Chris Duncan vs. Mateusz Rebecki prediction, pick, start time for UFC on ESPN 71

USA Today5 days ago
Chris Duncan and Mateusz Rebecki meet Saturday in the co-main event of UFC on ESPN 71 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom.
Last event: 2-3
UFC main cards, 2025: 72-56-1
Chris Duncan vs. Mateusz Rebecki UFC on ESPN 71 preview
Duncan (13-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC) enters his first UFC co-feature while on a two-fight winning streak. In back-to-back fights, Duncan finished Bolaji Oki and Jordan Vucenic with guillotine chokes in the first and second rounds, respectively. The Dana White's Contender Series veteran won his first pair of UFC fights before his second career setback last February against Manuel Torres. ... Like Duncan, Rebecki (20-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC) enters his first co-main event in the UFC and shares an identical record in the promotion. Rebecki comes in after a split decision nod over Myktybek Orolbai at UFC 208 in October. Prior to that, he was finished by Diego Ferreira for his second career loss, which snapped a 16-fight winning streak.
Chris Duncan vs. Mateusz Rebecki UFC on ESPN 71 expert pick, prediction
The co-main event on ESPN features a lightweight action fight between Chris Duncan and Mateusz Rebecki.
A Polish product who was more than UFC-ready prior to his Contender Series debut, Rebecki has proven to be all gas since setting foot in the octagon.
A southpaw pressure fighter who can wrestle and grapple, Rebecki presents a formidable archetype that is difficult to deal with, especially early.
Duncan, who has surprised many during his recent run, has shown undeniable improvements since moving shop to American Top Team in South Florida. Although Duncan is officially 0-0 against UFC-level lefties, he works with legendary southpaws that range from Dustin Poirier to Gleison Tibau.
Although Duncan getting iced early on the feet or worked over on the floor is the most likely outcome on paper, I suspect that the Scottish fighter presents serious threats in closed quarters.
Add in the size edge for the Scot and the fact that Rebecki has a propensity to fight recklessly and fade, and I find myself leaning toward the underdog in this spot.
The pick is Duncan by club-and-sub in Round 2.
Chris Duncan vs. Mateusz Rebecki UFC on ESPN 71 odds
The oddsmakers and the public are favoring the Polish fighter, listing Rebecki -220 and Duncan +176 via FanDuel.
Chris Duncan vs. Mateusz Rebecki UFC on ESPN 71 start time, how to watch
As the co-main event, Duncan and Rebecki are expected to walk to the cage at approximately 11:10 p.m. ET. The fight broadcasts live on ESPN and streams on ESPN+.

Henry Cejudo: Winner of Lerone Murphy vs. Aaron Pico beats Alexander Volkanovski

Henry Cejudo has very high hopes for the winner of Lerone Murphy vs. Aaron Pico at UFC 319. Murphy (16-0-1 MMA, 8-0-1 UFC) welcomes Pico (13-4 MMA, 0-0 UFC) to the octagon in the Aug. 16 co-main event at United Center in Chicago (ESPN+, ESPN, pay-per-view). Cejudo is touting the winner of that fight to dethrone UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski (27-5 MMA, 14-4 UFC), a take that left his co-host Kamaru Usman completely baffled. "I personally feel like the winner of this fight is going to fight Alexander Volkanovski, and I also feel like the winner of this fight is going to become our next champion," Cejudo said on his "Pound 4 Pound" podcast with Kamaru Usman. "All due respect to Volk, but these young guns – Lerone Murphy is fighting Aaron Pico. Aaron Pico is in his f*cking prime – power, wrestling. "He's been a man child since he was a kid, already competing at the highest levels while in high school beating world champions. Then Lerone Murphy, what he's been able to do to a lot of these fighters – undefeated, very tricky, brings in a lot of the wrestling. He's just different. He's like a Merab (Dvalishvili) – they're pretty unpredictable, and how is it he's able to use that wrestling. I think this co-main event is the most competitive fight on this whole fight card." Pico is a slight favorite to hand Murphy his first career loss, and Cejudo sees that happening. "Honestly, I've got Aaron Pico," Cejudo said.

Payton Talbott teases UFC fight news: 'I'm going to get what I wished for'

Payton Talbott thinks dropped a name in the octagon to Joe Rogan after his UFC 317 win over Felipe Lima in June, and now it might become a reality. After bouncing back from his first career loss with a unanimous decision over Lima during International Fight Week, Talbott (10-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) called for a showdown with fellow bantamweight striking Adrian Yanez (17-6 MMA, 6-3 UFC) for later this year. According to Talbott, UFC matchmakers are seemingly into his idea, and it might not be long before the fight is officially offered and signed. "I think I'm going to get what I wished for," Talbott told MMA Junkie Radio. "Things are looking good for that. Hopefully November, Madison Square Garden, and things should be good for then. We're definitely working on it." Talbott, 26, was touted as one of MMA's brightest prospects prior to losing his unbeaten record to Raoni Barcelos at UFC 311 in January. He's back on track now, though, and a matchup with Yanez would provide the opportunity to build more momentum toward where he wants to be – at the top. "I think if I keep doing my job right," Talbott said. "Keep putting my head down and staying focused, it could be around two-and-a-half years, two years (until I'm champion)."
