Anthony Davis and LeBron James uploads same cryptic post on social media
Anthony Davis and LeBron James uploads same cryptic post on social media originally appeared on The Sporting News The internet has been buzzing on Tuesday when Anthony Davis and LeBron James reposted the same cryptic quote on their Instagram stories. During their time together playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, Davis and James have become close friends. They often hung out off the court and would even spend time with each one's families when given the opportunity. However, there have been rumors that their bond has been broken ever since Davis was traded to the Dallas Mavericks. At the last second before the trade deadline of the 2024-25 NBA season, the Mavericks and Lakers pulled off one of the biggest trades in league history. It was the first time two All-Star players were traded for each other in the middle of the regular season. Davis was sent to Dallas, while Los Angeles received Luka Doncic in return. Many claimed that everyone involved was blindsided by the jaw-dropping trade, including James. When Davis asked his longtime Lakers teammate if he was aware of Rob Pelinka's decision, James claimed he was left in the shadows. Despite their interaction, there were reports that Davis wasn't convinced of his former teammate's claims. As the season carried on, there were moments when Davis and James acted snobbish towards each other whenever the Mavericks would face off against the Lakers. Their friendship appeared strained and didn't seem as close as they once were. Fast forward to the present day, and it seems their friendship might be over. An X post went viral on social media on Tuesday. The post featured a couple of screenshots from Davis and James' Instagram stories. Both stars reposted the same quote, which reads: "Becoming the best version of yourself comes with a lot of goodbyes" Social media went into a frenzy and immediately thought of the worst possible outcome. Both stars made it seem like they've moved on from each other. However, readers should take this with a grain of salt. As of this writing, neither of the two stars has confirmed whether or not they've cut ties with each one.

Boston Celtics sign coach Joe Mazzulla to contract extension
Aug. 8 (UPI) -- The Boston Celtics signed coach Joe Mazzulla to a multi-year contract extension, the team announced Friday. Mazzulla went 182-64 over his first three seasons. "We are very excited that Joe has agreed to extend with the Celtics," Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens said in a news release. "He understands the job and has a passion for the Celtics that is only rivaled by our most die-hard fans. "He's worked hard and accomplished amazing things in his first three years as a head coach -- including averaging over 60 wins per season and winning the 2024 NBA Championship. Joe is a gifted leader who brings a consistent commitment to learning, improving, and maximizing each day we get to compete for the Boston Celtics." Mazzulla, 37, led the Celtics to a 61-21 record and No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference last season. They lost to the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference semifinals, ending their shot at a title defense. "This is truly a blessing," Mazzulla said. "I would not be here without my faith, my wife, and my children. We are thankful for the partnership with our ownership groups, Brad Stevens' mentorship, and the support of our staff. "Most importantly, I am grateful for the players I have been able to coach the past three seasons. I look forward to competing for the Celtics and the city of Boston." The Celtics will face the Memphis Grizzlies in their preseason opener Oct. 8 in Memphis.

"Never heard Michael Jordan say he's the greatest" - Isiah Thomas snapped at LeBron James for calling himself the GOAT
"Never heard Michael Jordan say he's the greatest" - Isiah Thomas snapped at LeBron James for calling himself the GOAT originally appeared on Basketball Network. When LeBron James called himself the greatest player of all time during a 2018 episode of "The Shop," it was bound to ruffle feathers. He made the comment while reflecting on leading the Cleveland Cavaliers back from a 3-1 deficit in the Finals against the 73-win Golden State Warriors. Some fans applauded the confidence. Some old-school legends saw it differently. Calling a timeout on LeBron Isiah Thomas was one of them. The Hall of Fame point guard, two-time NBA champion and leader of the "Bad Boy" Detroit Pistons has never been shy about speaking his mind. While Thomas has been supportive of James' case as arguably the greatest to ever play, he wasn't thrilled with the future Hall of Famer crowning himself the GOAT. "Everybody knows I love LeBron," Thomas began, "but I'm gonna call timeout on this one. I'll speak to LeBron, I'll say it to his face. You never — that's a certain thing about the greatness that demands you have humility with greatness. Even though we argue about Michael Jordan being the greatest of all time, or Kareem Abdul Jabbar being the greatest of all time, [or] LeBron James being the greatest of all time, we have those arguments and debate." "I have never heard Michael Jordan say he's the greatest of all time," he added. Thomas' words hit harder because of his history. He faced Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls in the late 1980s and early 1990s, trading blows with him in the playoffs four straight years. He played against Magic Johnson and Larry Bird when all three were in their primes. He saw firsthand what greatness looked like up close. To him, the highest level of respect came from letting others hand you that title rather than claiming it it personally Thomas didn't just question the humility in James' comment. He took it as a personal challenge on behalf of players everywhere. "All I know if I was in the league right now and you talking about you the greatest of all time, dude, I'm getting ready to do you. I'm coming at you. ... To say that is just totally disrespectful to me as one of your competitors," he said. It's a mentality rooted in his playing days. Thomas led the Pistons to back-to-back championships in 1989 and 1990. Detroit knocked off Bird's Boston Celtics, Magic's Los Angeles Lakers and Jordan's Bulls along the way. His game was built on competitive fire. If someone gave him bulletin board material, he used it. That mindset hasn't faded with time. James' 2016 championship was one of the most remarkable turnarounds in Finals history. He averaged 29.7 points, 11.3 rebounds and 8.9 assists in the series. His chase-down block in Game 7 has been replayed countless times. For LeBron, the victory cemented his legacy. Jordan's career included six championships, six Finals MVPs, five league MVPs and 10 scoring titles. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar retired with six championships, six MVPs and the all-time scoring record at the time. Neither publicly claimed the title of greatest ever. Thomas believes that the absence of self-proclamation is what made their greatness resonate even more. The GOAT debate will never end, and maybe that's the point. Every generation has its own standard-bearer, and the arguments are part of what keeps the NBA's history story was originally reported by Basketball Network on Aug 12, 2025, where it first appeared.
