Quick Summary
The Audio-Technica ATH-CC500BT2 headphones use cartilage conduction technology to transmit sound through each ear's cartilage without block the ear canal.
That means they can be worn and enjoyed while also remaining aware of your immediate surroundings.
Audio-Technica has finally followed-up its "world's first" cartilage conduction headphones with a new model that promises better sound quality, yet still enables you to hear what's going on in the outside world.
The brand has announced the ATH-CC500BT2 pair which, unlike many conventional headphones, provide stereo audio without blocking the ear canal. The open-ear design works by vibrating each ear's cartilage, allowing for sound to be heard without the need for bud insertion or over-ear immersion.
And not only does this mean you can remain more aware of your surroundings, but sound leakage is minimised. Indeed, there's a dedicated Limit Sound Leakage Mode that you can enable when in public places.
The headphones are wireless, with multipoint Bluetooth connectivity, while battery life is an impressive 20 hours of playback time. A 10-minute quick charge through USB-C can also give you up to 120 minutes of extra life.
While there's no active noise cancellation technology on board, of course, there is AI Noise Reduction. That allows your calls to be heard more clearly, with the tech extracting only the speaker's voice from background interference.
Voice assistants are supported, including Siri and Google Assistant, and the ATH-CC500BT2 works with Audio-Technica's Connect app for Android and iPhone to provide different soundscapes and modes.
The entire band is IPX4 rated so is water resistant against rain and light splashes, while a slight generational redesign means the device is more comfortable to wear for a whole day of use.
The Audio-Technica ATH-CC500BT2 headphones are available now, starting at £119 in the UK, €139 in Europe. We're awaiting US and Australian pricing, but at today's exchange rates it equates to around $147 and AU$235 respectively.

The perfect earbuds for your dad (or even you) are just $40 for a limited time
Recently, the staff has been collecting quality Father's Day gift deals — deals for fatherly gifts that you might not otherwise splurge on. One deal, in particular, is for the JBL Vibe Beam at $50, which is $10 less than its already attractive $60 price. They're pretty 'dadly' earbuds (more on that in a moment) and have a super attractive price point for anybody. Tap the button below to go check them out directly yourself or keep reading for our take on what has to be one of the best-priced headphone deals out there at the moment. Why you should buy the (very dadly) JBL Vibe Beam earbuds Hold with me. I'm about to argue that the JBL Vibe Beam are some of the dadliest (no, not deadliest, but good for Dad) earbuds out there right now. But keep an open mind, because they just might be perfect for you, too. The JBL Vibe Beam aim for a deep bass sound, and while that may conjure pictures of young people dancing to the beat, it's also worth noting that it's the higher tones that are the first to go as we age. They're IP54 rated (the buds, at least, the case is IPX2) which means they have enough dust resistance to handle being out in the garage and at least enough water resistance to handle a light rain or the demands of a jog or yard work. Plus, they have a killer battery life, with 8 hours of in-bud battery life and 24 hours of in-case battery life, so if Dad forgets to charge them here and there, it won't render them useless. Finally, it turns out JBL is about 80 years old, which means the brand recognition is already there. These are all arguments for buying the JBL Vibe Beam for your father while they're marked down to $40 instead of $50, but if you want some headphones that you can affordably roughhouse in, they might be right up your alley too. Check them out via the button below or check out our list of the best headphones for more gift ideas.

Google search's AI overviews are awful, but here's a browser extension that gets rid of them
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Among the countless examples of the ever-burgeoning ens***ification of the internet, Google's AI-powered search overviews rank pretty highly. Verily, I pine for the days of reliable, organic search results devoid of AI slop. But don't despair. Well, not entirely. For the editor-in-chief of our sister website, Tom's Hardware, has come up with a browser extension that gets rid of AI overviews from Google search results. Give it up for Avram Piltch and his Bye Bye, Google AI extension. To quote the man himself, Avram says Google, "decided to push AI overviews and AI mode onto search users, regardless of the damage it causes to the user experience or the harm it may inflict on publishers and the entire open web." He also points out that Google is rolling out AI Overviews to ever more territories and countries and fears that Google may eventually want to replace all organic search results with AI Overviews . His solution is the aforementioned Bye, Bye Google AI, which works in Chrome or Edge or any desktop browser that supports Chrome extensions. He's currently working on Firefox and Safari versions. "The extension allows you to hide the AI Overview section from all of your queries and goes a step further, allowing you to hide other areas of the Google SERP that you may not want, such as the videos section, text ads, or 'People Also Ask,'" Avram says. The latest 1.5 version now supports 19 languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Korean, Japanese, Mandarin (Trad + Simplified), Arabic, Hebrew, Urdu, Hindi, Thai, Greek, Italian, Polish, Russian, Dutch, Danish and Portuguese. You can also now hide the AI Mode tab, not just AI Overviews. Avram also explains the other ways to kill the AI Overview, such as adding "-noai" to your search string. But if you want to permanently kill AI Overviews—or at least for as long as this extension works and Google is serving up any organic results at all—then Bye, Bye Google AI feels like a no brainer of an extension. Of course, you could just use another search engine, like DuckDuckGo. Moreover, the seemingly falling quality of Google's organic results isn't fixed by this extension. But if you just want to remove a little AI slop from your daily interneting, then this could be the tool for you.
