Jeff Bezos shares heartbreak as his mum dies aged 78 following dementia battle

Daily Mirrora day ago
The Bezos Family Foundation announced the news, revealing she passed away peacefully at her Miami home on Thursday August 14 and Jeff has now shared a heartbreaking tribute
Jeff Bezos is mourning the loss of his mother, Jacklyn 'Jackie' Bezos, who has died at the age of 78.

Taking to Instagram he wrote: "Her adulthood started a little bit early when she became my mom at the tender age of 17. That couldn't have been easy, but she made it all work. She pounced on the job of loving me with ferocity, brought my amazing dad onto the team a few years later, and then added my sister and brother to her list of people to love, guard, and nourish. For the rest of her life, that list of people to love never stopped growing. She always gave so much more than she ever asked for.

"After a long fight with Lewy Body Dementia, she passed away today, surrounded by so many of us who loved her — her kids, grandkids, and my dad. I know she felt our love in those final moments. We were all so lucky to be in her life. I hold her safe in my heart forever."

Coronation Street's Carla and Lisa future 'sealed' after sad proposal twist

Coronation Street's Swarla fans were gutted and disappointed to see Carla Connor's planned proposal to Lisa Swain fail on Friday, but what lies ahead for the couple? There was a "disappointing" twist for some Coronation Street fans on Friday night after hoping Carla Connor's planned proposal to Lisa Swain would be a success. But all it took was a comment about Lisa's late wife Becky and Carla halted it all. ‌ While Lisa gave her partner an opportunity to try again, unaware of the plan, having sensed something was up, Carla wasn't feeling it. Clearly disheartened and wanting it to be special, she confided in her nephew Ryan Connor who was on hand to support her. ‌ Ryan told her the proposal would happen at some point, and that she would think of something else. It comes as spoilers had hinted Carla would propose in The Rovers this week, leaving fans hopeful an engagement and then a Swarla wedding would finally happen. ‌ Unfortunately Carla's plan with the ring in a champagne glass had already been done for Lisa years earlier by Becky. This left Carla horrified, abruptly telling barmaid Glenda to stop the plan. The proposal did not happen, but what is next for the pair and will there be wedding bells? It's something that clearly they both want, and cast members including Lisa actress Vicky Myers and Betsy Swain actress Sydney Martin are also hopeful of. They both told The Mirror earlier this year how they'd love to head to Ibiza for a big Swarla wedding, while for now the couple are still finding their feet. The main thing is they are both ready to commit, having grown stronger than ever after recent dramas. With both having planned proposals now, it also means they both want to get married - and it's just a matter of timing. After recent pictures from filming appeared to show Lisa wearing a ring, fans speculated the proposal will come soon given Lisa is meant to have removed the ring from her marriage to Becky. ‌ Whether that is a confirmed engagement or not remains untold, and it's not yet clear when this park scenes will air. As for next week the focus moves away from their relationship and back to drama. That said they remain a united front, amid Lisa digging into what colleague Kit Green is up to and getting a warning from DI Costello, who fans are starting to believe is corrupt. Both Lisa and Carla have been keen to finally figure out what really went on with Becky before her death, so perhaps this is the answers and closure they need to fully move on, and perhaps this will be the marker for their hopefully next and last proposal. So while the storyline focus shifts back to Becky, the police drama, and Carla's chaos at the factory, not forgetting Lisa's bin wars with David Platt, there will be plenty more scenes with this family. The couple will undoubtedly get closer and stronger, and according to Carla's reaction on Friday, Lisa's clear happiness and Ryan's encouraging words, surely there will be a proposal at some point. Strictly Come Dancing's Karen Hauer's 'nasty' confession about ex husband Kevin Clifton

The Strictly Come Dancing professional has now split from her third husband, Jordan Wyn-Jones. Strictly Come Dancing professional Karen Hauer has split from her fitness pro husband, Jordan Wyn-Jones. It comes after the dancer was pictured without her wedding ring last week, just 16 months after the couple married. ‌ Jordan is Karen's third husband, with her first being former dance partner Matthew Hauer and her second fellow Strictly dancer Kevin Clifton who has now been with Stacey Dooley for five years. Karen said she was 'blindsided' by how quickly Kevin moved on in 2018, and was left 'struggling to get out of bed'. ‌ The star described the break-up with Kevin as the 'toughest period of her life' and praised her rescue dog Betty for helping her through the hard times, reports The Mirror. The pair married in 2015 after meeting on the New York leg of long-running live dance show Burn The Floor in 2011. ‌ At the time, Kevin was still with his second wife, ballet dancer Clare Craze, and he had also previously married amateur Latin world champion Anna Melnikova in 2003. According to Kevin, Venezuelan pro dancer Karen was everything he had been looking for. Of that time, he once said: "I wasn't myself - a lot of friends and family were telling me that. It was just a bit of a weird time. When I met Karen, I could get on with her on a completely different level." In 2015, he proposed on stage during a performance of Burn The Floor on Karen's birthday, and they married that same year in London. But looking back, Karen said it might have been too much, too soon, telling Closer magazine: "I don't think we were ready for marriage. We were still growing as performers, as people, as lovers, and sometimes you just can't find the right way to fix things." By 2016, rumours of trouble in paradise were swirling, and Karen recently revealed that their relationship "got really nasty overnight" as she battled with her mounting jealousy. ‌ "It's six years down the line and things started going wrong, just little things, like a phone call, like, 'You didn't call me the whole day'", she told The Divorce Club podcast. Of Kevin's reaction to her challenges, she continued: "Sometimes I would get the 'You're not very kind, you're not very nice' and I was like 'What do you mean? I don't understand.' There were little attacks that we would do to each other." But according to Karen, the rot really set in when she clung on tighter to the marriage amid her own sense of insecurity - a move which only caused more rows. ‌ She explained: "Then the fights, I was getting jealous, but I was only jealous because I wasn't getting the attention that I wanted from my husband and then I didn't understand why so I started gripping, trying to pull him. 'Why are you not doing this? Why are you not doing that?' Exactly what you're not supposed to do, I just wanted answers. And then it just got really nasty overnight." They tried therapy, but Karen said there was "too much anger and emotional baggage" for it to work. And finally, they woke up one morning, looked at each other and 'knew' it was over. "Eventually we both couldn't take it anymore," she added. ‌ Kevin and Karen confirmed their split in early 2018 but continued to work together on Strictly, which understandably made moving on more difficult. Especially as Karen admitted she'd wanted to save their marriage. "I would have never let go of it. I wouldn't have never, never let go of it." She continued. "I would have liked to have fought for it and it took me a year after we separated to actually let go of him. It took me a long time to cut the umbilical cord that I had connected to him. Because it was connected for such a long time and at a completely different level than my first marriage, because this marriage was what I was always looking for." Brooklyn Beckham distressed over claims wife Nicola Peltz 'hasn't backed down for months'

The star is said to be 'excruciated by everything' Brooklyn Beckham has spoken out to quash rumours that his wife Nicola Peltz is controlling him, as close pals reveal his distress over the negative portrayal of his spouse. The eldest child of David and Victoria Beckham is upset by claims that Nicola is unfairly targeted following reports that his family was not invited to their wedding vow renewal ceremony. ‌ An insider commented: "It's so rooted in misogyny that all of the heat for his parents not being invited is on Nicola. Everyone seems to forget that Brooklyn is an adult man and fully capable of speaking out. Nicola would have respected all that he chose. It breaks Brooklyn's heart to see his wife being painted as this vixen and viper." ‌ The 'Lola' star has faced allegations of cutting her husband off from both his relatives and mates. Observers have noted that at the August 2 event, which Nicola's father Nelson officiated, there appeared to be an absence of Brooklyn's extended family and British friends. ‌ While Brooklyn has not officially responded to the controversy, he recently made his feelings clear through social media actions. He liked an Instagram comment from a user who stood up for Nicola. The commenter had stated: "Why is it assumed that she made the decision to exclude them? ... If he really wanted his parents there, they would be." The Mirror has recently reported on the severe rift between David and Victoria Beckham and their daughter-in-law, which resulted in the couple only learning about the vow renewal through online news and photographs, reports the Mirror. Friends of Nicola and Brooklyn have revealed that his siblings Romeo, 22, and Cruz, 20, were also excluded from the event following what they describe as a string of online jibes. ‌ A source commented: "Brooklyn's brothers have been fanning the flames. They've openly made fun of and trolled Brooklyn in comments on social media." However, there are those who question the necessity of ostracising the entire family. Excluded from the August 2 festivities in the US were all the Beckhams - including little sister Harper, as well as grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. An insider confided to the Mirror: "Why punish the whole family for what is essentially a fallout with just the mum and dad?" ‌ It was reportedly difficult to not invite Harper, 14, given her closeness to Brooklyn and the grandparents. A friend remarked: "They are trying to make the best decisions for them in what are very unfortunate circumstances. Navigating family stuff is hard and it's ugly." Despite the current estrangement, the couple maintains hope for mending ties. The same friend added: "The door is open. No one wants to see this kind of pain exist. There is always hope. At the end of the day, blood is thicker than water."
