According to Auto Express, Smart has left the door open for the return of the Smart Roadster - with the brand preparing a successor for its famous ForTwo city car.
Indeed, back in March, we reported on how the much-loved ForTwo - the quintessential 'park anywhere' city car of the noughties -
That could spell good
news
for the Roadster model too, a two-door, two-seater convertible that was Smart's sports car offering at the time.
Introduced back in 2003, it was widely respected for its balanced mid-engined layout - with iconic F1 designer Gordon Murray a famous fan who used the Roadster as his daily driver.

The model was ultimately discontinued in November 2005, with just over 43,000 units produced.
In a recent interview, Smart UK CEO Jason Allbutt talked fondly about the Roadster, saying: 'We used to have one of those in the family, and [it was] particularly good fun.
'For a country that has more rain than probably any other European market, we are lovers of coupés and roadsters.
'So yes, I could see a possibility for such a car in the UK.'

Allbutt did however reiterate that nothing is concrete and that the brand currently focussed on the launch of its biggest model yet - the all-new Smart #5 SUV - with an electric family hatchback called Smart #6 to follow.

Even the aforementioned MX-5 is being earmarked for an electric replacement in the coming years.
But according to Auto Express, Allbutt appears to have reservations about whether petrolheads are ready to embrace electric convertibles.

Ireland is seventh most expensive country for mortgages in the eurozone
IRELAND IS THE seventh most expensive country in the euro area to take out a mortgage despite falling interest rates, according to Central Bank statistics released today. The Irish average mortgage rate is the lowest it has been since April 2023. However, as rates fall faster elsewhere, Ireland has climbed one place higher in the rankings of most expensive eurozone countries to take out a mortgage. The average interest rate on new Irish mortgage agreements was 3.6% at the end of June, in comparison to the eurozone average of 3.29%. Trevor Grant, chairperson of Irish Mortgage Advisors, said the rules imposed on Irish lenders are contributing to Ireland being one of the more expensive countries in the eurozone for home loans. He said: 'Irish lenders are required to hold more capital than many of their European peers. Also, when a borrower defaults on a mortgage, Irish lenders have stated that they often find it more difficult than other European lenders to take control of and sell off the assets that were pledged as collateral to secure the mortgage.' Grant advised mortgage borrowers to avoid making large financial decisions in the hope that interest rates will further drop. Advertisement He said the pace of further mortgage rate cuts is likely to 'slow or even come to an end' due to the European Central Bank's decision to pause rate cuts last month . Instead, he advised borrowers to asses their mortgage options and secure a strong mortgage deal now. Grant said there is 'still room for improvement' and competition is slowly bringing down interest rates. 'There is still plenty of competition out there amongst lenders and for borrowers to take advantage of. Some lenders started offering sub-3% mortgage rates this summer, which represented a significant milestone for Irish borrowers and should lead to substantial savings for homeowners and house buyers,' he said. 'Borrowers, however, need to be proactive. Customer apathy means many are paying more for their mortgage than they need to. Now is the time to assess your mortgage options carefully. The window for securing a strong deal is open, especially as lenders continue to price more competitively.' Colin Rockett, Senior Mortgage Advisor with NFP Ireland, said the interest rate reductions in Ireland are 'modest and not fast enough to keep pace with wider eurozone trends'. He warned that the 15% tariffs on most imports from the EU to the US could push up inflation in Ireland and across the EU, which may cause an increase in ECB interest rates in the coming years. A rise in ECB interest rates means mortgage borrowers could come under pressure. Rockett advised borrowers to speak with advisors about potential savings on their current mortgage through switching or locking in better terms. British BMX trickster Kriss Kyle ‘puts mum and dad through hell' even before epic never-seen-before stunt with F1 car
KRISS KYLE admitted he put his parents 'through hell' - even before he decided to risk death by 'playing chicken with an F1 car'. Kyle had the crazy idea two years ago and teamed up with sponsors Red Bull to make 'Can He Hop It?' happen, with the company providing Sebastian Vettel's 2011 title-winning RB7 V12 model motor plus the precision timings, given to the rider by a beep in his ear. After seven months of training, much of it centred around strengthening his legs including looking like a 'nutcase' walking the dog in a weighted vest, the initial date had to be aborted due to strong winds. So a back-up date was set at Goodwood, where - despite still some significant wind - Kyle had a 30-minute window and one take to pull off his monumental feat on the custom-built one-off titanium and carbon fibre bike. Kyle got into BMX-ing through his older brother and moved out of the family home in Stranraer at 14 without any qualifications, sofa-surfing 100 miles away in Dumbarton as the police tried to take them to court over his non-existent school attendance. Then unbeknownst to his parents, he spent a year illegally living in the Unit 23 Skatepark - with rats for housemates and sweets for meals. Kyle explained: 'It was like super, super scary being in there by yourself. 'It was like a horror movie. 'F***, the amount of s*** I'd hear in there. I hated it. 'I lived there for a year by myself. One night I remember a rat ran over me. No joke, it was the size of cat. And it has certainly given him - and his loved ones - some hair-raising moments through the years. Kyle, who has escaped relatively unscathed by only breaking his ankle, toes, ribs and thumb, added: 'It's my job to think of these crazy ideas that no one's done before. 'I skated in a floating skatepark 2,000ft in the air in a hot-air balloon and jumped out of a helicopter on to the top of the Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai. 'I put my mum and dad through hell. I actually do. 'After the F1 car, my mum called me and was crying when I told her that I'd done it. 'When I'd done the skate park in the sky, she was crying then as well. I forgot to call her when I landed and she thought I was dead. 'I put my wife through hell as well. And I've got a 16-month-old son now as well.
