Martin Scorsese Swears Off Theaters Because Of Obnoxious Moviegoers
NEW YORK, NEW YORK - JANUARY 23: Martin Scorsese attends Reel Pieces With Annette Insdorf: Martin ... More Scorsese at The 92nd Street Y, New York on January 23, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by) Director Martin Scorsese is reportedly done with going to see movies in public because of the behavior of audiences in theaters. Scorsese, of course, is the legendary filmmaker behind such film classics as Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Casino, Gangs of New York, Hugo and The Irishman. Scorsese also won his first and only Oscar for Best Director for the 2006 Best Picture Oscar winner The Departed. More recently, Scorsese's 2023 historical crime epic Killers of the Flower Moon was nominated for 10 Oscars but came away from the ceremony empty-handed. In a recent conversation with Peter Travers for The Travers Take, Scorsese told the longtime ABC News and Rolling Stone film critic why he was finished seeing movies in theaters. 'I asked the maestro why he doesn't see movies in theatres anymore and he went all raging bull about audiences who babble on phones during the movie, leave to order snacks and vats of soda, and keep up a noise level loud enough to drown out the actors,' Travers wrote (via The Guardian). Travers noted that he pointed out to Scorsese how 'we couldn't keep our mouths shut when we were kids' when they went to movies, to which he said the filmmaker replied, ''Yeah, maybe,' he conceded, 'but when we talked it was always about the movie and the fun we had chewing over the details.'' (Photo byfor Tribeca Festival) While Martin Scorsese voiced what is likely the overwhelming sentiment of people who go to theaters to simply enjoy movies, he's also expressed opinions about cinema culture in the past that have not been as popular. In 2019, Scorsese told Empire Magazine (via Variety) that he 'tried' to watch Marvel movies, but concluded, 'That's not cinema.' 'Honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks,' Scorsese told Empire. 'It isn't the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being.' Scorsese recently appeared in a cameo role as himself in Apple TV+'s movie business satire The Studio. Among the director's upcoming films is an untitled Hawaii-set crime thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Emily Blunt and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson. In addition, Martin Scorese is set to be the subject of an upcoming Apple TV+ docuseries Mr. Scorese, which is being directed by Rebecca Miller.

Major Movie Star Confesses to an Unbelievable Revenge Plot Involving Sending Gorilla Poop to a Man Who Broke Her Friend's Heart
Major Movie Star Confesses to an Unbelievable Revenge Plot Involving Sending Gorilla Poop to a Man Who Broke Her Friend's Heart originally appeared on Parade. During a new lie detector test with Vanity Fair, released on Thursday, June 5, didn't hold back. The polygraph interview, her second with the publication, quickly took a surprising turn when the questions shifted to her loyalty. After establishing that she would lie to the police to protect her "lifelong" friend, actress , the interrogator upped the ante with a very specific, and very messy, examiner asked Johnson to confirm if she had "once sent a man who broke your friend's heart a gallon of gorilla [poop]." Without missing a beat, a smiling star of The Materialists confessed. 'I mean, there's no way that he would watch this, so, yes, I did do that,' she admitted, adding context that the vengeful act wasn't a recent affair. 'And it's been quite a while. It's been some years.' The off-camera interrogator, seemingly speaking for everyone watching, had to know more about the logistics. 'How would one order something like that? Asking for a friend,' he inquired. Johnson, ever helpful, was happy to share her source. Her go-to website for such a unique delivery is a service that specializes in mailing various types of animal feces. 'You can order any kind, any size,' the Madame Web star explained, a statement the polygrapher confirmed was 'truthful.' While her methods may be unconventional, the act stems from a place of deep loyalty, a theme that ran through the interview. In one segment of the video, she talked about meeting her friend Riley Keough at an In-N-Out Burger and affirmed her unwavering support for her friends. However, Johnson does have her limits. When asked if she also knew how to "order pubic crabs online," she drew the line with a laugh. 'No! Good Lord, I'm not a monster,' she exclaimed. The Fifty Shades of Grey star, who recently navigated her own public split from Coldplay frontman Chris Martin after a long-term relationship, did not disclose the identity of the friend she so fiercely defended. This latest polygraph session also saw her touch on her need for at least 10 hours of sleep, her preference for baths, and her past as a member of a band humorously named "Folky Porn." The entire interview paints a picture of an actress who, despite her private nature, is willing to get her hands dirty—or at least click "add to cart"—for the people she loves. Ryan Coogler Confirms Denzel Washington Has a Part in 'Black Panther 3'
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors Back in March, "Sinners" director Ryan Coogler reacted to Denzel Washington's public statements about appearing in "Black Panther 3" and while it was something Coogler seemed excited about, he stopped just shy of confirming it. Now, Coogler has confirmed not only that he has talked to Washington about showing up in "Black Panther 3", but that he has written a role specifically for the two-time Oscar-winning star. Read More: James Gunn Wants Peacemaker to Fight Batman Appearing on "7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony", Coogler was asked if there had been conversations with Washington or if he was writing a role specifically for the actor. Coogler's answer: "All of that. All of the above, bro." Denzel Washington poses at the opening night after party for "Othello" on Broadway at Tavern on The Green on March 23, 2025 in New York City. Bruce Glikas/WireImage He went on to praise Washington, saying, "I think he's the greatest living actor. And in terms of what he means to our culture, forget about it. I've been talking to him about this for a long time." Coogler's confirmation that he's written a part for Washington shouldn't be too much of a surprise. Back in March, Coogler said "Yeah, I've been dying to work with Denzel, man, and I'm hoping we can make that happen." "I have every intention of working with him in ['Black Panther 3']. As long as he itches to do it, it's gonna happen. You know, he's a living legend and a great mentor for so many of us. He's all about looking out for us now." As far as who exactly Denzel Washington would play in "Black Panther 3", Coogler is keeping that to himself. That hasn't stopped fans from speculating, of course, with some even guessing his character might be from another part of Marvel's multiverse and could be a variant of T'Challa's father T'Chaka, or perhaps even T'Challa himself. One popular fan-casting is the villain Achebe, who was created as a kind of eccentric mix between Kaiser Soze of "The Usual Suspects" fame and the Joker. Not possessed of any special abilities, Achebe instead manipulates his ways into political power in Wakanda. Very little is known about "Black Panther 3" including whether or not it has a firm release date. Letitia Wright is expected to reprise the role of Shuri for the film, potentially appearing alongside Denzel Washington.
