Alleged double murderer's astonishing act just minutes after he's accused of killing a woman and beheading her partner
Ross Judd, 34, is alleged to have killed pregnant woman Athena Georgopoulos, 39, and decapitated her partner Andrew Gunn, 50, before putting the father-to-be's head on a spike.
Their bodies were found by a neighbour at a residence on Adrienne Crescent in Mount Waverley, Melbourne about 9.55pm on Monday.
Judd was arrested at Westall train station in the city's south-east about 1.40am on Tuesday.
Just a few hours earlier, shortly after 11pm, diners claimed to have seen a man matching his description walk into a McDonald's on Dandenong Rd in Clayton with two large German shepherds, who waited patiently at the door.
Dressed in a black jacket and not wearing shoes, he is said to have ordered two cheeseburgers with no pickles and a no-sugar Coke and wiped himself with some of the store's napkins before leaving about 11.25pm.
Pictures shared of the dogs and their distinctives scarves at the fast food restaurant prompted some people to comment that they has seen the well-behaved dogs and the man around the area previously.
A neighbour of the couple claimed to have heard arguing and barking dogs on the night of the alleged murders.
The neighbour who stumbled upon the gruesome scene spoke out on Wednesday.
'No one should have to come across what I saw down there,' said Ben Scott-Sandvik, who lives at the front unit in Mount Waverley block where the alleged double-murders took place.
'And nobody needs to live knowing that this sort of thing has happened to their families.'
Mr Scott-Sandvik spoke to the Herald Sun after the accused killer appeared at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
The homeless accused killer winked after he tripped as he walked to the dock.
He then smiled throughout the brief filing hearing over the two counts of murder.
The prosecution asked the court for a ten-week extension because 'it's a complex crime scene with significant amounts of DNA evidence'.
The prosecutor also said autopsies were expected to be delayed, as alleged murder victim Athena Georgopoulos, 39, was five months pregnant when she died.
Daily Mail can reveal Ms Georgopoulos was set to face a plea hearing at Ringwood Magistrates' Court on September 1 for car theft and burglary charges.
The alleged killer's legal aid lawyer did not oppose the unusually lengthy period to serve the brief, but told the court it was her client's first time in custody.
Judd also faces charges regarding previous allegations of making threats, the Daily Mail can reveal.
The lawyer also said Judd needed to see the custody nurse for 'follow-up medication and physical health issues'.
Ms Georgopoulos was allegedly killed alongside Mr Gunn in what police believe was a targeted attack at their Mount Waverley home, in Melbourne's south-east.
On Wednesday, her mother Petty Georgopoulos paid tribute to her daughter in a heartbreaking post on social media.
'My little heart, you left life so unfairly that I still cannot believe it,' she said in the touching Facebook post.
'In recent days you were so happy - we made dreams together for our little granddaughter that you were going to bring into your life.
'And suddenly, everything was erased in one night, when an [alleged] murderer cut the thread of your life and of my little granddaughter's life that you were going to bring into the world in four months.
'No matter how much they separated us, I will never stop loving you. Forever. Until we meet again, my little girl, in the light of the angels.'
She and Mr Gunn were found dead after police received calls from neighbours on Monday night about yelling coming from the property, and heavily armed police swarmed the Adrienne Crescent home at 9.55pm.
Inside the small unit, officers allegedly found Mr Gunn's mutilated body next to the body of Ms Georgopoulos.
Judd was arrested with two large dogs just hours later at nearby Westall Railway Station, about 6km from the crime scene, at around 1.40am on Tuesday.
Police allege Judd was known to the couple and that one of the victims lived in the unit, but they are still trying to establish the connection and alleged motive.
Ms Georgopoulos' aunt Patty Dilveridis said her niece was excited by the prospect of motherhood, and her mother Petty had recently met Mr Gunn's parents to celebrate their impending grandparenthood.
The dead woman worked as a customer service representative for several electricity and insurance companies, and had been Mr Gunn's partner for three years.
Ms Georgopoulos' cousin also posted a heartfelt tribute to the slain mum-to-be.
'My heart is completely broken,' the heartfelt post read.
'My dear cousin, you and your unborn baby were taken away too soon in the most devastating and senseless way. There are no words for this kind of pain - no way to understand why someone so full of life, love and promise could be taken away from us so violently.
'Rest in peace Athena, and your baby girl. We will never forget you. We will honour your memory and carry your love with us forever.
'May God grant your parents, brother, and your loved ones strength during this difficult time.'
Several of Ms Georgopoulos' friends also posted tributes to the mum-to-be.
'Rest in peace sweet soul. Thank you for every smile you brought to my face. Thank you for every laugh (of which there were many).
'You were part of what made LUMO so fun to work at. I can't imagine what you went through in the end. You deserved so much better. Love you girl. Fly high,' one friend posted.
Another wrote: 'Rest in peace Athena... what has this world come to? May you and your baby fly high. My condolences go out to your loved ones.'
Another friend posted: 'May you rest in peace Athena with your family... my sincerest sympathies are with your family and friends who will all feel the impact of your loss.'
Another wrote: 'R.I.P Tina I'm lost for words how the f*** can someone [allegedly] just kill someone?'
Investigators are examining if graffiti scrawled outside the property - including the phrases 'U R Gay,' 'Enough is Enough,' 'Betrayal,' and 'Karma' - is linked to the horror inside.
The messages were sprayed in luminous yellow-green and black paint on the home's fence and exterior walls.
Detective Inspector Dean Thomas from the Homicide Squad said police received several calls regarding the incident at the address prior to the grim discovery.
'Police were called at about 9.20pm in relation to a welfare check at the address based on some yelling that was heard from the property,' he said.
'A second call was then made that suggested it was perhaps more urgent than the first call and police arrived minutes later, and obviously they found the male and female inside the premises deceased.'
A Victoria Police spokesperson confirmed investigators were probing the graffiti.
'Police are aware of graffiti on the property in Mount Waverley where the bodies of two people were located last night,' the spokesperson said.
'Homicide Squad detectives will work to determine if the graffiti is relevant to the murder investigation.'
Det Insp Thomas said heavily armed specialist officers, assisted by the police helicopter, tracked the arrested man to the station, where he was taken into custody.
'The person that we took into custody was in the company of two large dogs, I think that would look fairly obvious to people who may have been in the area,' he added.

Cecilia tries to conceal the issue by claiming that the inmate died while trying to escape the prison. Meanwhile, Amparo is furious that Zarda was not able to protect her, upset that she had to protect herself. She threatens Zarda, which makes the latter promise to make the guilty person pay. Zarda tells Victoria that she is sure Maria was after this. At lunch, Marina joins the five, but Gladys leaves the table. Soledad, Yael and Olga wonder what's happened, and Marina explains that Gladys is mad at her. Olga starts to doubt Marina, too, when Maria is asked to meet Cecilia. The Episode Review So, Zurda and Maria were friends before all this? No wonder Cecilia tried to cause differences between them; both of them were too much for her to handle as a team. It seems that Marina had a poor excuse for parents and had to work hard throughout her life. Even from prison, Marina is earning an income by selling her body on the internet, which makes me feel sorry for her. It's hard to see Gladys find out about her possible cancer diagnosis, but I am glad she has Yael in her journey. Given the fact that she has had a hard time coping with the loss of her husband, I hope Gladys continues to keep the bond that she has with the other four inmates. It was sad to see Maria die, but Amparo is a bigger threat to everyone inside now. I really wish she hadn't been caught because things would have been so different inside the prison. Gladys would be the best replacement for Maria now that she is dead but I am not sure how open she would be to stepping into her shoes, given the diagnosis. Former pastor convicted of abusing woman and children over 23 years
A former pastor with the Free Church of Scotland (Continuing) is behind bars after being convicted of the serial abuse of a woman and eight children over a 23-year period. The Rev James Haram, 51, was found guilty of 19 charges of physical and sexual abuse, with a judge branding his victims' ordeals as 'truly awful'. The crimes, which included the rape of the woman, took place between 1997 and 2020 at addresses in Glasgow, Dumbarton, West Dunbartonshire and South Ayrshire. Haram subjected the woman, whose identity is protected, to a campaign of abuse The High Court in Glasgow heard testimony detailing Haram's catalogue of abuse. However, he did admit to 'occasional flare-ups of aggression'. The court was told Haram conducted 'modesty checks' on young girls and violent beatings with a wooden spoon or a rod. John Macpherson, prosecuting, highlighted one girl's 'graphic account of some savagery' and being regularly beaten by Haram, an account which the pastor said was 'wholly fabricated'. In one incident, Haram allegedly flew into a rage while in a car with two children, threatening to deliberately crash and kill them all. He told the trial: 'They knew I did not mean it.' In a final act of defiance, Haram clutched a Bible as he was led to the cells. Judge Tom Hughes told Haram that the jury had heard deeply distressing evidence and that the 'extremely serious offences' would 'obviously carry a lengthy custodial sentence'. Sentencing has been deferred until September for reports, but Haram has been remanded in custody.

Teen killer finally confesses to murdering sister-in-law and nephews, 1 and 4, after leaving chilling letter
A New Hampshire teen confessed to murdering his sister-in-law and two young nephews weeks after penning a chilling letter that read, 'I do not belong in this family'. Eric Sweeney, 19, fatally shot Kassandra Sweeney, 25, and her sons, Benjamin, four, and Mason, one, while living at their Northfield home. He shot his victims execution style with a bullet to the head using his older brother's gun. Sweeney initially faced first-degree murder charges and was scheduled to go on trial in September, however accepted a plea deal, admitting guilt to three counts of second-degree murder and one count of falsifying physical evidence. In June 2022, just two months before the brutal killings, Sweeney took the family's truck and left behind a harrowing note. 'I do not belong in this family. All I do is steal and lie and be irresponsible,' the note read in part, ending with, 'I love you big bro and sis bye.' Prosecutors cited the message as an early indication of emotional instability and growing conflict in the home. Kassandra and her husband, Sean Sweeney, were acting as Eric's guardians and struggled to manage his behavioral issues, which included lying, stealing, and breaking household rules, Assistant Attorney General Bethany Durand said during the Friday hearing. Police were called to the home twice, once after the stolen truck incident, and again less than two weeks before the fatal shootings, when the couple reported that Sweeney was making 'strange statements'. 'The situation had deteriorated to the extent that Sean installed a lock on the door of the master bedroom in order to keep the defendant out of that room,' Durand told Merrimack County Superior Court. On the morning of the killings, prosecutors said Kassandra had been recording and sending video clips to her husband of the boys playing and laughing, but just moments later, she and the children were dead. In one clip, the toddler giggles as a family dog plays with the tail of his brother's dinosaur costume. In another, both children wave at a groundhog outside the window, saying 'Hi, Dada' to the camera. 'The family was having a normal morning, with the boys playing and laughing with Kassandra while helping her to create video clips to send to their dad,' Durand said. 'There was no indication of any unknown person, intruder or danger inside of their home.' Family members sat quietly during the hearing, some wiping away tears (pictured), neither they nor attorneys for either side gave statements after court adjourned Sweeney initially told police he had been in his basement bedroom when he heard something break upstairs, followed by a man yelling and several loud 'pops'. He claimed he went upstairs and discovered the victims on the floor, took Kassandra's phone and car keys, and left the house. He later called his brother, who contacted law enforcement, NBC10 reported. Kassandra and Mason were found in the dining room, while Benjamin was discovered in the kitchen, each had been shot once in the head. Prosecutors said Sweeney used his brother's handgun, which had been kept in a locked safe under the couple's bed. Family members sat quietly, some seen wiping away tears during the emotional hearing Friday. Sweeney will be sentenced on October 3 where he faces 35 years to life in prison for each second-degree murder charge.
