Bukit Aman, KL CID join forces in probe into deadly Brickfields, Cheras shootings
KUALA LUMPUR, June 27 — The Bukit Aman and Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Departments (CID) are working together to hunt down suspects linked to two recent fatal shootings at Brickfields and Cheras here.
Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said investigations into both cases are currently ongoing, with the Sarawak CID assisting in checking the motive of the Cheras shooting.
'Photofits by witnesses at the scene of both the shootings cannot be done as the suspects in the (Cheras) case was wearing face masks and helmets (in the Brickfields shooting),' he added.
Two men riding a motorcycle had fired shots at a group of men at a restaurant Jalan Tun Sambanthan, Brickfields, killing one and injuring two at 10.50pm on June 13, while another man was killed in front of a convenience store at Jalan Loke Yew, Cheras on June 16. — Bernama

Besut MRSM Bullying Case: Two More Students Detained As Second Victim Cries Out
JERTIH, June 27 (Bernama) -- Two more students from the Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) in Besut, Kuala Terengganu have been detained by police in connection with an ongoing bullying case at the school. Besut police chief Supt Azamuddin Ahmad @ Abu said the two Form Three students were detained at 4 pm today after presenting themselves at the Besut district police headquarters with their families. "The arrest of the two brings the total number of detained students from the school to seven: six Form Three students and one Form Five student. "Today, five students have been remanded for three days while the two students who were just arrested this evening will be brought to the Kuala Terengganu Magistrate's Court tomorrow to obtain a remand order," he said in a statement today. He said the remand order was issued against all suspects to enable an investigation under Section 147 of the Penal Code (for rioting) to be carried out. In a related development, Azamuddin said yesterday evening his department received a report regarding another Form Two student who was also allegedly a victim in the same incident. "The victim claimed to have been bullied by the same group in the incident that occurred at 11.30 pm on Tuesday at the boarding school's hostel, resulting in pain in both right and left legs." Azamuddin said in a statement yesterday that a Form Two male student at Besut MRSM claimed he was bullied by several seniors in the hostel at 11.30 pm on Tuesday. He said that based on the report by the victim, he was ordered to crouch in a semi-squat position with slippers placed on his head for 40 minutes, punched in the stomach and slapped, causing the victim to experience pain in his stomach and right rib as well as bruises on the back of his body.

Apex court to hear Orang Asli's appeal over desecration of ancestral graves
Rosli Jedut and six other Orang Asli are seeking compensation from Agrobest (M) Sdn Bhd and two employees for the alleged destruction of ancestral graves at Kampung Batu 20, Pekan, eight years ago. PUTRAJAYA : The Federal Court has agreed to hear an appeal by seven Orang Asli villagers from Pekan against a private firm on the alleged destruction of their ancestral graves for agriculture development. Rosli Jedut, Atan Baro, Melah Hamid, Awang Bako, Esah Wir, Kasim Awang, and Majib Kasim filed a lawsuit against Agrobest (M) Sdn Bhd and two employees, seeking compensation after the graves in Kampung Batu 20 were allegedly overrun by bulldozers eight years ago. They claimed the company and employees had disrespected their ancestors and culture. The Kuantan High Court ruled in 2023 that the company was liable for the wrongful act and awarded each of the plaintiffs RM20,000 as damages. However, the appeals court set aside the decision last year, ruling that the seven men lacked the legal standing to file the suit. It said they no longer had possession and control of the land. Lawyers Steven Thiru and Ananthan Moorthi told FMT that a panel of three apex court judges, led by Justice Nordin Hassan, had on Thursday granted the seven men leave to appeal in their bid to reinstate the High Court ruling. Also on the bench hearing the application were Justices Abu Jais Bakar and Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera. 'The Federal Court held that important questions of law were raised concerning the rights of the Orang Asli in Peninsular Malaysia, which required a full determination by the highest court,' they said. The questions of law touch on issues relating to locus standi, the extinguishment of rights, and duty of care. Lawyers Henry Ngok and Ng Si Hui appeared for the company and employees.
