To get to the essence of Parisian menswear, I spoke to Paris-based fashion expert and content creator Walid Mimouni. 'There's a real appreciation for detail, quality craftsmanship, and elegance without excess,' says Mimouni. 'In Paris, styles are diverse, sometimes even contradictory, and that's exactly what makes the city so inspiring.' In other words, Parisian fashion embodies the city's cosmopolitan nature while remaining polished. From the perfect fitting jeans to versatile layers, these pieces will help you dress effortlessly in the City of Lights.

Simple shirts
When it comes to shirts, stick to simple items with structured silhouettes. 'In Paris, it's all about the details rather than excess,' says Mimouni. 'People focus on well-cut pieces, muted tones, quality fabrics, and above all, a cohesive silhouette.' Mimouni likes to add a sense of ease to his outfits through loose, long-sleeve shirts. On the other hand, he adds more structure through fitted short-sleeves or tank tops in varying textures. If you do pack a shirt with a textured design, opt for a neutral tone and incorporate color with simpler pieces.
Wide-leg jeans
In terms of jeans, Mimouni recommends straight or wide-leg designs. The Abercrombie & Fitch Athletic Loose jean is a particularly well-fitting style for Parisian-inspired outfits. When shopping for jeans that can pair well with just about any top, look for a pair with a looser fit throughout the thigh and knee.
Versatile trousers
While jeans certainly have a place in Parisian menswear, trousers can help you match each occasion throughout a long day of eating, drinking, or exploring. Incorporating trousers allows you to either dress up casual outfits or ensure that formal attire is polished. 'A simple outfit will do the trick: well-tailored trousers, a fluid shirt, a leather jacket, a good pair of loafers, and often a subtle accessory that adds a touch of character,' says Walid. When in doubt, pair trousers with a fitted T-shirt and black loafers.
Elevated footwear

Walk around Paris and you'll see tons of classic, elevated footwear. 'Loafers, derbies, and leather boots have become everyday staples,' says Mimouni. 'Sneakers are still very present, but in more neutral tones and refined silhouettes.' Mimouni adds that sneakers are often used to soften a dressed-up look. Layers for long days

are combined,' says Walid. 'I play a lot with textures and volumes: thick wool, smooth cotton, and denser knits.' One piece that layers well over tank tops and T-shirts: a leather jacket. However, Parisian style has embraced loose-fitting leather rather than tight biker jackets. Similarly, cardigans act as a versatile layer to wear over your shoulders at a museum or over a T-shirt while out to dinner.
Walid notes that layers are especially important when it comes to work and formal attire. 'Outfits are becoming more hybrid: pleated trousers paired with a knitted polo, a blazer layered over textured knitwear, or minimalist sneakers complementing a tailored look,' he says. Herringbone jackets can provide the classic wool-blend aesthetic that Parisians are embracing while also allowing for versatility between business and business-casual attire. When it comes to going out to bars and clubs, simple jackets do the trick.
Understated accessories
Accessories are especially important in the summer months when outfits can be minimal. While bold accessories stand out in cities like New York, subtle pieces are ideal in Paris. Look for belts, watches, and bracelets that are understated yet well-made. Just like the staple clothing pieces above, neutral tones are ideal as they can match any piece of clothing you pack. Less is more in terms of jewelry—Walid uses jewelry to add character rather than to draw attention.

Tote bags deserve a section of their own as they're not accessories—they're essentials.
