MICHAEL MURPHY'S seamless transition back into inter-county football has come as no surprise to Ryan McHugh.
But when it comes to the only man available at shorter odds than Murphy to claim the Footballer of the Year award,

As for Donegal, Sunday's decider will be their first since the three-point defeat to the Munster kingpins in 2014.
But veteran wing-back McHugh said: 'It'll mean nothing if we can't get over the line.
'Kerry are a top, top team with top, top players and arguably, in my
opinion
anyway, the best player to play the game.

All-Ireland camogie finals – TV details, ticket news and all you need to know about Sunday's deciders

Camogie chiefs have called on fans to flock to GAA headquarters on Sunday for the games as the association strives to emulate the numbers that their Ladies Football counterparts enjoy on their Croke Park finals day. The LGFA, in fact, have echoed this call in attempting to set new records for Camogie's big day out. There is also a call for the many politicians who were vocal in the recent 'Skorts v Shorts' debate to get behind the push for a big crowd at the Dublin venue. Where and when are the games on? All the inter-county camogie finals take place this Sunday August 10 at Croke Park. The first game of an action-packed day will be the Premier Junior final between Laois and Armagh (throw-in at 1pm). Next up is the Intermediate final between Kerry and Offaly (throw-in at 3pm). The Senior final will then take place between Cork and Galway (throw-in at 5.15pm). Where can I get tickets? Tickets for the finals are available through the following link here. Are the matches on TV? Yes, all three games will be shown live on RTÉ 2 and also streamed worldwide on the RTÉ Player. Where can I read more about it?

Ireland coach Scott Bemand: We need the finest talent available

Scott Bemand has defended his decision to parachute two players into the mix for World Cup selection during Ireland's warm-up games. The tournament kicks off for Ireland against Japan on 24 August in Northampton with a 32-player squad due to be announced on Monday, two days after the team's clash with Canada in Belfast. Centre Nancy McGillivray, whose father is Irish but grew up in Hong Kong and previously trained with England, won her first cap and scored a try in last weekend's win over Scotland. Former England prop Ellena Perry, who won the last of 11 Red Roses caps in 2020, is expected to make her Ireland debut off the bench tomorrow at the Affidea Stadium. Neither player was originally included in the 37-strong preparation squad named in May. "As we grow our group, we need the finest talent available both on-pitch play perspective and an-off pitch, character, person perspective in terms of adding to a group," head coach Bemand, who spent years as an assistant with England, said soon after naming his a team containing 10 changes to face the world's number two side. "Elle (above) is a good player, and she's a really good person having worked with her before. She's known to a good few of the girls and they would endorse that. "IQ [Ireland-qualified] is part of our pathway, and this weekend is an opportunity for Elle to put her best foot forward and to put her hand up for selection. "And then absolutely, we would consider players from IQ. "As we grow our squad depth, as we grow our playing pathway, we also have to be cognisant of people that are Irish and identify as being Irish, that play over in the UK, for example. "I think it's been a great opportunity to add to a group both from an on-pitch perspective which is clear to see. "If anybody looks back through England footage, you'll see. I've worked with her in that space before. "Elle has always a highly, highly valued value prop in that system. "A couple of years ago, she picked up a niggle. She's a mother, she has a young child which is class. "So she's brought this sort of wealth of experience and maturity to a group that adds to us. She's been absolutely brilliant. "Yes, I would consider her, but obviously we'll make that call after the game on the weekend." Gloucester-Hartpury's Perry was called up with experienced prop forward Christy Haney recovering from a hamstring issue. Bemand added: "So she joined a couple of weeks ago. "There is a piece of process that players have to go through if they played from one nation to another. "So I guess in terms of playing depth and when this came online, the Christy Haney piece opened up an opportunity for it really. "She would have been available for last week, Elle would have been available to play against Scotland. "We made a choice not to put her into that game, to give her a little bit more time. But she's been with us since the start of block three." Ireland know they will face a step up in class when they host Canada tomorrow and Bemand believes the timing of the fixture can only serve to prepare the side, ranked fifth in the world, for their Pool C games against Japan, Spain and New Zealand. "We probably don't always get the warm-up games that you want because everyone's got different objectives at different times," he said. "Where we sit in proximity to the UK, there's obviously a few teams that are manoeuvring themselves closer to the World Cup. "The flow of the games we've had, going Scotland into Canada, works really well for us. "We had a good hit-out against them in WXV1 not so long ago. "If you look at the results and scoring patterns within that game, we were 21-3 down at half-time, come back and won the second half. "But there were bits we were disappointed about so it's the next challenge on from Scotland, it's really well placed to tee us up for the World Cup."

Inside Micheal Aodh Martin's life as Taoiseach's son announces engagement

The Taoiseach's son Micheál Aodh Martin is getting married to his partner, Maryclaire Fitzpatrick. The son of Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Micheál Aodh announced his engagement to his partner while on holiday in Montenegro — leaving some women heartbroken in its wake, as a few years ago he went viral for being the Taoiseach's 'hot son'. But there's more to Micheál Junior than just his engagement and viral good looks. Micheál Aodh Martin, the son of Taoiseach Micheál Martin. Pic: Eóin Noonan/Sportsfile One of the Taoiseach's five children, Micheál Aodh Martin, is the eldest son of his politician father. His two siblings, Ruairí and Léana, tragically died when they were young — Rúairí aged just five weeks due to SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), and Léana passed away shortly before her eighth birthday of a heart condition in London. Micheál Aodh is a senior manager at PwC, but is best known for being an accomplished GAA goalkeeper — making county and being the starting goalkeeper for Cork, as well as Nemo Rangers. At club level, Micheál Aodh won two Munster Senior Club Football Championships in 2017 and 2019, and won four Cork Premier Senior Championships — the fourth time of which in 2020 when he served as captain. At county level, he also saw honours — winning the Under-21 Munster title in 2014. Micheál Aodh went viral back in 2020, when he became known as the Taoiseach's 'hot son.' Pic: Chris Radburn/PA Wire Micheál Aodh went viral in 2020 when he and his family were photographed voting in the general election, and while politicians voting with their families is almost passé in this day and age, the photo went crazy on Twitter — thanks to Micheál Aodh's looks. At the time, people tweeted about Mr Martin's son, including one writing 'I'm not a fan of Micheál Martin BUT did anyone else see his son on the news there??? MASSIVE fan of him, jayyysus?' 'I'm late to the 'Micheál Martin's Son Is A Ride' party. But I'm here now,' another wrote, while another tweeted 'where has Micheál Martin been hiding his son??' Despite his popularity, his father told the Laughs of Your Life that Micheál Aodh won't be getting a big head; saying that his son got 'an awful slagging from his teammates at the time,' and added that the people of Cork wouldn't let him get a big head, saying 'If you have notions, they'll take you down to size.' Micheál Aodh announced his engagement to his partner, Maryclaire Fitzpatrick, on Thursday. Pic: X/ Micheal Aodh Martin Micheál Aodh popped the question to his partner Maryclaire Fitzpatrick while on holiday in Montenegro, sharing a photo of his now fiancée holding up her engagement ring on his personal Instagram. He later confirmed to EVOKE that he and Maryclaire are getting hitched, joking in the caption of the announcement photo, 'successful summer holiday.' The couple met while studying in UCC, when they were both studying commerce — with Maryclaire being a brand manager for Musgraves. In a statement on Thursday evening, Mr Martin said that he was delighted his son was getting married, saying that he 'wishes them a lifetime of happiness and the very best for the future.'
