Rachakonda police bust interstate drug racket; seize Hashish oil worth Rs.1.2 cr
Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Special Operation Teams LB Nagar zone along with Abdullapurmet police apprehended two interstate drug peddlers on Wednesday. Police seized 20 kg of Hashish oil worth Rs 1.20 crore.
The police arrested Pangi Keshava Rao alias Kesha (40) of Ramaraju Dist. AP and Jairam Khemundu (26) of Koraput district, Odisha and seized 20 kg Hashish, three mobile phones and cash of Rs 870.
According to police, both the accused were friends who got involved in drug trafficking to earn easy money. They were found to be procuring Hashish Oil from Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, transporting it via Hyderabad to supply buyers in Bengaluru. Hyderabad was being used as a transit route.
Rachakonda police commissioner G Sudheer Babu said that the investigation revealed that Krishna of Alluri Sita Ramaraju Dist., AP who is currently absconding, is the main source and a childhood friend of Keshava introduced him to the illicit drug trade, with a promise of huge profits.
Jairam later became acquainted with Krishna and joined the illegal activity. The accused Keshava had been previously arrested in a NDPS case by Anakapally Town Police, Andhra Pradesh.
The accused persons were purchasing Hashish Oil at a low price and selling it to buyers in Bangalore for huge profits, nearly 10 times the procurement rate. It is learnt that approximately 35 to 40 kg of Ganja is used for making 1 kg of Hashish Oil.
'Two days prior to the arrest, a buyer from Bengaluru placed an order for 20 kg of Hash Oil to the accused. Accordingly, both the accused persons procured the 20 kg of Hashish Oil from Krishna at Hukumpeta, Alluri Sita Ramaraju District of Andhra Pradesh and reached the outskirts of Hyderabad to sell the Hashish Oil to a Bangalore-based party,' said Sudheer Babu.

The son of an AAP councillor in Ludhiana allegedly received an extortion call and the unidentified killer threatened to kill him and his family if he fails to pay Rs 1 crore ransom. The number from which the call came has been sent to Cyber cell for identification.

Police, excise nabbed 19k drug offenders this year across Kerala
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A whopping 19,168 people have been arrested so far this year for drug-related offences, while a staggering 18,427 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act have been registered in the special anti-drug drives of the police and excise departments. The numbers, said officials, indicate that drug abuse has become a huge threat for the state. Until June 11, the police registered 16,125 cases and arrested 16,953 people in the four months since the launch of their ongoing anti-drug drive 'D-Hunt' on February 22. The excise department registered 2,302 cases of drug peddling and consumption and arrested 2,215 people in the 70 days of its special drive, 'Clean Slate', the first phase of which was held from March 5 to 12, while the second, launched on April 21, is currently on. A total 1,680 kg of ganja and 8.7 kg of MDMA were seized collectively. In comparison, there were 35,690 NDPS cases registered last year – 27,530 by the police and 8,160 by excise sleuths. At the current rate, the number of cases will cross 50,000 if the special drives continue for a year. Sources from both departments said the detection rate of cases reveals drug addiction has risen at an alarming rate. 'Drug abuse has become a big threat,' said a senior police officer. However, there is a silver lining. 'One good thing is through the special drive, we busted several clandestine drug rackets. We have enhanced the deterrence value through sustained operations and pushed the rackets on the back foot. We are sensing some reluctance on the part of ringleaders, who operate from outside the state, in sending consignments to Kerala,' the cop said. While 'D-Hunt' will run till the end of the month, the excise department is expected to continue 'Clean Slate' further. Highly-placed sources said the state government might announce a new action plan later this month and both departments will be charting out new measures to counter drug supply and abuse. Google sues LATAM Airlines in U.S. over Brazilian YouTube video dispute
Google sued Chile-based LATAM Airlines in U.S. federal court on Thursday, seeking a declaration that Brazilian courts cannot force the tech giant to take down a YouTube video in the U.S. that accused a LATAM employee of sexually abusing a child. Alphabet's Google, which owns YouTube, said in the lawsuit that LATAM was attempting to "make an end-run" around protections for free speech under the U.S. Constitution by suing in Brazil to force the video's removal worldwide. "LATAM has not received any official communication about the court case," the company told Reuters. Google spokesperson Jose Castaneda said in a statement that the company has "long supported the legal principle that courts in a country have jurisdiction over content available in that country, but not over what content should be available in other countries." Right-wing social media companies Trump Media and Rumble filed a similar lawsuit in Florida in February against a Brazilian judge who had ordered them to remove the U.S.-based accounts of a leading supporter of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. A federal judge decided in the case that the companies were not required to comply with the order in the United States. According to Google's lawsuit filed in San Jose, California, U.S. citizen and Florida resident Raymond Moreira posted two YouTube videos in 2018 of his 6-year-old son outlining allegations of sexual abuse that the child said he experienced from a LATAM employee while traveling as an unaccompanied minor. Moreira sued LATAM in Florida in 2020 over the alleged abuse, which led to a confidential settlement. LATAM sued Google in Brazil in 2018 seeking an order to remove the video from YouTube. Brazil's highest court is set to consider next week whether it has the authority to order Google to take down the video worldwide. Google asked the court in California on Thursday to declare that LATAM cannot force the tech giant to remove the video in the United States. Canada's Supreme Court upheld an order for Google to remove some search results worldwide in a separate case in 2018. A California judge halted that order's U.S. enforcement in 2017.
