Jordan Condemns Israeli Law Banning Diplomatic Missions in East Jerusalem

Al Dustour30-10-2024

Amman
The Ministry of Foreign and Expatriates condemned the Israeli Knesset's recent approval of a law that obstructs the establishment of diplomatic missions for the State of Palestine in occupied East Jerusalem.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the ministry said that all Israeli actions aimed at altering the demographic composition, character, and status of the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly East Jerusalem, are deemed null and void, lacking any legal validity.
Official spokesperson for the ministry, Sufian Qudah, underscored the need for Israel, as the occupying power, to cease all ongoing violations and breaches of the historical and legal status quo in occupied Jerusalem. He called for an end to the policy of imposing new facts on the ground amid Israel's continued aggression in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, along with escalating incursions and attacks on Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.
Qudah emphasized that Israeli attempts to annex occupied Jerusalem violate international law, United Nations Security Council resolutions, and the recent advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice. He reiterated that the Israeli presence in Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, constitutes illegal occupation that must be resolved, advocating for a two-state solution that establishes an independent and sovereign Palestinian state along the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He renewed his appeal to the international community, particularly the Security Council, to adopt a clear and firm stance against these violations and to take action to halt them.

'Israeli' minister storms West Bank village

Israeli Occupation Defense Minister Yisrael Katz stormed the Palestinian village of Sanur, south of Jenin, on Friday, one of several sites where the 'Israeli' government has approved the construction of new illegal settlements. Sanur was previously evacuated of settlers in 2005 as part of the unilateral disengagement plan under then-Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. During his provocative visit, Katz declared that the Israeli Occupation plans to build the so-called 'Jewish Israeli state' in the occupied West Bank. 'This is a firm response to those trying to harm us and weaken our grip on this land,' Katz said in a statement issued by his office. His comments came in response to French President Emmanuel Macron's recent remarks calling recognition of a Palestinian state a moral obligation and a political necessity. 'They will recognize a Palestinian state on paper,' Katz claimed, 'but we will build the Jewish Israeli state here on the ground.'

Hamas receives 'Israeli' response to US truce proposal

Hamas has received the 'Israeli' response to a US-backed ceasefire proposal for Gaza and is reviewing it carefully, but the group says it falls far short of Palestinian demands, senior Hamas official Basem Naim told Reuters on Friday, May 30, 2025. 'The response does not meet any of the just and legitimate demands of the Palestinian people,' Naim said, emphasizing the group's dissatisfaction. According to Reuters, the American proposal outlines a 60-day ceasefire. During the first week, it calls for the release of 28 'Israeli' captives—both living and deceased—in exchange for 125 Palestinian political prisoners serving life sentences and the handover of the remains of 180 Palestinians. The plan, which the White House says is guaranteed by US President Donald Trump and mediators from Egypt and Qatar, also includes immediate humanitarian aid to Gaza upon Hamas signing the agreement. The deal obligates Hamas to release the final 30 'Israeli' captives once a permanent ceasefire is reached. On Thursday, the White House confirmed that Israeli Occupation had officially accepted the American proposal. However, in further comments to CNN, a senior Hamas official revealed that the group had previously submitted a detailed counterproposal via Palestinian-American envoy Bashara Bahbah to Trump's Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff. Hamas was reportedly 'shocked' by the US response, describing it as an 'Israeli document,' according to the official. Hamas's original counterproposal included three key demands: The release of all 'Israeli' captives. A 60-day ceasefire with American guarantees for continued negotiations leading to a permanent truce. The delivery of humanitarian aid through United Nations channels, and a withdrawal of 'Israeli' forces from areas occupied after March 2, 2025. Sources told CNN that these points were indeed communicated during discussions with Bahbah and shared with Witkoff. However, Hamas was surprised to find that none of its core demands were reflected in the latest proposal, reinforcing their belief that the document was shaped primarily by 'Israeli' interests.

Aid for over 200,000 people ready in Amman, just hours from Gaza

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced Friday that its warehouse in Amman, located just a three-hour drive from Gaza, holds enough humanitarian supplies to support more than 200,000 people for an entire month. In a post on X, the agency said that flour, food parcels, hygiene kits, blankets, and medical supplies are fully stocked and ready for immediate delivery. UNRWA stressed the urgent need for these supplies to reach Gaza without delay or obstruction. Jordan, in ongoing international discussions, has reiterated the need for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and a swift end to the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in the besieged strip. The Kingdom continues to call for the full opening of all border crossings to allow immediate and sufficient humanitarian aid into all areas of Gaza and to enable UN agencies to distribute it effectively. Jordan has also condemned what it describes as the 'Israeli' government's inhumane starvation tactics and emphasized that stopping these policies must be a top international priority. It warned that the brutality of Israeli Occupation's assault on Gaza and its systematic starvation strategy have crossed all boundaries and violated every humanitarian and international legal standard, calling for urgent global intervention.
