VIJAYWADA: A political storm has erupted in Andhra Pradesh after placards displayed at a rally led by former chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy referenced violent language and controversial slogans.
Supporters at the rally in Rentapalla village, Palnadu district, were seen carrying signs proclaiming the start of a 'Raja Reddy constitution' and threatening to 'chop off the heads of political opponents one by one just like chopping the heads during animal sacrifice ceremony in Gangamma Thalli Jathara (Rappa Rappa narukutham),' a line from the upcoming film

When questioned, Jagan Mohan Reddy appeared to downplay the slogans, saying in a press conference,
'What is wrong in displaying a dialogue from the
Pushpa
movie,' prompting swift backlash from the ruling TDP.
Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu said the incident revealed the 'criminal mindset' of the opposition. 'Politicians used to hesitate even to be seen with people with criminal background but now we have an opposition which is doing politics with only criminals,' he said, referencing the 2019 murder of Jagan's uncle, Y S Vivekananda Reddy.

No reply from Azerbaijan, Kol prof heads to Armenia
1 2 Kolkata: After waiting for four days for the migration code from the Azerbaijan authorities, Falguni Dey, the geography professor from Kolkata who travelled 1,000 km from Tehran to reach Astara, will now have to head towards Armenia, where Indian nationals are being allowed to cross the border. Dey left Tehran on Sunday in a car and travelled for nearly 40 hours to reach Astara. While he escaped the war-ravaged Tehran along with thousands of Iranians and foreign nationals, he had applied for the e-visa with the Azerbaijan authorities. He initially planned to move to Baku after crossing the border and catch a flight to India from there. "Azerbaijan was allowing US and Russian nationals to cross the border via Astara. There was no bar for Indian nationals. I presumed they would allow Indians too and waited for their approval. But it seems that the permission has got stuck in diplomatic tangles," he said. On Friday, an exasperated Dey sounded helpless. "I needed a migration code for my e-visa application. Four days have passed since I applied. My family members and friends are doing whatever they can," he said. On Thursday, Dey got help from a tourist who offered to share his room at a hotel, a few kilometres from the Astara border. Dey, who spent nights at mosques and govt office lobbies over the past couple of days, had the chance to sleep on a bed. "The days are getting long, and the wait seems endless. I am trying to adapt myself to the new reality. There isn't anything else I can do now," he said. On Thursday, Dey filed documents for the e-visa with the Armenian authorities. "The Nurduz-Agarak area in Iran is around 450 km from Astara. I don't have cash, and I am clueless about paying for a car to drive me there. But I have to take a chance and get out of Iran anyhow," he said.

TMC, BJP spar over Bengal foundation day
Kolkata: Trinamool and BJP clashed on Friday over Bengal foundation day. Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar alleged that police tried to stop a two-wheeler rally led by him from reaching Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's residence on Elgin Road. TMC criticised BJP, saying that the saffron party attempted to force a celebration that lacked spontaneity and with which people have no association. Centre has notified June 20 as statehood day in Bengal. Bengal govt has passed a resolution in the assembly and identified Poila Baisakh, the Bengali New Year's Day, for celebrating West Bengal Day.
