Punchestown Festival 2025 day 2 tips: Robbie Power's selections for Wednesday

The Ladbrokes Punchestown Gold Cup is a fascinating contest today despite there only being four runners.
However, they are four top quality horses in Galopin Des Champs, Spillane's Tower, Banbridge and Monty's Star.
Galopin Des Champs has never produced around Punchestown what he has done around Leopardstown and Cheltenham so I'd oppose him for that reason.
Banbridge might just be the one here, with the track and ground to suit Joseph O'Brien's nine-year-old.
He was disappointing in the Gold Cup, but back in a small field on nice ground, the King George winner could land another massive pot.
The ground won't be in Spillane's Tower' favour, while Monty's Star ran well when fourth in the Gold Cup.
He didn't have the ideal preparation for it and comes into this in much better form and will like the drying ground.
He has a bit to find with Galopin Des Champs, but is entitled to take his chance and should run his race.

Today's first Grade 1, the Channor Real Estate Group Novice Hurdle, looks like it could be a clash between the Willie Mullins-trained Jasmin De Vaux and Honesty Policy for Gordon Elliott.
Jasmin De Vaux was very good when getting his jumping together to win the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham and see off The Big Westerner.
But Honesty Policy was also good when winning the Grade 1 Turners Mersey Novices' Hurdle at Aintree.
However, I'm going to go for Jasmin De Vaux. He was the Cheltenham Champion Bumper winner last season and is fancied to follow up his Prestbury Park success here.
Jasmin De Vaux did not add the Punchestown Champion Bumper to his Cheltenham victory last year and Bambino Fever will aim to do so this time around.
The seven-pound mares allowance is huge for her, but I like the look of Colcannon, who comes here fresh having not run since winning at the Dublin Racing Festival and will favour the dry ground.
His form got a good boost on Irish Grand National when Sortudo, who was second behind Colcannon, bolted up at Fairyhouse under Patrick Mullins and he is fancied to run a big race again here under Derek O'Connor for Noel Meade.
The Adare Manor Opportunity Series Final Handicap Hurdle kicks off the action today at 2.30 and it's a very competitive contest.
In For The Night for trainer Desmond McDonogh is up seven pounds for winning at Naas last time out and he is interesting under Charlie O'Dwyer.
Henry de Bromhead runs three in the opener and Nouvotic, who won a maiden hurdle at Wexford when last seen on the track last July, is one I'd be keeping on side.
This six-year-old is open to further progression and should give Ethan O'Sullivan, who claims four pounds, a good spin.
The Connolly's RED MILLS Irish EBF Auction Hurdle Series Final comes next at 3.05 and Champagne Jury and Downmexicoway look like the two for me here.
Champagne Jury was second in an auction novice hurdle to Honesty Policy at Leopardstown back in March.
That's the best line of form in the race and he looks like the one they all have to beat, but Downmexicoway is the highest rated horse in the race and could be the one to give Champagne Jury plenty to do.
In the Louis Fitzgerald Hotel Hurdle at 3.40, I'd be siding with Kaid d'Authie for Willie Mullins and JP McManus, with Mark Walsh on board.
He was disappointing the last day when pulled up behind The New Lion in the Turners Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.
But he did win a maiden hurdle at Leopardstown over Christmas when beating Kottail Divin, which is a decent line of form and I'd side with him in another open race.
In the penultimate race at 6.05, Lets Go Champ is fancied to win this contest again following his victory in it 12 months ago.
He comes into it in good form and the better ground will suit this 10-year-old, with Rachael Blackmore onboard.
And Seo Linn will take all the beating in the Weatherbys Mares bumper at 6.35 following her impressive win at Aintree earlier this month.
Bet of the day - Let's Go Champ - 6.05

Galway boxer 'devastated' as historic GAA Stadium bout cancelled on short notice

Galway boxer Kieran Molloy has said he is 'devastated' after his Pearse Stadium bout has been cancelled just over two weeks before it was due to take place. Molloy boasts an 11-0 professional record and was set for a headline bout against Kaisee Benjamin at Galway GAA's home stadium but the bout has been called off just 17 days before it was due to take place. The Oughterard man told the Irish Mirror just last week: "I've been dreaming of moments like this since I was a kid." But now his dreams have been shattered. Molloy shared a statement on social media, saying: "I'm devastated to share that my upcoming European Title Fight at Pearse Stadium has been cancelled. The decision was made by the promoter, GBM Sports, and came as a complete shock to me and my team. "This was more than just a fight for me — it was a dream come true to headline a major event in my home county, in front of the people who've backed me from the very start." Molloy added that he sold 2,100 of the 2,500 tickets he had received and that demand was 'growing significantly each day'. "I'm really sorry for the upset, cost and frustration this cancellation has caused." Molloy said that refunds will be issued in due course and that he has parted ways with GBM Sports following the announcement. "This is a tough one to take, but we'll bounce back. Better nights are ahead — and I promise we'll bring something special to Galway one day in the future when the time is right. "Míle, míle buíochas. Gaillimh Abú." The undercard was set to include the likes of Belfast's Sean McComb, Westmeath's Joe Ward, and Hughie Fury, the cousin of heavyweight king Tyson. GBM have now put on a different fight night in Hull on the same night.

Premier League legend backs Irish star to continue record-breaking haul at Royal Ascot

Royal Ascot is the pinnacle of the flat-racing season, with some of the world's best jockeys and trainers arriving in Berkshire for five days of top-notch horse-racing action. This year's event begins on Tuesday 17 June, with talent from Europe, Australia, Japan, the Middle East, and the United States all competing for a slice of the huge £10 million prize pot. And former Arsenal star and horse racing fanatic Ray Parlour believes Irishman Aidan O'Brien will extend his remarkable win rate at the famous meeting later this month. The Ballydoyle star is already the most successful trainer in Royal Ascot history with a record 91 winners. He scooped six wins at Royal Ascot last year, making him the leading trainer at the event - the 13th time he has achieved the feat in his career. 'Aidan O'Brien is the best flat trainer at the moment,' says Parlour. 'He has so many top horses in his stable who can win the sprints and longer distance races, so naturally, he's one to follow.' The ex-Gunner says he'll be focusing on Thursday's showpiece Gold Cup, where O'Brien will be looking to add to his record-breaking eight wins in the race. His horse Illinois is 7/5 favourite with NetBet Casino and Sport Ireland to triumph ahead of Candelari at 7/2 and Trawlerman at 21/5. Another O'Brien starter in the race is Jan Brueghel, priced at 26/5. 'Illinois is a good horse who may make it a very interesting race and could come out on top in the Gold Cup,' adds Parlour. The two highest-earning races are the Prince Of Wales's Stakes and the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes, with a whopping £1 million handed to the winner of each race. In the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes, Lazzat is the 7/2 frontrunner, Inisherin at 24/5 and O'Brien's Storm Boy at 6/1. Ascot's opening race is also highly rewarding, with the winner taking home £750,000. With John and Thady Gosden as the trainers, Parlour plans to keep a close watch on Lead Artist, expecting Oisin Murphy to ride again. Just last month, Murphy guided Lead Artist to a thrilling victory at Newbury, where he narrowly defeated Dancing Gemini in the closing moments of the race. Now, the two horses are set for a rematch at Ascot, and Parlour is confident Murphy will replicate that winning performance in Berkshire. 'In the opening race at Ascot, Lead Artist is a horse I know won at Newbury and could go very well in the Queen Anne Stakes,' he says. Lead Artist is 26/5 with NetBet Casino and Sport Ireland to win the race, just behind Dancing Gemini at 9/2 and the favourite Rosallion at 7/2. Four-time FA Cup winner Parlour is also tipping jockey Ryan Moore for more success at this year's event. The 41-year-old has won the leading jockey title 10 times at Ascot and set a post-war record of nine winners for a single Royal Ascot meeting in 2015. 'Ryan Moore is such a great jockey, too, and he proves time and time again the quality he has in the saddle,' he said. 'Royal Ascot is a superb spectacle and an icon of British Sport,' says Parlour. 'It gets the Royal treatment as well, so it's 100 per cent up there for sure as one of the year's best events. 'Sometimes you receive a tip and follow that one, or look at the in-form trainers and jockeys. For me, especially in the big races, I may just go with horse number 15, which was my number when I played.'
