'I've been to TRNSMT three times - here are my top tips for revellers'
Daily Record09-07-2025
TRNSMT isn't a camping festival but it doesn't mean you shouldn't think ahead and be ready for all eventualities
TRNSMT is fast approaching, with revellers undoubtedly counting down the days until they can burst through the gates of Glasgow Green and enjoy three days packed full of top performances from some of the world's finest acts.
Thousands of music-lovers will flock to Scotland's biggest city for the country's largest music festival from July 11 to July 13 to take in sets from the likes of 50 Cent, Biffy Clyro, Snow Patrol, and Gracie Abrams.
Whether you're a novice gigger or a seasoned festival-head, music events can really take it out of you. Even though TRNSMT isn't a camping festival, it is important to think ahead and ensure you are prepared for all eventualities.
With that in mind, as someone who has gone to TRNSMT countless times since it first launched in 2017, here are some top tips for staying safe and having fun at one of the best events in the Scottish music calendar.
Protect yourself in the sun
Glasgow is predicted to be hotter than Tenerife this weekend, so stay hydrated and lathered in sun cream.
To help tackle the heat at TRNSMT, festival goers are able to bring in handheld fans, small travel-size sun cream, sun glasses and 500ml water bottles that can be filled up at the variety of water stations placed around the site.
Soft collapsible water bottles and folding pouches are allowed but need to be empty on arrival. Music fans won't be allowed to bring in hard plastic, glass or metal containers.
The weather will be partly cloudy at night, so maybe bring a light layer of clothing for when night falls, or a blanket, which will come in handy during the day when you're sitting on the grass, which is another tip.
Make sure to eat
TRNSMT is a long day, so in the middle of chatting to pals, watching your favourite artists, and having a beverage or two, remember to eat. This will help you keep your energy up and stop you feeling faint or sick amidst all the hilarity.
TRNSMT's food and drink menu for 2025 boasts a diverse selection of nearly 60 vendors, as well as a handy map showcasing all the food stalls on offer, so you can schedule some scran in between sets.
The map can be accessed through TRNSMT's official app, and has pins showing exactly where to find your favourites, along with the dietary information for each food vendor. Vegetarians and vegans are accounted for, too.
Identify a meeting point
Phone signal can be dodgy in Glasgow Green so if you've lost your friends as well as reception, establish a meeting point where you can all head to if you need to be reunited.
It could be a landmark like the The Big Wheel, the Main Stage, the Nelson Monument, the Help Point, or just a food vendor you've chosen at random. Whatever it is, ensure everyone in the party knows where to meet if they get lost.
Avoid toilet dramas
Similarly, it is worth doing a recce to see where your nearest Portaloo is to avoid toilet anxiety.
The Site Map will help you locate the nearest toilets, urinals, and accessible toilets to you.
Wet wipes and tissues are allowed into TRNSMT, as are small, travel-size hand sanitisers.
We all know Portaloos can get into a bit of a state as the weekend goes on, so bringing your own supplies is a shout. Also, it might sound silly, but choosing clothes that are easy to take off for the toilet is helpful, too.
Onesies, jumpsuits, dungarees, and bodysuits can be a bit of a nightmare when you're in a confined space!
Use the festival support network
Festival stewards are on site to help you, so don't be worried about asking for help in any situation, whether it's asking for directions or to report something or someone you're worried about.
If you need medical attention, first aid points, marked on the festival map, are staffed with experienced first aiders to help with minor injuries, ailments or mental health concerns.
For more serious concerns, the onsite medical centre is run by qualified A&E doctors and nurses. Ambulances and paramedics are also on standby for emergencies.
If you're feeling overwhelmed and need a calm space to relax, visit the Wellbeing Area away from the crowd.
Phone charging and keeping a note of contact numbers
If your phone battery plummets quicker than expected, just head to a phone charging station, several of which are available at TRNSMT. They can be found around the Nelson Monument and near the BBC Introducing... stage.
Power banks are also allowed into TRNSMT, so definitely bring one in with you. And although it may seem old school, keeping a written note of your friends or family's number is never a bad idea.
As mentioned, signal and battery can drop rapidly at big events, so this is a fail safe way of ensuring that if the worst happens, you can borrow someone's phone or head to the Help Point with someone's number at hand.
