Gyollai leaves Glens for Kolorcity Kazincbarcika

BBC News26-06-2025
Glentoran goalkeeper Daniel Gyollai has left the club to join Hungarian side Kolorcity Kazincbarcika for an undisclosed fee.Gyollai signed for the Glens last summer and his impressive displays saw him named in the NI Football Writers' Association and win Glentoran's Player of the Year award. He made further headlines for scoring a goal in Glentoran's Irish Premiership win over Cliftonville. The former Stoke City, Wigan Athletic and Peterborough United goalkeeper signed a contract extension with the east Belfast club in January until the end of the 2025-26 season but will now return to his native Hungary. "This has been the best year of my football career, and I want to thank everyone at Glentoran for making it so special. From the moment I arrived, I felt part of something special. The fans, the players and the staff welcomed me with open arms and supported me every step of the way," Gyollai told the club's website."Leaving is not an easy decision. I do so with a heavy heart, but my family are in Hungary and the time feels right to return home for personal reasons."Glens boss Declan Devine added: "Dan signed his new contract on the clear understanding that if the opportunity arose to return home to Hungary, we would not stand in his way. His partner, family and closest friends are all based there and this move is purely for personal reasons. That is the only reason."Naturally, we are disappointed to lose him because he has been absolutely exceptional since the day he arrived. For me, he was the best goalkeeper in the league. He leaves with our full support, and we wish Dan nothing but happiness and success as he begins this next chapter back home."

Speaking before Rooney departed Larne on Monday, Magilton said he was impressed with their performance in a scoreless draw away from home and has urged his players to step it up a level from Saturday's draw against the Bannsiders."They (Larne) are an outstanding team, had a wonderful result in Europe in terms of away performance," he told BBC Sport NI."They are going to be fresh and ready for us, but so will we. We're at home, we have to go again and show the same sort of character we showed today and the same tenacity. We have to play better with the ball because we have quality players."We are going to need the backing of our supporters because there will be a few tired bodies."Larne have had the upper hand recently against Cliftonville, winning four of the past league encounters. It'll be another tough game, no question."But the key for us is Shamrock Park. Last year, we made it a difficult place for teams to come, and that's exactly what we want to do again. We want to create a fortress here, somewhere nobody wants to visit."

Performances key for Bangor boss Feeney

Bangor manager Lee Feeney says the nature of his side's performances in their opening two matches of the Irish Premiership season have been pleasing for year's Championship winners began life in the top flight with a 3-1 win over Cliftonville at Clandeboye but were edged out 1-0 by Glentoran at the Oval on up for Feeney's charges is the visit of Crusaders on Tuesday night."The big thing for me is performances. The last two games we have had good performances and that's important to me. "If you can pick up points on the way then that's even better. We'll take the positives, learn from it and grow."I'm really happy with the attitude of the players and proud of the performances they put in."We'll look forward to Crusaders coming to Clandeboye on Tuesday night, which will be another very tough game."Bangor defended resolutely for much of the weekend meeting with the Glens but Ryan Cooney nipped in to score the winner after Kyle Owens' attempted back-pass fell short."It was unfortunate the way we lost with the goal we conceded."They put us under pressure, especially in the first half, but I thought we defended really, really well."We had a good shape, we knew we would have to do that today. Big pitch, we had to try and make it as small as we could. "They have quality all over the park. They were able to play through the thirds, get it wide, so we had to work really, really hard to try and keep the clean sheet."
