Time of India6 hours ago
Varanasi: The UP Special Task Force (STF) has successfully apprehended a prime suspect in the high-profile murder of a real estate trader in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, in 2022.
The STF's Varanasi field unit, led by deputy SP Shailendra Pratap Singh, arrested the accused, Vinay Kumar Dwivedi alias Basu alias Guruji from Chamrauha village in the Manikpur police station area of Chitrakoot on Friday night.
The STF recovered a pistol and live cartridges from him.
The STF revealed that Dwivedi had been on the run for nearly three years, constantly changing locations to evade police in Chhattisgarh and other states. He had recently taken refuge in Varanasi, where the STF tracked him down. Dwivedi was wanted for the 2022 murder of Sanjeev Tripathi, a real estate trader who was also a office-bearer of a political party. Tripathi was shot dead by two car-borne assailants, including Dwivedi, in Bilaspur.
During questioning by STF officials, Dwivedi revealed that he came to Varanasi at the invitation of his accomplice Ajaz alias Sonu, who carries a bounty of Rs 1 lakh, from Pratapgarh. He further disclosed that in 2022, he, along with his associates Ajaz alias Sonu, Danish Ansari, Pappu Dadhi, Prasoon Gupta, and others, finalised the strategy to kill Tripathi on the orders of his brother Kapil Tripathi due to personal enmity.

No date, consistent account and medical evidence: Court acquits Haryana teacher of unnatural sex charge made by wife

1 2 3 Panchkula: In the absence of any specific date, consistent account of the commission of unnatural sexual intercourse and any medical evidence to support the allegation, a local court in Panchkula acquitted a Haryana government school teacher of this serious allegation among others made by his wife in 2017. The verdict was pronounced by Chief Judicial Magistrate Ajay Kumar, who held that the prosecution failed to prove the charges beyond reasonable doubt. The court found that the complainant failed to provide specific dates or consistent accounts of the alleged unnatural acts. The medico legal report (MLR), conducted three months after the last alleged incident, showed no fresh injuries. The court stated that the mere possibility of unnatural intercourse, as mentioned in the MLR, was insufficient for conviction. Also, the complainant said that the accused started to establish unnatural sexual intercourse after two to three months of marriage, but very strangely, approximately for four years, no complaint was made by the complainant either to the police authorities or to other appropriate designated authorities. "....in absentia of specific details regarding the date, month, and year of the commission of unnatural sexual intercourse by the accused and also in absentia of any medical evidence to support the allegations, by no stretch of imagination, it can be said that offence punishable under Section 377 IPC was ever committed by the accused against the complainant," observed the court in its order. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is your tinnitus getting worse? The investigating officer testified that he could not find any independent confirmation of dowry demands or physical abuse from neighbours or family acquaintances. Physical abuse allegations under Sections 323 and 498A IPC were also dismissed due to lack of medical evidence and absence of timely complaints. The court concluded that the prosecution failed to present reliable, specific, and corroborated evidence to substantiate any of the charges. The accused was charged under Sections 323, 377, 406, 498A, 120B, and 34 of the IPC. The case stemmed from a complaint filed by the wife, who alleged that after their marriage in January 2013, she was subjected to dowry-related harassment, physical assault, and forcible unnatural sexual intercourse by her husband. The FIR was registered on Dec 2, 2017, in Panchkula, following which the accused teacher was arrested and later released on bail. His family members were found innocent during the investigation and were not charge-sheeted. In a detailed 13-page judgment, the court noted several inconsistencies and lack of evidence in the prosecution's case.
