Kokua Line: Why such a long wait for permit test?
Answer : No, there isn't a problem with the website that administers the written test online for any eligible person seeking a Hawaii driving permit (it's not limited to teenagers ). To take the test online, an applicant must use an internet-connected desktop or laptop computer with a mouse (or mouse pad-controlled cursor ), keyboard and webcam. Cellphones, tablets or touchscreen devices cannot be used. To take the written test at any time, go to.
There's a longer wait for appointments to take the written test in person at an Oahu driver's licensing center because the DMV offers fewer appointments for this service now that the online option is available. 'Our goal is to keep the wait time for in-office service for the written permit test to one month, ' Harold Nedd, a spokesperson for Honolulu's Department of Customer Services, said in an email.
Be sure to check all convenient locations for an appointment time ; you may have faced a longer wait because you focused on a single location. To be clear, this is about the knowledge test required to obtain a learner's driving permit, not the road test.
As the CSD website explains :
'You may take a learner's permit written test at a driver licensing center by appointment available at. Appointments for in-person written testing will be limited at each driver's licensing center to the following days :

The number of Oahu residents taking the online test has steadily risen since this option was first offered in early December ; 284 people took it that month, 653 in January and 1, 009 in February, according to a news release from the city. City officials are encouraged by the trend, because overseeing the written test in person is a time-consuming task, and having applicants take the test remotely frees up DMV staff for other work, including serving customers who must appear in person.
Q : Did that bill about culling feral chickens pass ?
A : No, the Committee on Agriculture and Environment deferred House Bill 980, HD 1, after a public hearing March 14. The bill would have expanded authority to kill feral chickens on private property, but opponents noted that licensed pest-control companies can already do so, with the permission of the property owner. Mahalo This past weekend I had the misfortune to require emergency medical attention and was taken to the Straub emergency room on King Street. The staff at the ER quickly and efficiently processed me in, and hooked me up to wires and tubes to diagnose my problem. They determined that I needed two units of blood, and I spent four hours getting infused. During this period the staff and nurses checked in on me regularly to make sure I was comfortable and safe. For this I am deeply grateful to the Straub ER staff and want to convey my sincere mahalo to them. But I also want to convey my gratitude to them for another, more important reason : While I was being treated in the ER, an elderly, obese, disheveled homeless woman also came in for emergency treatment. The ER staff treated her with such sincere caring, dignity and compassion. All of us in the community are fortunate to have such dedicated professionals caring for our citizens. 'The Oldest of American Traditions:' Car Experts Say the DMV Knows People Lie About How Much Cars Cost. What If You Get Caught?
A skit about people lying about how much the car they just bought cost is making people on the internet nostalgic. Instagram user Driveway Finds (@driveway_finds) is a page dedicated to car comedy from Dustin Hallinan and John Birto. In a since-deleted video posted on Aug. 1, the duo portrays a personal vehicle sale between friends. Cash in excess of $500 and a car title exchange hands. Meanwhile, a shadowy figure monitors the situation from afar. 'The DMV knowing you aren't buying cars for '$500' but they can't prove it,' reads the on-screen text. Paying Taxes on Used Vehicles Let's take Texas , for example. In the Lone Star state, buyers who buy from private sellers are obligated to pay a 6.25 percent sales tax on either the purchase price or standard presumptive value (SPV). How do you know which one? You guessed it—whichever is higher. How does the state prevent people from doing what's portrayed in the skit? Well, if you tell the DMV that you paid way less than the vehicle is actually worth, you'll have to get the car appraised and pay sales tax on that amount. However, it's important to note that the law exempts certain vehicles from this requirement. Those include New vehicles Vehicles purchased from licensed dealers Vehicles bought at a foreclosure auction Vehicles that are 25 years old Dirt bikes and ATVs Salvaged vehicles Vehicles sold through storage lien Gifts Even-trade vehicles Viewers React to the Skit In the comments section, many viewers vented their frustration with the tax system in the United States. 'There should be no tax the second time something's sold,' wrote one person. 'Stop taxing the same thing over and over.' 'Remember kids: Not paying taxes is the oldest of American traditions,' wrote another user. Others offered strategies for getting around this rule. 'Mine are all $100,' joked one person. A second person simply said, 'Writing 'gift.'' ''Engine blew' is my favorite line,' wrote a third person. Is It a Good Idea to Fib on the Purchase Price? A Reddit user posed this question to r/AskReddit about 15 years ago after agreeing with a private seller to list a lower purchase price of a used vehicle he'd just acquired. 'Has anyone gone through this? What does the DMV catch things like this? What would the consequences be if caught?' the person asked. One person in the comments replied, 'I don't think I have ever heard of a person NOT doing this.' A second person agreed. 'Unless you make it SO obvious that the price you gave is phony, they aren't going to care,' they wrote. But what are the consequences if you do get caught? Well, it depends on where you live and where you purchased the car. In Utah , for instance, car buyers who underreport the purchase price of their used car can be subject to a 100% fraud penalty. That means you'll be required to pay double the amount you underreported. Motor1 reached out to Driveway Finds via Instagram direct message and email for comment. California's Clean Air Vehicle carpool sticker program set to end in September
Drivers of electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids across California will soon lose privileges to drive in the carpool lane solo, as the Clean Air Vehicle Decal program is set to end next month. According to the California Air Resources Board and the Department of Motor Vehicles, the last day to apply for a decal is Aug. 29. Decals will no longer be valid after Sep. 30. Officials said the program is ending due to the federal government not extending authorization for California and other states to issue decals. California officials had originally planned to extend the decal program through 2027. "While the federal government gives the DMV the authority to create the CAVD program, the state must follow federal regulations that are expiring," the agency posted on its website. Beginning Oct. 1, drivers with the stickers must meet posted occupancy requirements to use the carpool lane or risk fines. Along with the end of the privilege of driving in the carpool lane solo, drivers with the stickers will no longer receive discounted tolls. "The federal government's decision to eliminate this smart and popular program will hurt hundreds of thousands of California drivers, and these drivers will have to pay the price," a DMV spokesperson said in a statement to CBS News Bay Area. "It's a lose-lose situation and the state is now looking at other options to provide this service to Californians." Vehicles that are eligible for the stickers include electric, plug-in hybrid and hydrogen-powered cars, trucks and SUVs. California's clean air carpool sticker program dates back more than two decades. In 2004, the state approved issuing stickers to help promote the development of hybrid vehicles, a new technology at the time. The hybrid decals were limited to 85,000 vehicles and the original stickers expired in 2011.
