Snooker legends meet seaside care home residents
Dennis Taylor and Ken Doherty visited Eversley Lodge Nursing Home in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, to play snooker and share memories with residents.
Their visit came 40 years after Taylor's big win in a memorable black-ball final at the 1985 World Snooker Championship in Sheffield.
"Here we are still loving every minute of it... It's a great bit of fun," Taylor said.
Both players said they were not sure what they were in for when they headed to the home.
"We didn't know what we were coming to, really. When we turned up we were so surprised... What a beautiful place," Taylor said.
Doherty said: "It's brilliant... We haven't done many exhibitions in care homes before.
"A lot of people here would have watched snooker over the years and really enjoyed it, so it's great to see them in such a wonderful environment."
The 1997 world champion reminisced about the last time he visited Norfolk's coastline.
"It's been over 40 years since I was last here playing in the Home Junior International in Hemsby... I've always really enjoyed it here," he said.
The care home's manager, Danielle Bullent, said a lot of work went into setting up the home for the exhibition.
She said it took staff four hours to get the snooker table ready.
Speaking about the anniversary of his championship win, Taylor, famous for his unique "upside-down" glasses, said he was glad people still talked about it.
"Forty years on and people still turn their glasses upside down, raise an imaginary cue above their head and wag their finger at me," he said.
"I hope they keep doing it for many more years to come."

Blackburn Rovers register transfer interest in ex-Birmingham City forward
Blackburn Rovers are interested in striking a deal for VFL Bochum winger Koji Miyoshi. The Lancashire Telegraph understands that, as first reported by Alan Nixon, the Japanese winger is on their list of targets as they look to bolster their wide options. Right-wing is now the priority position in the Blackburn Rovers squad after the signings of Lewis Miller and Axel Henriksson this week. They filled the vacancies at right-back and in attacking midfield. Roves want to add a right-winger before the transfer window shuts with Ryan Hedges their only senior option in that position. Tyrhys Dolan, Andi Weimann and Amario Cozier-Duberry were options there last season and have left the club. READ MORE: Miyoshi has tasted Championship football before and was very popular at Birmingham City. He departed after their relegation to League One and joined German side Bochum having registered six goals and seven assists in 2023/24. They were relegated to the last season and therefore, Miyoshi could be available. Any deal is likely to be the highest outlay of the summer for Rovers for the 28-year-old, who scored once in 15 appearances last term. As previously reported, there is money available to spend and Ismael said that the sale of Callum Brittain should give more 'freedom' in the transfer market too. Rovers have used up all of their ESC slots after the arrival of Henriksson but Miyoshi would qualify for a regular GBE work permit, providing a deal is struck before he plays for Bochum in the second tier of Germany. That was a similar story with Dion De Neve earlier this summer. Cover at centre-back also remains on the agenda for Rovers. Hayden Carter's injury and the need to manage Scott Wharton mean an additional signing in that position has been explored.

Blackpool sign Forest's Taylor on four-year deal
Blackpool have signed forward Dale Taylor from Premier League side Nottingham Forest on a four-year deal with the option of a further year. The 21-year-old has made almost 100 appearances in League One, having had spells on loan with Burton Albion, Wycombe Wanderers and Wigan Athletic, and joins for an undisclosed fee. A Northern Ireland international, Taylor came through Linfield's youth setup before joining Forest in 2020, however, his solitary appearance for the club came in the Carabao Cup against Grimsby Town in August 2022. "I'm absolutely delighted and excited to be here, as it has been a long time in the making. "I have spoken to the manager quite a bit, and where he wants to take this club is very exciting for me and a real inspiration behind the decision to join this massive club." Taylor is the third player Blackpool have paid a fee for so far this summer, in addition to midfielder Jordan Brown and winger Malcolm Ebiowei.
