The New York Mills community is paying tribute to Blake Unger, the 18-year-old Homecoming King who was tragically killed in a pickup truck crash just days after graduating from high school.
Unger died at the scene following the crash in Otter Tail County on Tuesday evening, with police finding the vehicle in a ditch and Unger outside the vehicle. The 18-year-old driver has been arrested for DWI and criminal vehicular homicide.
Tributes to Unger reveal him to be a decorated wrestler and football player at New York Mills Public School, where his visitation and memorial will be held on Wednesday, June 4.
A GoFundMe campaign has been created by John Ronning to help the Unger family with their devastating loss, which has raised almost $15,000 in less than 48 hours.
One of Unger's relatives paid tribute on Facebook, saying: "Blake touched so many lives with his kindness, laughter, and huge heart. We welcome all who knew and loved him to come and celebrate the beautiful life he lived."
The New York Mills wrestling and football teams have posted pictures and videos of Unger in action.
"It's with heavy heart that we say goodbye to our big hearted Blake," said New York Mills Wrestling. "Blake had a heart bigger than any wrestling mat. He always took the time to recognize and nurture the youth around him. Your personality and leadership greatly impacted many and will be missed! Once an Eagle, ALWAYS an EAGLE! Fly."
The New York Mills Football team shared video of a game-winning interception Unger made during a game against Breckenridge last season.
"Today, we are shattered to learn of the passing of one of our own. A teammate, a friend, a brother," the team said. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends, teammates, and the entire New York Mills community during this incredibly difficult time."

Bloomfield officer shot during traffic stop dies
Jun. 1—A Bloomfield police officer has died, less than a week after being shot during a traffic stop. At about 10:55 p.m., May 26, Timothy Ontiveros, 32, pulled over Dennis Armenta, 58, for a traffic violation. Armenta refused to roll down his window or provide identification to Ontiveros, Bloomfield Police Department Chief Phillip Francisco said. After over eight minutes of negotiation, Armenta continued to refuse to comply. Officers decided to arrest him for concealing his identity, Francisco said. Armenta was inside his locked car with the windows up, prompting officers to break a window to take him into custody. At that point, Armenta opened fire with a handgun, "hitting Ontiveros and narrowly missing a second officer at the scene," Francisco said. Ontiveros was taken to multiple hospitals before dying in Albuquerque Sunday, he said Sunday. "Officer Ontiveros was a valued member of the Bloomfield Police Department," Francisco said. "In his short time with the agency, he demonstrated kindness, professionalism, and dedication to the safety of the community he served. Ontiveros had been with the Bloomfield Police Department since December. He was also a volunteer firefighter with the Aztec Fire Department. He previously worked for Farmington police. "We are grieving his loss and ask for your prayers and support for the family of Officer Ontiveros and the Bloomfield Police Department as we navigate this tremendous loss," Francisco said. A GoFundMe page was set up to support Ontiveros' family. On the page, family friend Heather Eckhoff described Ontiveros as having a "heart of gold" who loved serving and protecting his community. "I extend my deepest condolences to Officer Ontiveros's family, friends, and fellow officers," Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham said in a statement. "Today, all New Mexicans honor his life, his service, and the sacrifice he made to keep others safe." Funeral arrangements have not been set, Francisco said.

In addition to the U.S. Coast Guard, the New Haven and Branford fire departments responded as well. The crash happened six miles from Tweed Airport. The airport said on a Facebook post that the plane was a Piper Cherokee and confirmed that were two people on board. 'A small aircraft has been reported in the water off the coast of the Town of Branford. The flight's origin and destination are currently unknown,' the post reads. 'The Coast Guard has been notified. The control tower has contacted local authorities. Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting has been activated and is on standby.' Andrew King, a Tweed spokesperson, said the Branford Fire Department launched its water rescue craft. He confirmed that this was not a flight that had departed or was destined for Tweed. 'On its initial course it did not look like (the plane) had any purpose or intent to go to Tweed,' King said. He said he doesn't expect any effects to activity at the airport today. According to AirNav, a data service company that tracks global flights, the plane took off from Bridgeport this morning. The Federal Aviation Administration is also investigating the crash. Community supports Santaquin family that lost father and son days apart
A Santiquin wife and mother says she wants their story to be one of love, not tragedy. Jenn Suiter was married to her husband for 25 years and was 'madly in love' with him. He was killed in a crash on I-15 in Payson just 10 days after the couple buried their son, who died by suicide. 'We are devastated, and there will always be a hole in my heart — but I will live for Christopher,' she said. Chris Suiter, 50, was killed when 19-year-old Riley Durst, of Draper, jumped the median cable on I-15 in Payson from the northbound lanes, entering southbound traffic. Durst and Chris Suiter both died on impact. 'I even named my company True Love Skin Care because (it was) inspired by our love,' Jenn Suiter said. Her son, Brian Suiter, suffered a traumatic brain injury after he broke his neck following a four-wheeling accident, which Jenn Suiter believes is the reason for his suicide. 'Traumatic brain injuries alter your brain in ways that we don't even understand. And when he took his life, I really just believed that it was just a symptom of his brain not working,' she said. Jenn Suiter said in a video statement that the world is filled with love and angels, and angels from both Earth and heaven have supported their family during these challenging times. 'If you knew two things about us, we would always say, 'Never give up, never surrender.' And my son was known for saying, 'Let's go,'' she said. In addition to many donations to a GoFundMe* account to help raise funds for funeral expenses, community members are putting on a benefit concert on June 24 in Payson. * does not assure that money deposited into the account will be applied for the benefit of the persons named as beneficiaries.
