Tunisia: Head of State calls for enforcing Law on all banks in meeting with BCT governor
Tunis: President Kais Saied called for enforcing the law on all banks and addressing any violations, regardless of the institution involved. He also reiterated that the Financial Analysis Committee must effectively carry out its responsibilities.
During a meeting on Friday morning at Carthage Palace with Governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT), Fethi Zouhair Nouri, the Head of State stressed that "the law of the state must apply to everyone."
He further stated, "What is happening today is unacceptable and cannot go unpunished. While interest rates are being reduced, the principal debt is being simultaneously increased."
The President also called for reviewing the BCT's legal framework so as to enhance its ability to address financial challenges and better support the national economy.
The meeting also shed light on various economic indicators, including the inflation rate, which remained below 5.7%. The President noted that "without national policy measures, this rate could have been much higher."
Additionally, the Head of State urged the Financial Analysis Committee to fulfill its duties effectively, pointing out that its current actions have been insufficient and have not yielded the desired results, particularly concerning numerous suspicious sources of funding that fall outside the legal framework.

Tunis - President Kais Saied met on Monday afternoon at the Carthage Palace, Prime Minister Sara Zaafrani Zenzri. Dring the meeting, the Head of State stressed that Tunisia needs not only new legislation but also individuals who will faithfully ensure its implementation. "A legislative revolution cannot be achieved without a revolution in the management of public facilities," he was quoted as saying in a Presidency statement. In this context, the President of the Republic emphasised that many public facilities are not being managed properly. He underscored that the Tunisian state is one, not two, one visible and another often described as hidden. In reality, this so-called "hidden" state is a system composed of remnants and reactionary factions whose only aim is to inflame tensions and oppress citizens. There is no room for such entities to remain unaccountable, as required by the law. The Head of State clarified that the Tunisian Constitution stipulates that public administration and all state facilities must serve citizens with neutrality and accountability, and that any discrimination based on affiliation is a crime punishable by law. On another note, the President of the Republic emphasised the need for a comprehensive national approach to all issues under discussion. Sectoral approaches may provide solutions for one or two sectors but will not lead to collective resolutions. Tunisia calls for redefining development priorities in Arab world, boosting inter-Arab trade
Tunis - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti, headed the Tunisian delegation participating in the 5th Arab Economic and Social Development Summit held in Baghdad on Saturday. He delivered a speech on behalf of President Kais Saied, emphasising Tunisia's commitment to addressing development challenges as the most effective means to counter security and social threats. According to a Foreign Ministry statement, Tunisia called for redefining development priorities in the Arab world through a shared, innovative vision centered on the Arab citizen and aimed at meeting their economic and social needs. It stressed the need to bridge developmental, knowledge, and technological gaps among Arab nations and boost intra-Arab trade, which remains below potential at just 13% of total Arab foreign trade. Tunisia also underscored the importance of developing effective strategies to enhance food security, mitigate water scarcity, and address environmental risks. It also urged support for infrastructure, transport, electricity, and smart city projects, alongside advancing the Greater Arab Free Trade Area and transitioning to an Arab Customs Union to strengthen national economies. Highlighting the importance of reform, governance, and equitable wealth distribution, Tunisia asserted that true development requires social justice, including economic empowerment and social protection for vulnerable groups. The country reaffirmed its commitment to regional programmes for women's economic and social empowerment, enhancing women's participation in labour markets and decision-making and creating legislative environments that promote equality. Tunisia also said it was looking forward to active Arab participation in the preparatory regional meeting for the 2nd World Summit for Social Development, hosted in Tunis on June 30 and July 1, 2025. It pledged support for initiatives serving Arab peoples' interests and called for stronger partnerships between Arab states and regional/international blocs. It urged the practical implementation of summit recommendations to ensure tangible progress. Saudi: Hail airport set for expansion to accommodate 2.2mln passengers a year
HAIL — The Ministry of Transport and Logistics is working to expand Hail International Airport with increasing its capacity to more than 2.2 million passengers annually. This is part of a comprehensive development project aimed at developing air transport infrastructure in the northern part of Saudi Arabia and enhancing the efficiency of vital facilities in the region. This was revealed by Director General of the General Administration of Privatization at the Ministry of Transport and Logistics Eng. Saud Al-Arifi while attending a dialogue session titled "Investment opportunities in the transport and logistics sector" at the Hail Forum. He said that the project represents a key pillar of the ministry's plan to transform Hail into an integrated logistics center. Al-Arifi said that the ministry, in cooperation with the Hail Region Development Authority, is also working on a massive logistics center project spanning an area exceeding 374,000 square meters. This project aims to serve supply chains and facilitate the movement of goods between various Saudi regions, he said. Work is underway on a roadside services development project to provide integrated facilities that meet the needs of travelers and support the safety and efficiency of regional roads. These projects are in line with Hail's geographical position as a central hub connecting the north, center, and west, enhancing its ability to play a pivotal role in the future of transportation and logistics services in the Kingdom. It is noteworthy that Hail International Airport is only 60 minutes away from 11 Arab capitals and 200 minutes away from Central Europe.
