TUI Hotels & Resorts contributes to growth in Africa with strong leisure hotel brands
New openings planned in The Gambia and Côte d'Ivoire
New luxury brand The Mora celebrates its first anniversary
TUI Group (www.TUIGroup.com) continues to expand its hotel business worldwide and pursues ambitious plans to support the African hospitality industry. With its 12 leisure hotel brands, TUI offers unique experiences for holidaymakers and invites them to enjoy the respective region with its culinary delights, natural beauty and cultural heritage. A few weeks ago, the brands TUI Blue and TUI Suneo expanded their portfolio in Africa. In Egypt, TUI Blue Samaya with 143 rooms and an aqua park has been added to the premium brand's portfolio. The hotel is located in the growing destination of Marsa Alam. For holidaymakers looking for value for money, TUI Suneo Palm Beach Skanes in Tunisia has also opened its doors. With 294 rooms and a large garden area, the hotel is offering an attractive all-inclusive package with a wide range of sports and entertainment options.
'Together with our long-standing JV partners, we have more than 20 hotels in our pipeline that will open in Africa in the coming months and years', says Artur Gerber, Managing Director TUI Hotels&Resorts, at the Future Hospitality Summit Africa. 'We already have a strong presence in North Africa, the Cape Verde Islands and Zanzibar, but we are convinced that other destinations can also benefit from our strong leisure hotel brands.' For example, the lifestyle brand TUI Blue is planning its first hotel in The Gambia, which will open at the end of this year. The resort features 140 rooms and a unique location along Kotu Beach. 'With our expertise, along with management and franchise agreements, we are also attracting hotel partners in entirely new destinations. One example is Côte d'Ivoire, where the construction of a new TUI Blue hotel has just started and is scheduled to open in 2027', adds Wesam Okasha, Head of Global Development TUI Blue.
Last year, TUI launched a new brand targeting the upscale market and selected Tanzania as its inaugural destination. The Mora Zanzibar has just celebrated its first anniversary, offering laid-back, contemporary luxury with highly personalized and flexible service. 'Our guest reviews show that The Mora is resonating strongly with this new audience and delivering an exceptional experience. We are very proud of this achievement and look forward to introducing more carefully selected The Mora hotels across Africa,' says Artur Gerber.
TUI Hotels&Resorts' current portfolio in Africa comprises a total of 97 hotels with over 30,000 rooms across eight countries.

Industrialisation-led growth necessary for Nigeria's economic resurgence — NESG
The Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) has invited stakeholders to chart a bold, new course for Nigeria's industrialisation and economic future, as the country gears up for the 31st Nigerian Economic Summit (NES #31). The spotlight will focus on a critical lever for economic transformation: Driving Industrialisation-led Growth. The NESG said this sub-theme, central to this year's discourse, reinforces the urgent need to revitalise Nigeria's industrial base as a pathway to sustainable development, job creation, export competitiveness, and inclusive prosperity. According to the NESG, with the Summit scheduled to hold from October 6–7, 2025, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, Nigeria's path to prosperity hinges on its ability to transition from a consumption-driven to a production-based economy. It added that despite its large population and abundant natural resources, Nigeria has struggled with deindustrialisation, overdependence on imports, and limited value addition in key sectors. 'Industrialisation offers a strategic solution to these challenges by unlocking the country's manufacturing potential, enhancing productivity, and strengthening linkages across agriculture, extractives, and services,' the NESG stated. It pointed out that through this sub-theme, NES #31 will convene industry leaders, policymakers, financiers, development partners, and entrepreneurs to examine how Nigeria can build globally competitive industries anchored in innovation, local content development, and enabling infrastructure. 'It will also explore how industrial policy can be better aligned with market realities, technological trends, and Nigeria's demographic advantage,' it further noted. Under the sub-theme, the NESG said the focus areas will cover 'The discussions under Driving Industrialisation-led Growth will centre on: Revamping Industrial Policy: Reviewing and modernising Nigeria's industrial strategies to reflect contemporary global and regional trends, including the AfCFTA and digital transformation. SME Competitiveness: Supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as engines of innovation, job creation, and industrial diversification. Value Chain Development: Promoting backwards and forward integration, especially in agribusiness, mining, and pharmaceuticals, to maximise local content and export potential. Technology and Innovation: Leveraging Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies to scale productivity and competitiveness in manufacturing. Access to Finance: Catalysing private sector investment and innovative financing mechanisms to unlock capital for industrial growth'. Delving into the pillars for progress: Reforms, Resilience, Results, the NESG highlighted: 'Guided by the NES #31 strategic pillars—Reforms, Resilience, and Results—this sub-theme will stress the importance of reforming Nigeria's regulatory and infrastructure landscape to enable industrial take-off. From streamlined business processes and improved power supply to trade facilitation and skills development, Nigeria must build resilient systems that deliver tangible results. Industrialisation is not just about factories—it is about creating a national ecosystem of productivity, where skilled labour, reliable infrastructure, access to finance, and supportive policies work together to generate wealth and economic opportunities for millions'. Calling for coordinated action, the NESG said, 'the journey to industrialisation requires more than rhetoric—it demands intentional collaboration across the public and private sectors. NES #31 presents a unique opportunity for stakeholders to forge partnerships, commit to reform implementation, and co-create a future where Nigeria becomes the industrial powerhouse of West Africa. 'Through robust dialogue and shared accountability, the Summit will inspire actionable strategies that move Nigeria beyond resource dependence towards a diversified, innovation-led economy that works for all.' The Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) is Nigeria's leading private sector think tank and policy advocacy organisation; since 1993, it has promoted inclusive economic growth through evidence-based research, stakeholder engagement, and its flagship annual Nigerian Economic Summit—Nigeria's foremost platform for public-private dialogue.

Oman can leverage AI to boost transparency
SALALAH - Secure and targeted use of artificial intelligence can help Oman's government and private sector enhance transparency, performance, and citizen engagement, according to Jennifer McGinty, founder and director of McGinty Consulting. On her first visit to Oman, McGinty speak at the Labour Forum 2025, organised by the Ministry of Labour, on how AI can be used effectively and safely. She said her aim was to introduce employees to practical tools while stressing the importance of data security. 'I have a lot of experience working with large private companies such as Indeed, Bain & Company, Deloitte, and USAID, which excel in using AI tools. But I've noticed that in the Middle East, North Africa, and even the U.S., government agencies are far behind,' she told the Observer. 'If they are using AI tools, they are often not using them in a safe and secure way. Some are putting proprietary information — private data about citizens and their governments — into public AI platforms that are not securely stored.' McGinty said Oman's Vision 2040 — particularly its focus on youth employment — offers an excellent opportunity to use digital platforms to connect young people with government programmes. 'Oman has a great opportunity to use these AI tools to communicate directly with citizens — through emails, public platforms, or social media,' she said. 'I hope the Ministry of Labour will take some of these tools and use them to improve communication.' For decision-makers, especially in AI departments across ministries and in the private sector, she recommended starting with a needs-based or baseline study. 'You have to understand what employees are spending their time on and where they need help. Without that, you risk buying 20 different AI tools, and people will only use one or two — which is a waste of money,' she explained. Praising Oman as 'one of the most hospitable places' she has visited, McGinty added: 'People here are so respectful, much more than in many other countries I've been to. I'm very impressed.' 2025 © All right reserved for Oman Establishment for Press, Publication and Advertising (OEPPA) Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc. (
