Young Indian-AJL transaction a sham: ASG in Herald case
NEW DELHI: Additional solicitor general SV Raju claimed before a Delhi court Tuesday that transaction between Associated Journals Ltd and Young Indian Pvt Ltd was a sham transaction in an alleged money laundering case in the National Herald matter.
"All India Congress Committee was given funds, which were to be used properly, but the way they used Rs 90 crore shows they committed criminal breach of trust," the ASG argued. The ASG's arguments will continue Saturday before the court of special judge Vishal Gogne, which is hearing arguments on the point of cognisance of chargesheet filed against
Sonia Gandhi
,
Rahul Gandhi
, & others. Court posted the matter to July 12 for further proceedings.
After rebuttal arguments by all seven accused in the case were completed Tuesday, the ASG submitted his rebuttals before the court. According to ED, Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, along with others and Young Indian, conspired to launder money by fraudulent takeover of properties valued over at Rs 2,000 crore belonging to AJL. As per ED, the Gandhis held a majority 76% shares in Young Indian, which fraudulently usurped assets of AJL in exchange for a Rs 90 crore loan.

After CSDS psephologist deletes X post, BJP accuses Congress of making 'baseless claims' on voter fraud
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday (August 19, 2025) accused the Congress of making 'baseless' claims about 'vote theft' and targeting the Election Commission of India in 'collusion' with a Delhi-based think tank. This came after Sanjay Kumar, a psephologist and a professor with the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS), who had shared voter data from two Maharashtra Assembly seats related to last year's State election in a post on X on Sunday (August 17, 2025), subsequently deleted his post on Tuesday (August 19, 2025), apologising for posting erroneous data. The post had claimed a significant decrease in voter numbers in two Assembly seats in the State election compared to the 2024 general election, which was held nearly six months earlier. 'Fake data' Reacting sharply, BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia lashed out at Mr. Kumar for posting 'false data' which he claimed was used by the Opposition to target the EC, calling it a 'dangerous game'. 'This survey organisation [CSDS] is nothing but a puppet at the hands of leaders like Rahul Gandhi who could not win people's trust. He needs such an organisation which can provide fake data and facts so that he can make baseless allegations,' Mr. Bhatia said. 'Congress leader Pawan Khera tweets on this and then deletes. Rahul Gandhi's baseless allegations are also based on CSDS data,' he added. Deleting his post on Tuesday (August 19, 2025), Mr. Kumar wrote on X, 'I sincerely apologise for the tweets posted regarding Maharashtra elections. An error occurred while comparing the data of 2024 LS and 2024 AS. The data in the row was misread by our Data team.' The erroneous tweet has since been removed, he said, adding, 'I had no intention of dispersing any form of misinformation.'

Trump Plans Third BIG Peace Meeting: As Missiles Fly Over Ukraine, Is Road To Peace In Making?
A third meeting is now in the works following a series of high-profile meetings between U.S. President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and top European leaders. Following Trump and Zelensky's meeting at the White House, Ukraine announced it would purchase arms worth Rs. 783 crore (approx. 94 million dollars) from the U.S. These weapons are part of a security guarantee provided by America. Interestingly, the funding will come from the European Union. Meanwhile, U.S. companies will invest around Rs. 360 crore (43 million dollars) to manufacture drones in Ukraine. In today's DNA episode, Rahul Sinha, Managing Editor, Zee News, analysed the trilateral meeting that is expected to take place amongst Trump, Putin, and Zelenskyy: Watch DNA Episode Here: #DNAWithRahulSinha | ट्रंप का एक ही कायदा, युद्ध से भी 'फायदा'... ट्रंप की 'मुनाफा-वसूली' का DNA टेस्ट#DNA #VolodymyrZelenskyy #DonaldTrump #WhiteHouseMeeting @RahulSinhaTV — Zee News (@ZeeNews) August 19, 2025 Trump has not only managed to secure arms deals through these negotiations, but he also appears to have earned favor with Russian President Vladimir Putin by pushing for a ceasefire. The Third Summit After the initial summit in Alaska with Putin and the second with Zelensky and European leaders, Trump announced a third trilateral summit involving himself, Zelensky, and Putin. In a social media post, Trump stated that coordination has begun to set a time and location for the prospective meeting. Representatives are currently in talks to finalize the agenda. Zelensky's Outfit Sparks Buzz When Zelensky arrived at the White House, Trump personally received him with a hand on his shoulder, guiding him inside. Notably, Zelensky wore a formal suit—deviating from his usual military-style attire during foreign visits. The wardrobe change quickly went viral, sparking speculation and commentary online. Trump Seals the Deal Behind the scenes of this seemingly relaxed and cheerful summit, Trump managed to strike multi-crore weapons deals while setting the stage for a new round of diplomacy. Russia's Relentless Attacks Even as ceasefire talks continued in Washington, Russian forces launched one of the largest attacks in months—firing 270 drones and 10 missiles on various Ukrainian cities. Ukraine's defense ministry reported that 16 locations were successfully hit, including areas with no active conflict, prompting accusations that Putin is undermining peace efforts. Theories Behind Russia's Offensive Military analysts propose two possibilities: Russia aims to push back Ukrainian forces to strengthen its hold on disputed territories before any formal ceasefire. Russia may be trying to create a "no man's land" buffer zone to reduce the risk of retaliation after a ceasefire. Agendas for Peace Zelensky has repeatedly stated he is open to a ceasefire if Ukraine's security is guaranteed. During his meeting with Trump, the U.S. President made a surprising statement about ceasefires, revealing that while he often talks of peace, his real record is full of deals—not disarmament.
