Lando Norris targets a much-needed win from pole at the Austrian Grand Prix

SPIELBERG, Austria (AP) — Lando Norris is targeting a win to boost his Formula 1 title hopes Sunday after qualifying on pole for the Austrian Grand Prix, his first race since colliding with teammate Oscar Piastri in Canada.
Norris was fastest by more than half a second in qualifying Saturday in a dominant display which seemed to come as a relief to the British driver, who's often struggled to show his best pace in qualifying this year.
Charles Leclerc starts second for Ferrari, with teammate Lewis Hamilton fourth after an unexpectedly competitive day for the Italian team.
Piastri leads Norris by 22 points in the standings and will be right behind his teammate on the grid after the Australian qualified third. Piastri had to abandon his last lap when Alpine's Pierre Gasly spun in front of him and said he was confident of having the pace to challenge on Sunday.
Defending champion Max Verstappen, who's third in the standings, starts seventh on the grid after complaining of a lack of grip in qualifying.

College star Oliver Tarvet wins in Slam debut at Wimbledon and could face Alcaraz next

Oliver Tarvet changed into his University of San Diego gear moments after a straight-set victory in his Grand Slam debut at Wimbledon on Monday. The 21-year-old British qualifier, who is ranked No. 733, beat Leandro Reidi of Switzerland 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. A bigger test awaits the communications major in the second round: he'll play either defending champion Carlos Alcaraz or Fabio Fognini. 'I'm just really overjoyed to be in this situation,' he told the BBC in an on-court interview. 'It's my first tour-level event. To come out here, come through qualifying, and also win first round at Wimbledon, have a chance to play maybe Carlos on Wednesday is just truly incredible. It's just a dream come true.' Tarvet hugged friends moments after his victory on Court No. 4 and took a San Diego cap from one of them. He then changed out of his shirt and donned a T-shirt with a similar 'SD' logo. Collegiately, Tarvet was recently named the West Coast Conference player of the year for the second straight year.

Southend Diving star Todd wins another medal at European Championship

SOUTHEND Diving star Todd Geggus has won another silver medal at the Junior European Championship in Greece Following on from winning a silver medal in the 3m Synchronised diving with teammate Connor Lano, 18-year-old Todd competed in the individual 3m springboard event in Athens. Advertisement The preliminary rounds to qualify for the 12-diver finals got underway on Friday afternoon with 30 divers from 19 countries performing five optional and five voluntary dives. The incredibly strong field of 18-year-olds/under included all the top European juniors including Germany, AIN (Russia - neutral individual divers), Ukraine, and Italy. Todd performed with confidence and assuredness throughout to ensure he made the final fairly comfortably in fourth place, but a few more points adrift of the top three than he liked. In the final, the divers only compete their hardest five optional dives, with Todd having one of the highest tariff/degree of difficulty list of dives in the event. Advertisement Todd stepped up a gear with some great board work and height on his dives and excellent clean finishes. After round three of five, he was in first place with Italy, Ukraine, and two German divers snapping at his heels and fighting to stay with him. Many other divers in the final also had high tariff dives but faltered on one or two of them, gradually leaving Todd and Valerio Mosca of Italy fighting for the gold. On his fourth dive, a reverse 2/ ½ somersaults piked, Todd slightly crimped his knees and lost a few points from the judges for that, allowing the Italian Valerio Mosca to ease ahead of him by 10.65 points. Advertisement Everything rested on the final dive of both boys to decide gold and silver. Todd performed a high-difficulty forward 2½ somersaults piked, with two twists that he absolutely nailed but Valerio also executed his last dive extremely well to retain first place and finally take the gold from Todd by just 3.85 points in an incredibly exciting final. Coach Shan Veasey was ecstatic with Todd's performance, saying, 'Todd demonstrated great coolness and determined consistency throughout the final. 'His concentration was excellent, as were his dives apart from a minor flaw here and there. 'I couldn't have been prouder of him. 'His super score against such high-level opposition is the culmination of some very good performances in the last year, coupled with all the hard work done in training to develop new dives and to consolidate them in time for this prestigious European Junior Championships.'

England unchanged for second Test against India

England have named an unchanged team for the second Test against India, set to begin on Wednesday at Edgbaston, with fast bowler Jofra Archer remaining sidelined. The England and Wales Cricket Board retained the lineup that secured a five-wicket win at Headingley to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. Archer, who was added to England's test set-up last week for the first time since 2021, missed training on Monday due to a family emergency, British media reports said. The 30-year-old was called into the squad following England's thrilling five-wicket victory in the opening Test at Headingley last week. He has not played Test cricket since February 2021 and played his first red-ball match in four years in Sussex's County Championship draw against Durham in Chester-le-Street last week. Archer is expected to rejoin the squad on Tuesday. England will look to take a 2-0 series lead over India with victory but the home side have had a mixed bag of results at the Birmingham venue over the last five years. A defeat by New Zealand in 2021 along with a pair of Ashes losses to Australia in 2019 and 2023 show it could be tough work for England. ENGLAND XI v INDIA: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (capt), Jamie Smith (wk), Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue, Shoaib Bashir.
