
Saudi Arabia ranks among top countries in global IP index with 55% score surge
RIYADH — Saudi Arabia has recorded a significant leap in the 2025 edition of the International Intellectual Property Index, issued by the American Chamber of Commerce, achieving a 55% increase in its overall score — one of the highest gains among the 30 global economies covered by the report.
The Kingdom's performance reflects its growing commitment to fostering innovation and building a robust intellectual property (IP) ecosystem.
According to the report, Saudi Arabia's overall IP index rating rose from 36.6% in 2019 to 53.7% in 2025 — a cumulative improvement of more than 40% in just six years.
Key advancements cited in the report include the extension of design protection terms to 15 years, the establishment of a specialized prosecution office for IP cases, and enhancements in digital enforcement of copyright and trademark laws.
This achievement is attributed to the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) and its efforts, in collaboration with relevant government entities, to develop a modern and integrated IP framework that attracts investors, supports creators, and positions the Kingdom as a rising player in the global knowledge economy.

Patent filings in Saudi Arabia jump by 13%
RIYADH — The number of patent applications filed with the Saudi Intellectual Property Authority (SAIP) increased by approximately 8,029 in 2024, representing a growth rate of 13.33% compared to 2023, according to the 2024 Intellectual Property Information Statistical Report, which reviews the most prominent indicators in the field of intellectual property. The report includes a detailed analysis of the performance of several sub-indicators for applicants, the most prominent trends and technical fields, and indicators for measuring national context activity. It also indicates unprecedented numbers in the most prominent areas of intellectual property, with individual applicants recording a significant presence, which boosted the number of applications filed by 62%. SAIP received approximately 4,921 patent applications filed from outside Saudi Arabia, a 15% increase, while filed design applications also registered an 8.75% growth. Trademark registration applications exceeded previous levels by 15.72%, and SAIP witnessed a 63.15% growth in applications submitted for voluntary registration of copyright works. Regarding patents, SAIP issued approximately 4,355 patent documents in 2024, in addition to 1,578 design certificates. SAIP seeks to regulate intellectual property rights, protect owners' rights in various fields, and raise awareness of the importance of this specialty. It also registered approximately 1,504 voluntary registration certificates for copyright works, in addition to 31,834 trademarks, reinforcing SAIP's ongoing efforts to improve the efficiency of examination processes and expedite decision-making procedures with the aim of achieving excellence in intellectual property operations. Egypt committed to fostering investor-friendly business environment: FM
Egypt - Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk affirmed that Egypt's economic indicators have witnessed significant improvement, highlighting that fiscal policies have adopted a new approach focused on balancing continued financial discipline with a strong push to stimulate private sector-led growth. Speaking during a meeting with members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Washington — held on the sidelines of the IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings and the G20 Meetings — Kouchouk emphasized that driving production, exports, manufacturing, and tourism will be a central priority in the upcoming 2025/2026 fiscal year budget. He noted that ongoing tax and customs reforms are now centered on building trust, partnership, and certainty with the business community, while efforts are underway to broaden the tax base by encouraging voluntary compliance through attractive facilitation packages aimed at bringing in new taxpayers. Kouchouk pointed out that Egypt's financial performance over the past nine months has been both encouraging and ambitious, reflecting the vast potential of the Egyptian economy. He added that promising investment opportunities are available for both local and foreign private sector players, stressing that the government is fully mobilizing its economic capacity to attract increased domestic and foreign investment flows. He further highlighted that the government has realigned its economic priorities and targets to strengthen Egypt's regional and international competitiveness. The Minister stressed that members of the government are working in continuous harmony and coordination to create a more investor-friendly business environment. He emphasized Egypt's comprehensive vision for structural reforms across all sectors to boost economic activity, productivity, and competitiveness. Acknowledging the scale of current economic challenges, Kouchouk said the government is adopting a highly flexible approach to ease the burdens on production, manufacturing, and exports. He expressed optimism for increased American investments across several key sectors and outlined Egypt's ambition to attract advanced technology transfers. He added that the government is making every effort to position Egypt as a regional hub for production and exports, while remaining committed to a strategy aimed at reducing debt burdens and costs, improving debt indicators, and diversifying financing sources and instruments over the medium term.
