For all the chopping and changing at Stamford Bridge, Terry — who mentors players in the academy — can see a bright future after a summer of success.
Eight months ago, boss Enzo Maresca was shooting down suggestions of a title challenge.
Six months ago, the fans were chanting angrily towards their manager that they wanted 'their Chelsea back'.
Since then, Todd Boehly's Blues have claimed a Champions League place, won the Conference League and the Club World Cup.

And JT - who has exclusively revealed he's made a decision about his own future in the game - does not think Maresca will talk down their title hopes any more.
The Chelsea legend, 44, told SunSport: 'I really liked the honesty from the manager because the message is clear to the players. We're not there yet.
'If you're the manager now coming into that dressing room and you're going, 'We've got a chance this year', the players will think we've got a chance. This year I think his message will be different.
'He was spot on because we were young, it was a little bit up and down last year. At the moment, we're clearly building and moving in the right direction.

'I'm not sitting here saying I want to wait five years to win another Premier League. We've got to go into it 100 per cent with the mindset of going, 'Yes, we have to try to win the league this year'.
'Without a shadow of a doubt. But there's other big competitions as well.

'You fight right to the end until it's not possible. The Premier League was done last season, Liverpool were very good last year and rightly the winners. We have to compete for that again.'
Key to success will be whether or not the fledgling leaders within Maresca's squad can find another level.
Reece James, 25, was called out by his manager last season for not doing enough as a captain but has stepped up since.
Centre-back Levi Colwill looked to be following in Terry's footsteps at the back before his cruel ACL injury last week.
And Chelsea's 15-time trophy-winning former skipper has long been impressed by Enzo Fernandez.
But James staying fit and leading on the pitch will be vital after missing months at a time with hamstring, knee and thigh problems.

Terry added: 'For Reece, concentrate on staying fit and having a fully-fit season for him is the most important thing. He can make such a difference.
'We've seen the quality. When Reece is at it, he is the world's best right-back.
'When you've picked up a couple of injuries like Reece has had, it's difficult to really feel like you belong.
'So when you start demanding from people around you, when you're the one not playing, that's also very difficult.
'When you're in the starting line-up week in, week out, it's easy to command and run the dressing room — and the standards of the football club.'
Terry made more than 500 appearances as captain and says boss Jose Mourinho always demanded his skipper be robust and a regular.
JT said: 'You need to be robust. You need to understand that you can push through little injuries, niggles, and you can kind of come out the other side of it.
'You need to manage your body throughout the week and all of that.'
As well as mentoring players in the Under-18s and U21s, Terry stops in to catch up and offer support to players such as James and Colwill.
He even spoke to the pair of defenders before this interview.

Terry added: 'We talk generally about football and some situations — but it's super relaxed.
'Out of pure respect, I don't get too involved because I fully respect the manager and his role.
'I would never want to say something that goes against what he's saying to those players.
'But the boys know I'm always there if they need me.
'Not just the defenders but the ones that have just arrived. Always here to help. That's my role as someone who has been at Chelsea for so long and the club means the world to me.'
And that is the clubman role he wants some of his academy predecessors to take up.
Terry said: 'You've got Reece and there's a few other boys that really live and breathe Chelsea.
'But the boys that come in and really buy into the club, this is where the importance of Reece, Levi and the academy graduates really play an important role.
'This is how we do it. This is what we do at Chelsea. We win football trophies and we win cups on a regular basis.
'All the top clubs have that. Man United have that, Liverpool have that, Arsenal. Spurs not so much . . .

'But all the big football clubs have that — they find a way to win.
'So in terms of where we were last year . . . a little bit inexperienced. Thiago Silva left and all of that. But the team managed to find a way to win.'
Terry also believes recent successes will be transformative for the Blues.
While the Conference League would have been scoffed at during Terry's era had it existed, now it is viewed as a stepping stone within the camp.
He said: 'It gives you belief, back when we won our first one, the 2004-05 Carling Cup at Cardiff, it gives you belief that it can be done within the squad.
'When you're a young group, it ripples throughout the whole squad of players.'
If this group can match what Terry and his team-mates did after that Carling Cup win 20 years ago, the Blues will be in for one hell of a ride once more.

Daniel Sturridge says Man Utd ace was 'best player on the pitch' against Arsenal

Daniel Sturridge hailed Manchester United summer signing Matheus Cunha as the 'best player on the pitch' after the opening-day defeat to Arsenal. United, who finished 15th in the Premier League last season, produced an improved performance at Old Trafford but still fell to a defeat, Riccardo Calafiori scoring the only goal of the game. Calafiori was on hand on the line to head home in the 13th-minute after Altay Bayindir flapped at Declan Rice's inswinging corner. Both teams had chances to score after Calafiori's opener but the game finished 1-0 with Mikel Arteta's side returning to north London with three points. While United suffered yet another home defeat under Amorim, there were signs of progress from the Red Devils, particularly with summer signings Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Metro's new weekly football newsletter: In The Mixer. Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every Friday – sign up, it's an open goal. 'I thought Cunha lit the place up today,' ex-England striker Sturridge said on Sky Sports. 'He was Man United's best player and for me, maybe the best player on the pitch. 'What he will bring is something different to United, they haven't had someone like him. He will get fans on the edge of their seat. He's going to be a special player for the team. 'United showed a different side to Arsenal that we haven't seen in that they were a bit more open, especially in central areas. 'All in all United's attack will be going away and thinking to themselves, 'On another day I could be walking away with one or two'. 'If I was Mbeumo I would be going to bed thinking, 'Wow, I should have left with a goal today'.' Ex-Manchester United captain Roy Keane was also 'encouraged' by aspects of the hosts' performance but said there were still 'problems' throughout the team. 'The expectations at United now are so low, that even Gary [Neville] said on commentary, everyone is OK with a 1-0 defeat,' he said. 'They've got to do better. 'It does worry me. Some of the new signings, there was encouragement with that. They were getting you up the pitch with a bit of power. 'Things will improve, it's tough against Arsenal, but no goals and another defeat. There's still problems there with Manchester United.' Old Trafford boss Ruben Amorim, meanwhile, felt his team 'deserved more' against Arsenal and claimed United were the 'better team'. 'We deserved more and we were the better team, that is clear but in the end we lost,' he said. 'We need to work on the things we need to improve. We need to defend set pieces. But we did a lot things right. More Trending 'There are a lot of things without seeing the video that we need to work. I am really proud of my players. 'We were more aggressive and brave. In certain moments I think Bryan [Mbeumo] and Cunha helped a lot. 'We stuck to the plan even when the stadium is nervous, we continued to play the way we played and that will help us in the future.' Manchester United will look for their first points of the new season next Sunday when they face Fulham at Craven Cottage. For more stories like this, check our sport page. Roy Keane explains why Arsenal fall short in Premier League title races

Roy Keane has named a key reason why Arsenal have fallen short to Liverpool and Manchester City in recent Premier League title races. The Gunners have finished as runners-up in the top-flight for the last three seasons in a row – with Liverpool clinching the trophy last time around. In the two campaigns before that, Arsenal missed out to City, with the north London club having not won the Premier League title since 2004. Keane, speaking after Arsenal beat his former club Manchester United 1-0 on Sunday, feels the reason is because the Gunners do not kill games off in the same way that Arne Slot's side or Pep Guardiola's men do. 'You wonder why Arsenal are still coming up short – it's because they are still happy to sit back at 1-0,' Keane said on Sky Sports. Metro's new weekly football newsletter: In The Mixer. Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every Friday – sign up, it's an open goal. 'And then you think, is that the reason you drew so many games last year? You compare that to Man City and Liverpool. 'They are always looking to go on and get the second or the third. Even on a bad day they can score two or three goals.' Keane added: 'The sign of a really good team is when you're not at your best and you win football matches. 'The worry for me in the second half is there were opportunities to really go at Man Utd, but they seemed off it from that point of view. 'Arsenal need to be clinical in their play and really go for that second or third goal.' Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta admits his side were 'clearly not' at their best at Old Trafford – but was delighted with the 'resilience' the Gunners showed. Speaking to the BBC, Arteta said: 'We came here away and won which is a big result. We were clearly not at our best. More Trending 'We attacked the box and we reacted well to unusual mistakes. The team reacted time after time in an incredible way. Very proud of that because that is why we got the opportunity to win the game. 'We showed a resilience and a will to win. They put you on the ropes here, you will have to have moments when you suffer. To find a way to win at this ground, I'm very happy with the team. '[The new signings] have made a good impact on the team, they had a great attitude. 'Physically some of them are still not at the level we require for 95 minutes but we will get there.' Why Eberechi Eze holds the key to the cruel crossroads facing Crystal Palace

It was yet another game where you could see why the Premier League 's wealthiest clubs want Eberechi Eze and half of Crystal Palace 's players. It was also another game where you could see why there have been some doubts over whether Chelsea can go from world champions to champions of their own country. Enzo Maresca's team arguably deserved to lose this 0-0 at Stamford Bridge, and possibly would have had Eze's fine early free-kick not been disallowed for Marc Guehi's 'interference' with the wall. It had the look and feel of one of those decisions that are always zealously cracked down on for a brief period, but that no one would otherwise complain about. Chelsea didn't complain too much in the moment. After the game, Maresca fairly pointed out this was his side's first game after that Club World Cup. The new summer tournament may yet have a considerable effect on their season, since it seemed to leave them undercooked here. Palace, meanwhile, continued an already historic year. This was their 25th game of the year, and they have only lost three. Of those, the last 10 have involved six matches either away or at Wembley against the old 'big six', and another FA Cup semi-final against Aston Villa. They are unbeaten in all of them, and have won two trophies. In short, Palace have become that team that the title challengers and more entitled wealthy clubs absolutely detest playing. There's always one, but Oliver Glasner has possibly taken this side even further than any of them. Maresca said 'we know how tough they are, how well organised they are' but that was understating it. They're a serious side, a robust defence complemented by an exhilarating attack when it gets into flow. From that, unlike so many similar upwardly mobile teams, Palace also got that landmark silverware through the FA Cup. They look capable of so much more, which is why it is such a shame that it may be stripped for parts. That is modern football and its stratified economy, which led to this game being almost entirely framed by Eze's potential departure for Tottenham Hotspur. His very place in the starting line-up became a significant part of the story, with his lingering applause to Palace's travelling fans afterward only adding to it. In between, there were of course shots of Spurs consultant Fabio Paritici in the crowd. It's hard not to conclude that Eze's signing was discussed, although there is a lot of conflicting information about where the story is at. From speaking to people on various sides of the situation, The Independent understands the following: there was considerable progress over Friday and Saturday, where it looked like a deal could be struck for £55m plus add-ons. Sources even state that the idea of Eze not playing at Stamford Bridge was talked about. After the actual game, Glasner re-iterated t hat he was always going to play and that 'as long as he's a Palace player, he plays'. That points to the caveat, of course, since it could well have been the case that he was almost out of the door by Sunday morning. Instead, The Independent reported on Saturday evening that the negotiations had run into 'difficulties'. There were claims that this was about Palace wanting more of the fee up front, so they could immediately commit to Eze's putative replacement, Leicester City's Bilal El Khannouss. Leicester themselves need the money coming in. Palace are meanwhile looking at Club Brugge's Christos Tzolis. There is naturally a lot of brinkmanship to this, as well as a chain of purchases and sales that almost resembles the property market. While there are still obstacles, Spurs are understood to right now have a clear run. Arsenal had been interested in Eze all summer, but that was mostly because of the genuine belief that Ethan Nwaneri could have gone to Borussia Dortmund. As it was, Nwaneri committed, and Mikel Arteta now has a lot of options in the centre and on the right - exactly where Eze excels. Arsenal will only make another purchase if they can sell, and they are next prioritising a left-sided player. Talks with Spurs, and Spurs alone, are consequently expected to continue. For now, Glasner of course insisted that Eze will play in Palace's Europa Conference League play-off qualifier against Fredrikstad on Thursday, having been demoted from the Europa League after Monday's CAS case. This match at Stamford Bridge was soundtracked by chants about that situation - much of it not repeatable here. It would feel fitting if Eze at least fully carried Palace through to European competition proper. He was sparkling in so many other ways here, particularly one brilliant drive that almost caught out Robert Sanchez late on. On the other side, it was a largely quiet game for a lot of Chelsea's stars. Joshua Acheampong coped well with his promotion to the starting line-up, especially with the midfield in front of him looking flat. Jamie Gittens only offered promise. Liam Delap was active when he came on, and there was naturally a lot of anticipation when Estevao was introduced. The Brazilian teenager has been hailed as one of the brightest talents in football. There were only flickers of it here. While he looked so exciting when taking on players down the right, he did snatch at one good opening late on. It would have been very harsh on Palace had that gone in. It is already harsh that modern football is putting a team in a situation when they get to a moment of history, only to have their future stunted. You can certainly see why they generate such interest, though.
