Lucknow: Passengers on board Lucknow Junction–Barauni Express (Train No. 15204) complained about low cooling in an AC-2 tier coach when the train was passing through Uttar Pradesh.
However, they were taken by surprise when the railway technician opened the AC duct only to discover that it was stuffed with 316 whisky bottles. The stash included 256 bottles of Officer's Choice and 60 bottles of After Dark Blue whisky, each 180 ml, totalling nearly 57 litres of liquor.
The incident took place on Tuesday and its video went viral. A coach attendant was arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle the liquor bottles to Bihar which is a dry state.
The consignment was found in the duct in the sixth row of the A2 coach. Bottles wrapped in paper sheets were obstructing the airflow above berths 32 and 34.
The onboard GRP team from Basti, which had taken charge of the train at Burhwal Junction, was alerted. When the train reached Basti station, a joint team of GRP and RPF personnel seized the consignment.
Passengers captured the moment on video, with one officer heard exclaiming, "Yeh dekhiye khazana! (Look at this treasure!)".

Basti GRP SHO, Pankaj Kumar Yadav, confirmed the arrest of coach attendant Ashish Kumar, who hails from Khagaria in Bihar.
Ashish admitted to regularly smuggling liquor from Uttar Pradesh to Bihar, where prohibition laws have created a thriving black market. He said he concealed the bottles in the AC duct to avoid detection and sold them at double the price.
Ashish has been booked under Section 60 of the Excise Act and sent to jail.
Interestingly, Ashish's duty was in a different coach, but to guard his illegal whisky consignment, he had moved to AC-2 coach, while the actual coach (identity withheld by TOI) attendant was on leave.

Protests erupt after youth blames cops in suicide note in Anakapalli

Visakhapatnam: The suicide of a youngster, who was allegedly harassed and tortured by police, has sparked a protest in front of Butchayyapeta police station in Anakapalli district. The deceased was identified as M Krishnamurthy (23), a resident of Aithampudi village at Butchayyapeta mandal in Anakapalle district. In his letter, he claimed that he was wrongfully arrested in connection with a theft that occurred on May 28, 2025. Although the actual culprit, Reddy Shivakumar, was arrested, he along with his friend Shiva allegedly conspired with the police to falsely implicate him in the case. He also mentioned that he was tortured with candle burns and beaten up severely and robbed of his money during the interrogation in the case. While he was availing treatment at KG Hospital in Vizag city, Krishnamurthy wrote this letter but no action was taken by the authorities. After being released on bail from prison on Aug 4, Krishnamurthy confronted Shivakumar and Shiva, questioning why he and his family were dragged into a criminal case despite being innocent. Enraged by this confrontation, Shivakumar and Shiva allegedly used their influence to summon Krishnamurthy back to the police station through constable Ganesh and head constable Arjun. The officers reportedly threatened to frame him in another case, he mentioned. Deeply distressed by the continued harassment, Krishnamurthy died by suicide. He mentioned that Shivakumar, Shiva, constable Ganesh and head constable Arjun were responsible for his suicide. The youngster's death triggered protests in his village, with family members and friends demanding that murder charges be filed against the accused. However, the police claimed that the issue has been resolved by the villagers. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). 20-yr-old NCB case: Court allows copies of papers destroyed in fire

Mumbai: After the original case papers were destroyed in a 2013 fire, a special court for Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substances Act on Wednesday granted the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) permission to present secondary evidence or copies of the original documents in a 20-year drug case in which the trial is yet to commence. "NCB has filed the report and affidavit of officer and satisfied that the original record is destroyed due to fire. It is not attributed to the fault of the complainant," said special judge SM Bukke. The order directed the prosecution to conclude the trial within two months. The case deals with the illegal purchase, sale, and dealings of "Bunogesic Injection". Mumbai's NCB inspector said the documents were either misplaced during an office shift or damaged by water from heavy rain. The report stated that the fire broke out due to a defective electric circuit, damaging computers and servers. While the record room was mostly saved from the fire, it suffered minor damage from water logging and smoke during the firefighting efforts. The judge's order noted that under Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, secondary evidence is admissible when original documents are unavailable due to reasons beyond a party's control, such as loss or destruction. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Could This NEW Collagen Blend Finally Reduce Your Cellulite? They contended that NCB had not provided details of the time, date, and manner of the documents' destruction claiming there was no heavy rainfall in the NCB office area. The defence also pointed out that the loss was not proven to be beyond the NCB's negligence or default, and the application should be dismissed.
