Oman: Construction of Wadi Baiha Dam in Yanqul completed
Muscat: The construction work of the Wadi Baiha Dam in the Wilayat of Yanqul, Al Dhahirah Governorate, has been completed. The dam was built through community efforts and under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources at a cost of approximately OMR60,000.
Salem bin Hamid Al Badi, the supervisor of the dam construction, said that the length of the dam is 53 metres, its height is 11 metres, and its storage capacity is about 33,000 gallons.
The construction process, which took 235 days, utilised reinforced concrete materials, stones, filters, and other materials, he said, adding that the length of the valley that feeds the dam is about 12 kilometres.
He added that the dam was built according to the highest standards for dam construction in the Sultanate of Oman, with a specialised team from the Dams Department at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources supervising field and construction work, as well as the design and implementation phases of the dam, in accordance with applicable procedures.
Regarding the benefits of the dam, he explained that when the dam is filled with water from the flow of the valleys, it will feed a number of villages and towns, including the village of 'Bayhaa' and 'Al-Waqba' and other villages near the dam.
He said that the location of the dam is one of the well-known tourist sites, and when it is filled, it will create a tourist hotspot, especially for adventurers, and nature enthusiasts.

Oman: South Batinah records over 17 tonnes of wheat production this year
Muscat – South Batinah governorate has produced more than 17 tonnes of wheat this year, with over 80 feddans of land cultivated across its wilayats, according to the Ministry of Agricultural, Fisheries, and Water Resources. The initiative is part of the government's ongoing efforts to enhance food security in the sultanate, with wheat identified as a strategic crop. It provides harvesting equipment and specialised staff to assist farmers during the harvest season. Eng Sawsan bint Talib al Khanbashiya, head of the Date Palm and Plant Production Section, said the wheat seed project plays a key role in advancing food security efforts in the region. e-biker dies in Dubai accident, driver ordered to pay blood money and Dhs10,000 fine
Mohammed Yaseen, Staff Reporter Dubai Misdemeanour Court fined a vehicle driver Dhs10,000 and suspended his licence for six months from the date of the ruling for causing the death of an electric bike rider on Marsa Drive Street. Court also ordered the driver to pay Dhs200,000 in full blood money (diyah) to the heirs of the electric bike rider. The incident dates back to January when Dubai Police received a report of a run-over accident in the Marsa Drive area. A policeman testified that he rushed to the scene and found the victim lying lifeless on the ground next to his electric bike, along with the driver of the vehicle responsible for the accident. The policeman added that after inspection, it was determined that the vehicle driver was responsible for the accident as he entered the road without ensuring it was clear, colliding with the electric bike rider, who was in the correct lane. This was affirmed through an examination of the accident site and CCTV footage, the policeman added. On being questioned, the suspect denied causing the victim's death, claiming that the victim was riding his electric bike at high speed and was not wearing reflective clothing, making it difficult to spot him. The court found the suspect's fault proved, as he failed to exercise caution while driving, adding that by entering the road without ensuring it was clear, he collided with the electric bike, which was in its correct lane, causing severe injuries to the rider which led to his death.

UAE's midday break for outdoor work begins June 15
The annual mid-day break, which restricts outdoor work between 12:30 pm and 3:00 pm, will come into force on June 15, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) announced. It will end on September 15, the ministry added. The summer mid-day break is now in its 21st year, and is part of the UAE's efforts to provide a safe work environment during the summer months. Workers must have access to shaded areas during off-duty periods that has cooling equipment such as fans, sufficient access to drinking water and first-aid kits. Those caught violating the rule will be fined AED5,000 for each person found working during the break hours and up to a maximum of AED50,000 if the case involves multiple workers. Exceptions will apply to work that demands continuity, like asphalt mix laying and concrete pouring, and repair work that concern interruptions to water supply lines, power outages, traffic disruptions and other essential services. The exception also includes work that require a permit from a competent government authority due to their impact on traffic and public life. Mohsen Al Nasi, Assistant Undersecretary for Inspection and Compliance Sector at the Ministry, said regular field visits will be conducted to check if companies are following the rules. MoHRE called on community members and workers to report any violations by contacting its call centre at 600590000 or through the MoHRE app and website.
