60,000 football fans expected to flood Bukit Jalil Stadium tonight
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 60,000 football fans are expected to attend the 2027 Asian Cup Qualifying Football Match between Malaysia and Vietnam at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, here at 9 pm tonight.
Cheras deputy district police chief Supt Ridzuan Khalid said all stadium entrances will open as early as 5.30 pm and security checks will be carried out on spectators before entering the stadium to prevent them from bringing in prohibited items.
He said these include firecrackers, fireworks, flares, helmets, laser pens, sharp objects, dangerous weapons, liquor, umbrellas, sticks, power banks, water bottles, ice cubes, lighters, matches, cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, drones, speakers and drums (without permission from the MFL).
'To ensure smooth traffic flow, the public is advised to use public transport to the Bukit Jalil National Stadium and avoid passing through the area around the stadium for non-match-related business.
'The public is also asked to obey the instructions of police officers, be patient on the road and not to park vehicles on the road shoulder as vehicles that obstruct traffic will be towed away or fined,' he said in a statement today.
He said his party would not hesitate to take strict action against any group or individual who tries to cause chaos, riots and excessive provocations during or after the football match.

AGC rejects Najib's bid to drop SRC RM27m money laundering charges, court to decide on DNAA by June 20
KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 — The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) has rejected Datuk Seri Najib Razak's representation to drop his three money laundering charges involving SRC International Sdn Bhd funds amounting to RM27 million. The decision was related to the High Court during today's case management on the status of the representation submitted to the AGC in 2023. Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Ashrof Adrin Kamarul said the prosecution was therefore prepared to proceed with the trial, but also asked for the court to fix longer trial dates to allow for the compilation of voluminous trial documents. Najib's lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah then suggested to court to grant his client a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) in the interest of justice as trial has been indefinitely postponed since 2019. A DNAA means an accused person can face trial for the same charges in the future if the prosecution decides to reinstate them. 'I am suggesting for the court to grant a DNAA. This will remove pressure from both sides,' he said, adding that the prosecution can decide further when everything is in order to proceed with trial at a later date. On the matter of DNAA, Ashrof said he would leave it to the court's discretion as his explicit instructions were to proceed with the trial and therefore cannot agree to the defence's request. 'We cannot agree to the DNAA as we have indicated we are prepared to proceed with trial, however, on issue of documentations we need time,' he said. High Court Judge K. Muniandy later fixed June 20 to decide on the defence's application for DNAA. On February 3, 2019, the former prime minister claimed trial to the three charges of money laundering by accepting illegal proceeds amounting to RM27 million through his three AmPrivate Banking accounts at AmIslamic Bank Berhad, AmBank Group Building, Jalan Raja Chulan on July 8, 2014. He was charged under Section 4 (1) (a) of the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001, which is punishable by a maximum fine of RM5 million or imprisonment of up to five years, or both upon conviction. The former Pekan MP is currently serving a jail term in Kajang Prison for the misappropriation of RM42 million in the SRC International funds case. On September 2, 2022, he filed a petition for a royal pardon, following which on January 29 the Pardons Board halved his jail term from 12 to six years and reduced the fine from RM210 million to RM50 million.

Police: Bus driver in crash that killed 15 UPSI students had 18 summonses, 13 for speeding
PETALING JAYA, June 10 — The driver of the bus involved in the accident that claimed the lives of 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students yesterday had a record of 18 traffic summonses, according to Bukit Aman traffic investigation and enforcement department director Yusri Hassan Basri. According to Sinar Harian, Yusri said 13 of the summonses were for speeding, three for not wearing a seatbelt, one for failing to have a third brake light, and another for involvement in a previous accident. He added that a special task force involving police, the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research, the road transport department, the Land Public Transport Agency, and other relevant bodies has been formed to investigate the crash. 'We will complete the investigation papers as soon as possible. Our investigation will be thorough and cover all aspects, including the driver's past offences, background, activities and career history,' he was quoted as saying. The crash occurred early Monday morning when the bus, travelling from Jertih, Terengganu, to UPSI's campus in Tanjung Malim, Perak, collided with the rear of a Perodua Alza, veered off the road, and overturned along the East-West Highway near Tasik Banding. Sinar Harian reported that the task force's findings will address potential safety lapses and preventive measures.

Sabah Customs seize RM16.6m worth of smuggled goods at Sepanggar Port in May
KOTA KINABALU, June 11 — The Royal Malaysian Customs Department (Sabah) seized RM16.6 million worth of smuggled goods in a series of raids at Sepanggar Port here last month. Sabah Customs Department Assistant Director General Siti Mang yesterday said the items seized between May 14 and 29 included liquor, frozen chicken and rice. In the first case, Customs officers inspected 33 containers and discovered 659,856 litres of various types of liquor worth RM3.97 million. The estimated duties and taxes amounted to RM11.86 million. In a second raid on May 16, officers inspected a container carrying 28 tonnes of frozen chicken valued at RM233,400. The duties and taxes were estimated at RM93,360. None of the frozen chicken products had a valid import permit. On May 29, officers uncovered 150 tonnes of fragrant and glutinous rice worth RM356,250, with duties and taxes totaling RM142,500. All cases are being investigated under Section 135(1)(a) of the Customs Act 1967. Siti said smuggling activities not only cause significant revenue loss but also pose risks to national security and public well-being. She urged the public to cooperate with the Customs Department by reporting any smuggling activities via the Customs Toll-Free line at 1-800-88-8855. — The Borneo Post
