ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)Abu Dhabi is set to host the 25th IUHPE World Conference on Health Promotion from May 13–16 2025, marking the first time the global gathering will be held in the Middle East.Co-hosted by the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE) and the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC), the conference will take place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). It will convene more than 2,000 global leaders, including health professionals, researchers, educators, policymakers, and community advocates from worldwide.Themed Settings for Planetary Health and Well-being, the four-day event will focus on real-world strategies to address global health threats, from non-communicable diseases and mental health to climate change and emergency preparedness.Through a series of keynote speeches, high-level panels, workshops, and networking forums, the conference will bridge the gap between research and practice, offering fresh solutions to some of the most complex challenges facing communities worldwide.Dr. Rashed Al Suwaidi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, said: 'This milestone event reflects Abu Dhabi's commitment to advancing global health and sustainability. It underscores our transition from healthcare to health, placing prevention, innovation, and planetary well-being at the heart of our vision.'Sione Tu'itahi, IUHPE President, said: 'As humanity faces converging global health and planetary challenges, it's deeply symbolic and necessary that we gather for the first time in the MENA region, the cradle of civilisation, to shape collective solutions.'Now in its 74th year, the IUHPE World Conference is recognised as the world's leading platform for advancing health promotion and education. The decision to bring the event to Abu Dhabi highlights the emirate's growing leadership in public health, research, and policy innovation.The conference will cover a broad spectrum of issues including health literate settings like schools, workplaces, cities, in addition to global diplomacy and emergency preparedness, digital health transformation, and health and well-being promoting policies, and finally health equity and its determinants and precision health promotion.The call for abstracts received a global response, with submissions from countries including the UAE, India, Australia, Ghana, Taiwan, Canada, Morocco, the United Kingdom, Uganda, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, France, the United States, Zambia, Brazil, and Switzerland.
With the IUHPE 2025 conference, Abu Dhabi strengthens its positioning as a global centre for health policy, knowledge exchange, and systems innovation. Attendees will experience cutting-edge dialogue, and the emirate's rich cultural heritage and commitment to public health and sustainability.

13 June 2025 12:38 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)The Endowments and Minors Funds' Authority (Awqaf Abu Dhabi) has launched Box Hub, an endowment project with a value of Dh10 million in support of the Life Endowment campaign, launched recently by Awqaf Abu Dhabi under the slogan With You For campaign aims to enhance the sustainability of healthcare services and cover treatment costs for chronic illness patients and People of Abu Dhabi also announced that it will allocate Dh1.3 million, received via 182,000 community contributions, to help fund the Box Hub endowment project in Abu initiative showcases an innovative approach to endowment, where community members collaborate to create a vibrant community project. The proceeds from Box Hub will be directed to the Life Endowment campaign, which enhances the sustainability of healthcare services and provides long-term funding for treating chronic illness patients and People of Box Hub project aims to create a unique, dynamic community that blends various dining, entertainment and shopping experiences, in a family-friendly atmosphere that meets the expectations of community project offers community members from all backgrounds and age groups to meet up and have a good time, in a lively environment. Box Hub will feature a drive through option and convenient walking tracks, making it an ideal destination for families to enjoy their development of the Box Hub project is scheduled to start at the end of 2025 and will continue for approximately 18 months. Official opening of the project will take place in a gesture of gratitude and appreciation for the community's contributions, Awqaf Abu Dhabi announced that the names of all Box Hub project contributors will be inscribed on a dedicated mural within the project site, in recognition of their support for the Life Endowment Excellency Fahad Abdul Qader Al Qassim, Director General of Awqaf Abu Dhabi, said: 'The Box Hub project embodies Awqaf Abu Dhabi's commitment to developing sustainable endowment solutions that enhance quality of life. This initiative aligns with our vision to strengthen the role of endowment in supporting vital sectors, especially healthcare, by empowering all members of society to contribute to positive change. 'Box Hub reflects the community's collaborative spirit in supporting the Life Endowment campaign. This project exemplifies community-based endowments, providing a sustainable platform for recreation and economic activity, with proceeds directly benefiting individuals with chronic illnesses and People of Determination, easing the burden on them and their families.'Through the contribution it receives, the Life Endowment campaign aims to establish an endowment dedicated to cover the cost of treatment for chronic illness patients and People of Determination, as well as invest the endowment proceeds in providing medication, and supporting the healthcare system, enhancing its capacity to navigate future challenges. The campaign also aims to maximise the returns of the endowment and direct them toward healthcare programmes that improve quality of life and help build a healthy, sustainable society. The initiative seeks to promote the concept of endowment as a development tool that supports social solidarity, and highlights the UAE's pioneering role in supporting charitable and humanitarian initiatives and promoting social investment.

9 June 2025 22:01 SAMIHAH ZAMAN (ALETIHAD)A trio of global experts in paediatrics and a top orthopaedic surgeon are offering care and consultations in Abu Dhabi this month, the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) has doctors are headed to the emirate as part of the DoH's Visiting Physicians Programme, which aims to extend advanced healthcare services to residents.'The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi welcomes top-tier doctors from around the world to the Emirate during June, offering exceptional healthcare services through the Visiting Physicians Programme,' the DoH - Abu Dhabi's health regulator - announced in a post on its social media platforms. Visiting Physicians: June (From left to right) Dr. Kaveh Asadi, Dr. Matthew Dobbs, and Professor Oliver Berborgt are offering care in Abu Dhabi this June Dr. Kaveh Asadi, paediatric neurosurgery consultant at St Mary Hospital, Paley Institute in Florida, US, is one of the eminent doctors who will see patients in Abu Dhabi. He will be available at Burjeel Medical City's Paley Middle East Centre between June 9-13, and also on June 23. Dr. Asadi specialises in selective dorsal rhizotomy for the treatment of cerebral palsy, intra dural tumour treatment, craniofacial surgery, and tethered cord Matthew Dobbs, paediatric orthopaedic consultant at St. Mary Hospital in the US, will also join Dr. Asadi at the Burjeel Medical City between June 9-13. Dr. Dobbs' areas of specialisation include the treatment of congenital and developmental foot, lower extremity deformities, flatfoot deformities, cerebral palsy spasticity, and Oliver Verborgt, head of services for orthopaedics at Belgium's Monica Hospital, will also offer his expert care at the Tarmeem Hospital in Abu Dhabi on June 27 and 28. Prof Verborgt specialises in shoulder and elbow surgeries and reconstruction, and in the management of sports-related DoH has urged patients to directly contact the respective hospitals to book appointments. Earlier this month, Dr. Annique Hogan, an award-winning physician and paediatrician at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, also saw patients at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, sharing her expert advice on the care of children with complex medical needs. Complex Care Close to Home The DoH's Visiting Physicians Programme breaks new ground every month, ensuring care for complex medical conditions within Abu Dhabi. Since its launch in 2021, the programme has partnered with leading global health institutions to offer treatment and surgeries for patients in the region while eliminating the need for them to travel of December 2024, a total of 3,277 patients with rare and complex medical conditions had received care in Abu Dhabi as part of the to the DoH, the top five specialties in which visiting physicians offer care include paediatric haematology for bone marrow transplants; plastic surgery for lymphedema and brachial plexus; adult orthopaedic surgeries for complex ankle, foot, shoulder, hand and scoliosis; paediatric orthopaedic care for limb lengthening and limb deformities; and ophthalmology. The programme has also allowed for knowledge transfer, the enhancement of local healthcare expertise and post-surgical rehabilitation care, and the improvement of health outcomes throughout Abu Dhabi.
