big Ten rankings that snubbed Aidan Chiles
Popular college football analyst for CBS Sports Josh Pate released his top 10 quarterbacks of the Big Ten, and a former Spartans signal caller had an issue with the list.
Pate's top 10 quarterbacks list for the upcoming season left off Michigan State's Aidan Chiles -- which initially grabbed my attention as surprising to see. It also was alarming to former Michigan State starting quarterback Brian Lewerke -- who took to social media platform X to call out Pate.
Lewerke called out Pate's list as "not very good" and noted that his feedback wasn't just because of Chiles being snubbed. You can see Lewerke's response and Pate's top 10 list in the post below:
As I said above, I also was not a fan of this rankings from Pate. In my opinion, Chiles ranks as at top 10 quarterback in the league, with the potential to be a top five quarterback should he approach his ceiling. Last year, Chiles showed inconsistency but as a first year starter that was expected from him. Ironically, Nebraska's Dylan Raiola had comparable numbers to Chiles and he was ranked as the No. 6 quarterback in Pate's list while Chiles was left off.
These type of lists are not ultimately a big deal and just used for fun offseason discussion. But I enjoyed seeing a former Spartans quarterback looking out for the current guy wearing green-and-white under center.

Michigan State Spartans Impress 3-Star Defensive Lineman Nehemiah Kolone originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Michigan State Spartans hosted a 3-star defensive lineman Nehemiah Kolone for a visit on June 6 and the Stillwater, Okla. had nothing but good things to say about East Lansing. Michigan State Spartans' defensive line coach Legi King/Lansing State Journal/USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images In fact, he canceled his visit with Kansas following his time with the Spartans. Still on his list, BYU is the last school he has scheduled to see. Advertisement Out of his nine offers, Michigan State is within reach of landing the defensive lineman. By the end of June, Kolone hopes to reach a decision between the Spartans, BYU, and Oklahoma State. Kolone is ranked No. 863 overall, according to 247Sports Composite. He's listed as the No. 18 prospect out of Oklahoma and the No. 90 defensive lineman overall. Out of the 12 commits from the class of 2026, the offense is crowding up the most. Kayd Coffman, Joey Caudill, Eddie Whiting, Eli Bickel, Cory House, Collin Campbell, Quinn Buckey, and Braylon Hodge make up the eight recruits on the offensive side of the ball. Defensive tackle Chris Knauls, safeties Eliyjah Caldwell-Hardy and Brayden Thomas, and cornerback K.J. Deriso are the only defensive players to commit so far. Advertisement The Spartans have also extended another offer to a cornerback out of Florida. In the 2024 season, the Spartans' defense was 15th in the Big Ten for average points allowed (26.1) and 10th in their conference for yards allowed per game (332). If head coach Jonathan Smith can land a few more defensemen out of the class of 2026, the near and far future of Michigan State could start an upwards trend. Michigan State Spartans Suffer a Four-Star Decommitment From Safety and Sole Class of 2027 Recruit Khalil Terry
Michigan State Spartans Suffer a Four-Star Decommitment From Safety and Sole Class of 2027 Recruit Khalil Terry originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Michigan State Spartans have upped the ante in regards to their recruitment class of 2026. They now rest at No. 26 overall in the NCAA with their current group of commits. Advertisement Looking well ahead to the group of rising juniors colleges have recently been allowed to legally contact, head coach Jonathan Smith had a class of 2027 commit to put him and the Spartans in good standings for the future. But it's not always smooth sailing, and the Spartans found that out the hard way. Michigan State Spartans head coach Jonathan Capture The four-star prospect from Tustin, Calif. is a well-sought out recruit from his class. Ranked No. 201 overall, No. 21 among safeties, and No. 19 out of California, it's no surprise that Khalil Terry already received 32 offers. Terry committed to the Spartans on Dec. 1, 2024, but with former cornerbacks coach Demetrice Martin leaving for UCLA, Michigan State now lacked a strong tie to Terry's home state. Former Michigan State Spartans cornerbacks coach Demetrice King/Lansing State Journal/USA TODAY NETWORK Whether this was a highly motivating factor for the safety to back down from his commitment or not, Terry announced that he is reopening his commitment. Advertisement "With so many options, and after discussing it with my family, I have decided to de-commit from Michigan State. We feel it is in my best interest to open up my recruitment and take a look at all of my options," he wrote in a post on X. "I only get one shot at this, so I want to make sure I'm making the right decision for the long term." Of his 32 offers as of now, the Spartans will have conference competition with Oregon, Penn State, Ohio State, USC, Washington, and Nebraska for the four-star safety.
