Multiple Grade 1 winner White Abarrio will make his next start in the G1 Pacific Classic at Del Mar on Aug. 30, reports Daily Racing Form.'I think the pace setup will be more favorable to him,' part-owner Mark Cornett explained to DRF's David Grening about the decision to point to the Pacific Classic, rather than the G1 Jockey Club Gold Cup on Aug. 31 at Saratoga. 'They've got a long run going into the first turn, and he gets an out over the surface.'
The 10-furlong Pacific Classic is a 'Win and You're In' for the Breeders' Cup Classic, which will be run over the same course and distance on Nov. 1.Cornett told the publication that White Abarrio will remain in California to prepare for this year's Breeders' Cup after the Pacific Classic.Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. will ride White Abarrio in the Pacific Classic if he does not have any other commitments on Aug. 30; if Ortiz is unavailable, White Abarrio will be ridden by Tyler Gaffalione, Cornett told Grening.
White Abarrio comes into the Pacific Classic after back-to-back fourth-place finishes in the G1 Whitney and G1 Met Mile, both at Saratoga. The 6-year-old son of Race Day won this year's G1 Pegasus World Cup and the 2023 Breeders' Cup Classic.Read more at drf.com.
