Iran's SLAL tenders for 120,000 tons each corn, barley and soymeal

HAMBURG: Iranian state-owned animal feed importer SLAL has received offers to supply up to 120,000 metric tons each of corn, barley and soymeal after it had issued international tenders, European traders said on Tuesday. The deadline for submission was Monday, they said, adding that the price offers were still being considered and that no purchase had been reported. The shipment of grains is expected to be in July and August. The corn can be sourced from Brazil, Europe, Russia, Ukraine or elsewhere in the Black Sea region, including Turkey. The barley can be sourced from the European Union, Russia, Ukraine or elsewhere in the Black Sea region, including Turkey or from Kazakhstan. The soymeal can be sourced from Brazil or Argentina only. South Korea's MFG buys estimated 199,000 tons corn, traders say Iranian businesses have been hit by payment issues as Western sanctions over the country's nuclear programme made overseas participation in recent tenders difficult, traders said. While sanctions exempt food, Iran's financial system has been affected, creating complex and erratic payment arrangements. Traders said Iran was offering payment via two banks, one in Iraq and one in Turkiye.

Iran to submit counter N-proposal to US

Iran said on Monday it will soon present a counter-proposal on a nuclear deal with the United States, after it had described Washington's offer as containing "ambiguities". Tehran and Washington have held five rounds of talks since April to thrash out a new nuclear accord to replace the deal with major powers that US President Donald Trump abandoned during his first term in 2018. Foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei criticised the US proposal as "lacking elements" reflective of the previous rounds of negotiations, without providing further details. "We will soon submit our own proposed plan to the other side through (mediator) Oman once it is finalised," Baqaei told a weekly press briefing. "It is a proposal that is reasonable, logical and balanced, and we strongly recommend that the American side value this opportunity." Also on Monday, Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi told state news agency IRNA that Iran's response "is a framework for agreement". "If we reach an understanding on this framework in principle, further extensive negotiations will begin on its details," he added. Iran currently enriches uranium to 60 percent, far above the 3.67-percent limit set in the 2015 deal and close though still short of the 90 percent needed for a nuclear warhead. Western countries, including the United States, have long accused Iran of seeking to acquire atomic weapons, while Iran insists its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes. The United Nations nuclear watchdog on Monday began a Board of Governors meeting in Vienna that will last until Friday to discuss Iran's nuclear activities among other topics. "I call upon Iran urgently to cooperate fully and effectively with the International Atomic Energy Agency," said agency chief Rafael Grossi in his opening speech. "Unless and until Iran assists the agency in resolving the outstanding safeguards issues, the agency will not be in a position to provide assurance that Iran's nuclear programme is exclusively peaceful," he added. Britain, France and Germany, the three European countries that are party to the 2015 deal, are currently weighing whether to trigger the sanctions "snapback" mechanism in the accord. The mechanism would reinstate UN sanctions in response to Iranian non-compliance -- an option that expires in October. On Friday, Araghchi warned European powers against backing a draft resolution at the IAEA accusing Tehran of non-compliance, calling it a "strategic mistake". On Monday, Baqaei said Iran has "prepared and formulated a series of steps and measures" if the resolution is passed. "Without a doubt, the response to confrontation will not be more cooperation," he added.

China's May crude imports at 4-mth low amid widespread refinery maintenance

China's crude oil imports fell in May to their lowest daily rate in four months, data showed on Monday, as planned maintenance work at both state-owned and independent refiners picked up. May imports in the world's largest crude buyer totalled 46.6 million metric tons, equivalent to 10.97 million barrels per day (bpd), according to data from the General Administration of Customs. The volume dropped by 3% compared with 48.06 million tons in April, and also fell 0.78% from May 2024. In the first five months of 2025, China imported 229.61 million metric tons, or 11.1 million bpd, up 0.3% from the same period a year earlier, the data showed. Maintenance affected a combined refining capacity of 129.9 million tons per year, or about 2.6 million bpd, up by 19.2 million tons from April, according to data by local consultancy Oilchem. 'May is typically the peak maintenance season in China, so refineries intentionally reduced their purchases of cargoes arriving in May,' Muyu Xu, Kpler's senior crude oil analyst, said. 'In addition, crude prices were relatively high earlier, so long-term contract volumes, especially from Saudi Arabia, were significantly cut back. On top of that, Iranian oil arrivals were very low in May, which made overall seaborne imports quite weak.' However, import are expected to rebound in June. China April crude oil imports up 'That's because the volume of long-term contract barrels from the Middle East arriving in June will increase notably, and arbitrage barrels from other regions, such as Brazilian crude, will also rise. However, Iranian crude imports may remain low, roughly on par with May levels,' Muyu Xu said. Monday's data also showed China's refined fuel exports fell 17.62% in May to 4.41 million tons from a year earlier. Natural gas imports - including piped gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) - fell 10.8% on the year to 10.11 million tons, the data showed. Imports of spot LNG remained weak as Asian prices hovered above $11/mmBtu, a level deemed too expensive for Chinese buyers given ample domestic supplies and weaker-than-expected industrial consumption of the fuel, traders have said.
