What to Wear in Paris: Menswear Edition
Travelers in Paris often feel pressure to dress the part: classy and effortless. Despite being known for its multiculturalism and tradition, Paris is a city grounded in refinement. The perfect French outfit makes an impression at dinner, work, or along the Seine river while always remaining understated. In fact, locals encourage focusing on buying staple pieces rather than trendy items. By avoiding logos, loud colors, and bulky sneakers as the French do, you can build a timeless capsule wardrobe that embodies sophistication and style.
To get to the essence of Parisian menswear, I spoke to Paris-based fashion expert and content creator Walid Mimouni. 'There's a real appreciation for detail, quality craftsmanship, and elegance without excess,' says Mimouni. 'In Paris, styles are diverse, sometimes even contradictory, and that's exactly what makes the city so inspiring.' In other words, Parisian fashion embodies the city's cosmopolitan nature while remaining polished. From the perfect fitting jeans to versatile layers, these pieces will help you dress effortlessly in the City of Lights.

Simple shirts
When it comes to shirts, stick to simple items with structured silhouettes. 'In Paris, it's all about the details rather than excess,' says Mimouni. 'People focus on well-cut pieces, muted tones, quality fabrics, and above all, a cohesive silhouette.' Mimouni likes to add a sense of ease to his outfits through loose, long-sleeve shirts. On the other hand, he adds more structure through fitted short-sleeves or tank tops in varying textures. If you do pack a shirt with a textured design, opt for a neutral tone and incorporate color with simpler pieces.
Wide-leg jeans
In terms of jeans, Mimouni recommends straight or wide-leg designs. The Abercrombie & Fitch Athletic Loose jean is a particularly well-fitting style for Parisian-inspired outfits. When shopping for jeans that can pair well with just about any top, look for a pair with a looser fit throughout the thigh and knee.
Versatile trousers
While jeans certainly have a place in Parisian menswear, trousers can help you match each occasion throughout a long day of eating, drinking, or exploring. Incorporating trousers allows you to either dress up casual outfits or ensure that formal attire is polished. 'A simple outfit will do the trick: well-tailored trousers, a fluid shirt, a leather jacket, a good pair of loafers, and often a subtle accessory that adds a touch of character,' says Walid. When in doubt, pair trousers with a fitted T-shirt and black loafers.
Elevated footwear

Walk around Paris and you'll see tons of classic, elevated footwear. 'Loafers, derbies, and leather boots have become everyday staples,' says Mimouni. 'Sneakers are still very present, but in more neutral tones and refined silhouettes.' Mimouni adds that sneakers are often used to soften a dressed-up look. The Adidas Stan Smith sneakers are an ideal pair to pack as they can be worn with both jeans and trousers.

Layers for long days
Wardrobe simplicity is encouraged in Paris. 'What really makes the difference is how the materials

are combined,' says Walid. 'I play a lot with textures and volumes: thick wool, smooth cotton, and denser knits.' One piece that layers well over tank tops and T-shirts: a leather jacket. However, Parisian style has embraced loose-fitting leather rather than tight biker jackets. Similarly, cardigans act as a versatile layer to wear over your shoulders at a museum or over a T-shirt while out to dinner.
Walid notes that layers are especially important when it comes to work and formal attire. 'Outfits are becoming more hybrid: pleated trousers paired with a knitted polo, a blazer layered over textured knitwear, or minimalist sneakers complementing a tailored look,' he says. Herringbone jackets can provide the classic wool-blend aesthetic that Parisians are embracing while also allowing for versatility between business and business-casual attire. When it comes to going out to bars and clubs, simple jackets do the trick.
Understated accessories
Accessories are especially important in the summer months when outfits can be minimal. While bold accessories stand out in cities like New York, subtle pieces are ideal in Paris. Look for belts, watches, and bracelets that are understated yet well-made. Just like the staple clothing pieces above, neutral tones are ideal as they can match any piece of clothing you pack. Less is more in terms of jewelry—Walid uses jewelry to add character rather than to draw attention.
Everyday tote bags
Tote bags deserve a section of their own as they're not accessories—they're essentials. The Carhartt duck tote is a functional yet understated bag that you can use to pack travel essentials and a book. For something more elevated, the Prada suede tote is just as functional, with room for an extra pair of clothes, toiletries, or some wine and cheese. Options like the Prada suede tote are the type of quiet luxury that add boldness to Paris's refinement. Walid mentions he finds inspiration for bolder items like this while observing Parisians in a café. 'You notice a cut, a smart color combination, a perfectly placed accessory, and it sparks ideas for your own looks,' he says. 'That kind of spontaneity is what inspires me the most.'

Barack and Michelle Obama among those showering Coco Gauff with praise after French Open win
For the first time in a decade, an American won at the French Open after Coco Gauff defeated Aryna Sabalenka in three sets to collect the trophy at Roland-Garros. Gauff's second Grand Slam did not come easy. She had to throw the world No. 1 player's game off on the famous clay court. She was down after the first set tiebreak went to Sabalenka, but Gauff rallied and had a raucous crowd behind her that led to a drop-to-the-clay celebration in the end. Gauff received social media praise from many for her win, including Michelle and Barack Obama. "Congrats, @CocoGauff!" Michelle Obama wrote. "Your determination, strength, and grace throughout the French Open has inspired us all – and showed us what's possible. Proud of you!" The former president added, "Congratulations to @CocoGauff for an amazing championship at the French Open – the first American singles champion at @RolandGarros in a decade. You make us all proud." Gauff was locked in on the court, but there were many American celebrities in the stands at Roland-Garros, including director Spike Lee, actor Dustin Hoffman, "Inside The NBA" host Ernie Johnson and others. Those in the tennis world were thrilled to see Gauff's tenacity and determination. "Congratulations to @CocoGauff on her second Grand Slam women's singles title, and her first singles title at #RolandGarros!" tennis great Billie Jean King wrote on X. "Outstanding!" Even Carlos Alcaraz, who will face Jannik Sinner in the men's singles final at Roland-Garros, took the time to congratulate Gauff. "Many congrats @CocoGauff!!!" he wrote on X. The 7 Best Watches of the Week, From Idris Elba's Rolex to Rick Ross's Avi & Co.
Wearing tiny watches may be becoming more popular—Robb Report editors Paige Reddinger and Justin Fenner discuss this very trend in the first episode of Robb Report's new vodcast, The Wind Up—but some gents still believe bigger is better. We spotted seven celebs in sizable timepieces this week, in fact. James Bond contender Aaron Taylor-Johnson sported a 42 mm Omega Seamaster to a photocall in Paris, while Riverdale star Hart Denton rocked a 42 mm TAG Heuer Carrera to the premiere of Ballerina in L.A. More from Robb Report Why the Ultra-Wealthy Are Betting Big on America's Luxury Ranch Estates This Off-Grid Home Sits on 500 Vineyard Acres in Paso Robles Wine Country Pre-Owned Watch Sales Spiked by 160% in April Ahead of Trump's Potential Tariffs Brits Orlando Bloom, Idris Elba, and Stormzy wore watches measuring one millimeter less to various events in London, but still managed to make a statement. Elba flashed a 41 mm Rolex Datejust II, Orlando Bloom showed off a 41 mm Porsche Design chronograph, and Stormzy flaunted a 41 mm Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. At the smaller yet still impressive end of the spectrum, Ousmane Dembele sported a 40 mm Rolex Daytona at the French Open and Rick Ross donned a 40 mm Avi & Co. for his media mixer in Georgia. Below are the best watch flexes of the week. Best of Robb Report The 25 Greatest Independent Watchmakers in the World The 10 Most Expensive Watches Sold at Auction in the 21st Century (So Far) 11 Stunning Jewelry Moments From the 2020 Oscars Click here to read the full article. Aaron Taylor-Johnson was named an Omega ambassador in May and is already dutifully repping the watchmaker. The British actor wore a sleek steel Seamaster Diver 300M to the 28 Years Later photocall in Paris on Wednesday. The Seamaster is best known for being worn on the wrist of Agent 007 in the world-famous James Bond franchise. Taylor-Johnson has been considered a frontrunner to become the next 007, after Daniel Craig relinquished the role in 2021. Perhaps Omega and Taylor-Johnson are hinting at something? The 42 mm dive watch will cost you $6,200, unless, of course, you swindle it from Q Branch. Stormzy has a watch collection that is up there with the best of them: A practically impossible-to-get gem-set Patek? Check. A Rainbow Rolex Daytona? You know it. Several Audemars Piguets? Well, of course. The British rapper was spotted wearing one of his Royal Oaks at House Party's 1st Anniversary in London on Thursday. This particular iteration of the iconic model AP features a frosted gold case and an openwork dial with not one but two balance wheels. Incorporating a double balance wheel creates an oscillator with more mass, which in turn enhances the stability and precision of the watch. Not to mention, it looks incredibly cool. Price upon request, but expect it to be six figures. Rick Ross is one gent who loves big and bold wrist candy. The rap mogul, who has a multi-million-dollar watch collection, flexed a giant, iced-out Avi & Co. timepiece at his media mixer in Georgia on Monday evening. Avi & Co. is known for selling Patek Philippes, Audemars Piguets, and Rolexes, but also makes bling, too. This particular six-figure stunner is part of the Frosted collection that the family-owned watch and jewelry retailer released in 2024. Aptly christened the AH17 Frosted, the 40 mm rose-gold watch features 29.33 carats of baguette-cut diamonds on the dial and bezel, as well as a frosted bracelet and crown. It has an equally stunning price tag of $130,000. Actor Hart Denton of Riverdale fame wore the wristwatch equivalent of a pirouette to the L.A. premiere of Ballerina on Tuesday. The wonderfully complex timepiece was released by TAG Heuer in 2023 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Porsche Carrera and 911. Aptly christened the Carrera Chronosprint x Porsche, the wrist candy features a 42 mm rose-gold case, a shimmering beige dial, and racy red accents. Chronograph subdials sit at three, six, and nine o'clock, while a black 60-second scale with a Porsche inscription sits on the flange. The TH20-08 mirrors the original 901's acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 9.1 seconds, with the movement's central hand accelerating swiftly then gradually decelerating over 60 seconds before quickly restarting. The piece will set you back $23,550. Only Idris Elba could make an aftermarket Rolex look as good as the real deal. The Luther star wore an all-black custom Rollie to a meet and greet at SXSW London 2025 on Wednesday. The handiwork of Italian outfit Black Venom, the Datejust II is finished in a black DLC (diamond-like carbon) coating and sports contrasting diamond hour markers. Other classic Rolex touches, such as the fluted bezel and Oyster bracelet, remain as is. The Black Venom Datejust is limited to 35 and costs about $18,000 (€15,900). Paris Saint-Germain star Ousmane Dembele wore a winning Rolex to celebrate his team's victory in the UEFA Champions League. The striker showed off his iced-out Daytona as he showed off the league's hefty trophy to the crowd at the French Open on Tuesday. This flashy take on the original 1960s chronograph features a 40 mm platinum case, an ice blue dial with Arabic numerals, a diamond-set bezel, and a platinum Oyster bracelet. It is also equipped with the Caliber 4130 and the three subdials integral to the chronograph function. This Rollie will run you around $400,000 on the secondary market. Orlando Bloom just became a brand ambassador for Porsche Design, and he's already dressing his wrist accordingly. The British actor wore a coveted Chronograph 1 to the Deep Cover premiere at SXSW London on Wednesday. Released in 2022, the All Black Numbered Edition is a modern riff on the first chronograph Ferdinand Alexander Porsche designed in 1972. The German design studio claims the 41 mm successor is the first entirely Black timepiece in history. It'll only cost you $9,650, too.

Etoile canceled after one season at Amazon, despite two-season order
Etoile has danced its last dance. The Amazon Prime Video series from Marvelous Mrs. Maisel creator Amy Sherman-Palladino has been canceled after one season, in spite of the fact that it was initially given a two-season order by Amazon back in 2023, per Variety. The news of the show's cancellation comes roughly six weeks after the series first premiered on Amazon in mid-April and garnered generally positive reviews. The show follows two struggling dance companies in New York and Paris who decide to switch their principal dancers in the hopes of saving their companies. Recommended Videos In spite of generally positive reviews, the show never cracked the Nielsen Top 10, and it filmed on location in both New York and Paris, which undoubtedly made the prospect of giving it a second season somewhat daunting. The series was given its initial greenlight by a previous administration at Amazon MGM Studios, headed by Jennifer Salke. Salke left that role after seven years in March, just a month before the series was set to premiere. The show's binge model release, once the default for streaming service, has become increasingly rare on Amazon Prime Video. Dropping all eight episodes at once, especially for a new series, leaves very little time for word of mouth to spread. Given the expense of filming the show on location, though, it's possible that the show was always going to be a tough sell for renewal. Coming off the success of Maisel, though, it seems like Amazon wanted to give Sherman-Palladino a blank check. Unfortunately, Etoile didn't cash in.
