Soundgarden's Ben Shepherd Teases Unreleased Album in Chris Cornell Tribute Post
Eight years on from the unexpected passing of Chris Cornell, Soundgarden's Ben Shepherd has teased the release of an unreleased album of new material in a tribute post to his late bandmate.
In the post shared on Saturday (May 17), Shepherd reflected on the legacy of Cornell, noting he had been reflecting on an unheard song written by the late musician alongside drummer Matt Cameron. 'Its a song Chris and Matt wrote 'The Road Less Traveled' for our album that has yet to be named,' he explained.

'Just hearing Chris' voice helps, I know he did that for everyone he knew… help them, he did for me, filled with self doubt and indebtedness and in just his tone knew what I was going through and forgave me like he always did even when he was older,' Shepherd continued. 'It's at this point of recording all of our previous albums I'd get this overwhelming hit of awe, camaraderie, power of creativity, majesty even, and love, from the music, and my bandmates… and I guess just pure life force.'
Soundgarden disbanded following Cornell's passing on May 17, 2017, though they have since performed on a handful of occasions with guest vocalists. Most recently, they performed as Nudedragons in December 2024, with Shaina Shepherd on vocal duties.
In 2023, the surviving members of Soundgarden reached an 'amicable out of court' agreement with Cornell's widow Vicky to end a four-year legal battle centered around seven unreleased audio recordings made by the singer before his death.
Upon the conclusion of the legal dispute, the band noted that their newfound 'reconciliation marks a new partnership between the two parties, which will allow Soundgarden fans around the world to hear the final songs that the band and Chris were working on.' To date, no further update has been given in regard to when this unheard music may arrive.
In April, Soundgarden were one of the many acts announced as the 2025 inductees into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Speaking to Billboard, guitarist Kim Thayil said he feels confident Cornell would 'definitely be stoked' about the induction.
'He's the one who convinced me how appreciative the fans and our peers and the Soundgarden community — that includes the people that we work with and work for us — would be about it,' Thayil explained. 'He realized how important that was, and he understood that would be important to us because it's important to people who cared about us and helped us and supported us all along.
'That's how I believe Chris would respond to this. I think he'd be very appreciative and thankful to all the people who have believed in him and believed in the work he did and the work that we all did, collectively.'
The 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction will be live on Saturday, Nov. 8 at the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live in Los Angeles. The 2025 ceremony will once again stream live on Disney+, with a special airing on ABC at a later date and available on Hulu the next day. It currently remains to be seen whether the surviving members of Soundgarden will perform at the ceremony.

The Nintendo Switch 2 release at the San Francisco flagship store had fans lining up and traveling from far away on Wednesday. "We play all sorts of video game music, including a lot of Nintendo music," Strohl said. The Switch 2 is pricier than the first generation, at roughly $500 per unit. But from the looks of the line, it's well on its way to making another big splash for Nintendo and its users. "I'm going to buy it with Mario Kart, and I'm going to buy it with some controllers and accessories and stuff, maybe some of the accessories they got," Denier said. In the end, fans are there to have a common experience and share the love for a beloved gaming system. "We're just devoted fans," Denier said. "We love Nintendo."

Perhaps it seems as though it's been such a long time because the cards between then and now have been pretty lackluster. The female G.O.A.T is poised to make a return to the Octagon. She will likely be in New Jersey to face off with the winner following the co-main event. Look for the winner to face Nunes for the bantamweight title later this year. The former Bellator bantamweight champ Patchy Mix debuts in the UFC with a 20-1 record and 13 submission wins. Mix is one of the best bantamweights in the world and he makes his promotional debut against a tough contender in Mario Bautista. Quite honestly, as good as Bautista is, if Mix doesn't win, there will be serious doubt as to whether he'll be a title contender in the UFC. So far, none of the champions who have come over from Bellator have proven to be on that same level in the UFC. Will Mix be the first? While neither Khaos Williams nor Andreas Gustafsson figure to be championship contenders, both men have proven they are about that fight life. From a pure fighting style standpoint, you couldn't ask for a better matchup if you want to see two fighters get after it. There's some other compelling matchups along this line (Luque-Holland, Gastelum-Pyfer, Pena-Harrison), but Williams-Gustafsson could easily be the best fight of the night.

‘Wicked: For Good' trailer highlights Elphaba and Glinda's bond – with a cameo from Dorothy and her little dog, too
Universal Pictures on Wednesday unveiled the trailer for the sequel to 2024 hit 'Wicked,' based on the Tony-winning Broadway musical. The promo clip for the new film, which is tilted 'Wicked: For Good,' seemingly picks up just where last year's first installment left off, with Glinda (Ariana Grande) in a tower high up in the Emerald City at night, beckoning for her schoolmate, friend and de facto rival Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) to make herself known. From there, viewers are treated to fleeting glimpses of Elphaba working her magic, Glinda adorning herself with a glittering crown and a peek at some menacing flying monkeys. The stakes were set by the end of the first film, with Elphaba now branded as 'The Wicked Witch' by both Madame Morribe (Michelle Yeoh) and the Wizard of Oz himself (Jeff Goldblum), who are both seen in pursuit of her in the new trailer. Also back for the new film is Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey), now a prince, who Morrible also recruits to rein in Elphaba. Seemingly through it all, the unflappable bond between Glinda and Elphaba remains, with the two singer-actresses belting out refrains from the Broadway show's second act and the song from which the sequel gets its title. Other curious snippets in the trailer for the new film feature callbacks to the 1939 classic 'The Wizard of Oz,' to which 'Wicked' serves as a preamble, including the Yellow Brick Road and even Dorothy, Toto and the Cowardly Lion. At the end of the trailer, Elphaba says, 'I'm off to see the wizard.' Last year's 'Wicked' became the highest-grossing film based on a Broadway musical, and it earned 10 Oscar nominations, including best picture and acting nods for both Grande and Erivo. It won two statues – one for best achievement in production design and one for costume design. 'Wicked: For Good' will soar into theaters on November 21.
